The state collects the revenue which exceeds the cost of enforcement, and the cash registers rang loudly like the exhaust pipes of the air cooled bikes.

Sounds like everyone had a good time while they were in M.B. Relaxation, a little spending, and the multiplier effect were in play-along with the people.

Hard rock got opened and is busy. Market Commons got opened and is busy. Neat stuff to upgrade the community.

So, a lot less people this year and a lot more tickets. Looks like the city wants to raise revenues!

1999 should be the citation cap for next week's rally to make the NAACP happy.

Give it a rest. Out of some 900,000 visitors 2000 citations is less than 1%. Use your math brain and see that on average everyone behaved well, are supposed to ride the white line, and spent money having fun. If you prefer, you could lead a petition for a ballot vote giving you firm control so that no one ever can come here without expressed, writted permission from you. This, however, may ruin some economic things in your life. But you will be O.K. because you get to decide Blobs Park.

900,000? Even by the news they said there were, at best, 250,000 here. It is still less than 1% but not sure where you got 900,000.

It's 1.25 percent but what's the point of bringing that up? Those were the only ones who got caught. I observed hundreds speeding, weaving in and out of slow and fast moving and stopped traffic, running red lights, etc. Probably 10,000 more didn't get caught.
On any day I see people in cars (and bikes) speeding, swerving, running lights and stop signs, loud stereos and exhausts, you name it, and they don't get caught. I'll bet there are less than 1% of infractions caught on any given day. So, what is YOUR point?

Shouldn't the headline read that citations were up 161%!!!!! That's a huge increase. Thanks for to LE for helping to keep us safe - and for raising some revenue that will help pay for gobs of overtime that they put in.

I have to ask... Blobs Park, do you live here or were you just visiting? I have been here for around 10 years now and to be honest, during the off season I see just as many cars driving recklessly than I do motorcycles.

I agree with the guy posting from Pawleys Island, I hear truck that have exhausts that would blow my bike away. Also, they are racing down the road, running through the yellow/red lights. So, it is just isn't the motorcyclists that cause problems.

Got your money anyway didn't you. If the rally was down, you had to make money some way. That is real good PR!!!

The cops use this event as their own shark feeding frenzy. It's no secret, just be aware that they're looking for violators and drive reasonably.

I'm actually glad to see that citations were up. I have seen the police presence over the last several years, but also witnessed flagrant disregard of laws because it seemed that LE wasn't really there for more than traffic control. This year they obviously earned their pay. Every day last week I heard, actually heard myself, not heard about, at least one ambulance a day. That is ridiculous, regardless of whether it was for bikers or cars.

I actually meant to type 200,000 but was a little too quick on the draw for the keyboard.

Sure there are more violators than caught.

The POINT is money was spent, people had a good time, the city and the community benefited, we have Market Commons and a new amusement park, and frankly, it was a good time for all involved. Love to see that economic multiplier effect in action. Note that in some places in America, life is pretty grim. We are fortunate so many want to come and relax in Cancun North of the Border.

Cheer up. I was weary of it after a week, but am glad to see people working, the police busy, the malls packed, and so on and so forth. Would you prefer $4 dollar gas? Oh wait, we already have that and still people came.:)

Guess what? Most of the "cops" would rather be home with thier families or off doing thier own riding and partying, but if being out there and writing a bunch of tickets to VIOLATORS will save lives (which is proven), then by all means keep it up guys. Semper Fi, Craig, but you are off on the "feeding frenzy" remark.
