Mr. Peterson, they tried to "fix" the flag "problem" in Columbia eight years ago. Everyone agreed to place it where it is. Now the NAACP has decided they may have made a mistake in 2000, and are picking up the fight again. Some people are never happy.

Recently I shared my thoughts with the mayor of Myrtle Beach concerning "take back may."
Mayor Rhodes,
I am writing in regards to the political group "Take Back May" that seeks to eliminate the motorcycle rallies from Myrtle Beach. I understand you are at the forefront of this movement. I am writing from an ocean front room in the M Grande. I have with me my family as this is, or at least has been our yearly vacation destination for decades. I also am a professional educator of 17 years, a devout christian and in my estimation a good person of character. I am also a motorcycle enthusiast. I must let you know that I take issue with your group's policy and practices. I visited your website and looked at your obviously slanted statistics. The only way to validate crime statistics for a given time is to relate them to actual number of tourists in town. I also found the income data difficult to believe as when I have attended the May event, I have had difficulty acquiring accomodations. Given that fact, I find the data quite suspect. Regardless, I must inform you that this is the last year my family will vacation at Myrtle Beach. There are plenty of motorcycle friendly resort areas up and down the coast and I refuse to support a small minded and obviously biased community. I also intend to spread the word to other motorcycle enthusiasts through my affiliation with various groups including the AMA and Christian Bikers Association. Your stance that losing the bikers in May will have no significant consequence on your income may come back to haunt you. I do wonder if you and your group are actually aware of the demographics of the average motorcyclist that visits during May. In conclusion, please allow me to express my deep sadness that Myrtle Beach has decided to become an unfriendly and closed community. I seriously doubt you will ever become the upscale, exclusive, snobby place you seem to envision.

We are sorry to be losing you.
I'm a local, so I'm not going anywhere. I will continue to ride my Harley, year round, for transportation, and for pleasure.

Before you totally make up your mind, I ask you to reconsider. You can still vacation down here, but spend all, or a majority of your money OUTSIDE of the Myrtle Beach City Limits. Horry County is a big place. I can assure you that Horry County doesn't want to associate themselves with these idiots that are running Myrtle Beach.
Thank God, and thank my wisdom for being smart enough to buy a home OUTSIDE of Myrtle Beach City Limits!!!
