Even though there is no law against parents giving BAD advice, I think these 2 should spend time in jail. Not only did they do wrong for their own son, but for his passengers as well. Sad..........

I think that they deserved jail time for covering up their son's actions. A young beautiful life was yanked away. This girl will never have the chance to get married or have children nor will her parents have the opportunity to walk their daughter down the aisle or enjoy their grandchildren. Evil walks amongst us..

Disgusting! And don't tell me that I would do the same thing if I were in their shoes. This is about accountability, something that is becoming a rarity in our self centered, selfish society. These people need to get a conscience. They sound like a couple of real gems.

Don't tell me that if you were in the place of these parents your first instinct would be to give up your own child to the authorities to help out a complete stranger. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with what these parents did to protect their son, but let's face it, we live in an unfair world where sometimes people do bad things to cover up other bad things. The world isn't nice. My sympathies to the parents of the girl who died. There are no winners in the case...

Agreed, a tragedy all around. Online reporting indicated the victim as well as all of the occupants of the vehicle were drinking alcohol that night, Anyone know why all 3 passengers of the vehicle were not charged with the same crime? Why is the drivers ex girlfriend the only one being hung out to dry?

This is the mentality that has ruined this society...especially Long Island. Me first and F everyone else. What great example this sets for kids. And they dragged other peoples kids into this whole scheme after the fact. What a nice lesson.

While we as parents have a storng instinct to protect our children, those of us with intelligence and a moral backbone feel its much more important to bring our children up as good, moral people who will have a postize impact on our planet and society. By raising their child not to be responsible for his actions, they have raised a self centered kid, and their actions were reprehensible. He panicked in the moment of truth, and left a girl to die on the side of the road - he had no idea whether going back would save her or not. They opted to cover up this despicable choice. They deserved more than a minimal fine - 1 year or weekend incarceration sounds right.

These parents should have been given jail time and mandatory parenting classes! They obviously don't know how to instill good moral values in their kid. They also messed with the minds of the passengers in the car by trying to convince them that it was OK and everybody does it and UConn won't investigate because of publicity! What total BS. They should go to jail.
