Two Bikers Killed in Separate Beach Crashes

I saw a guy flip his bike 4 times Friday night in front of my motel room for showing his azz on Ocean Blvd.Still had the paper tag on his 11,000.00 crotch rocket. He was drunk and the MBPD let him walk back to his room.
80% of people get killed from motorist making a left in front of them and the other 20% is because of alcohol. |

People get to comfortable on bikes. My father always told me, the minute you stop fearing your bike, it's time to park it! You have to be scared of it to ride it without killing yourself. I always took that advise and drove like I had sence. However, It's not always driver error. People don't have ANY respect for bikes.

Love them. Grew up with them, owned several. Got old and started thinking twice about them. It's an individual choice. I could never figure out how to get the windows to roll up.

The bike is the boss, the moment you think other wise the bike will teach you.
There are only 2 kinds of bikers, those that have gone down and those that will. If you see someone wearing shorts and flipflop that is someone that will go down. Their legs will never look the same. No shirt means no skin on the back.(major pain) If anyone doubts me,I have the scares to prove it. |

If my father hadn't recently passed away, I would have asked if you were him. I swear, I've heard him say the same things you have so many times it's unreal. Knowledge is the first step and if people would read what you've wrote, they might be safer riders! |

Well put. I would rather buy some new boots, replace some pants or a good leather jacket or vest anytime than get some body parts ground off or just plumb chewed up. A good pair of heavy gloves helps. Some people just don’t understand that all that leather wasn’t “just” about the look.(LOL… of course just a little bit was, nothing wrong with a little bit of style). A good set of shades helps. A good pair for daylight and another lighter pair for night. Catching a bug in the eye is a heck of a distraction. I always though the opening scene in Men in Black 1 illustrated the effect perfectly. Splat… |

Bike week usually ends with numerous fatalities. Bikers tend to drink and ride and have an attitude that they own the road. But, then again, other drivers tend to think they own the road as well...I got news, a 4000lb car owns more road..just like a 80000lb truck owns even more road. Don't tell me that even when a biker is riding safely and with the proper attire, that the other driver respects him. Some will - some will not... Even truckers will dog bikers at times...

Bike Week puts a lot of traffic on the road period. It just jacks up the odds of something happening. No news here. Show me a biker who thinks he "owns" the road and I'd say he or she is in for a rude awakening. Most bikers realize exactly the size thing (Ever pull up next to an 18 Wheeler on the Road? That's seeing the real thing, right up close like). Most bikers understand that to other vehicles they are invisible. If something comes up, you got a split nano second to make some real serious decisions. Make the right call and you survive, if you don't.... I drive 26 to work and back 5 days a week, people out there don't see cars or trucks, between just spacing out or being on a cell phone they will run over anything. I knew an old biker who used to keep a lead pipe in his saddle bag and was not below taking out a head light on a truck or car that was riding his behind too close. Dog the wrong biker and get bit. It can get crazy out there either way. |

I love to ride. But, in SC sad to say, they will hit you and leave you. Not only that some will hit you, back up, run over you then leave you. They do not want to get caught without a license or insurance. Even with the high beam on, people do not see a MC (no matter what make) and might yell out they are sorry as they drive off. Riding with anyone that drinks will jeapordize the entire group. It is 100% you will get injured putting one down. It is a matter of how bad you are hurt or if you are killed.

My cousin had to lay his down last year when a car turned in front of him. He walked away with just a little bit of road rash thanks to reinforced jeans and leather vest and boots. He said some of his buddies make fun of him for wearing all that, but they weren't laughing when he walked away from that. |

I was at the Rally this weekend, and I would think that the smartest thing Myrtle Beach could do is to limit automobile traffic on Ocean Blvd. that week. Bikers are there to see, be seen and to have a good time. Novice auto traffic is what causes the majority of the accidents. Bikers try their best to be courteous to other bikers and on the average very cautious as most have quite a bit invested in their bikes. If other people want to watch the activities (which is a lot of fun), they need to get out of their cars and walk to Ocean Blvd. You would think that during a motorcycle rally, auto. drivers would be looking out for a motorcycle! Most seem oblivious!

Limit the auto traffic on Ocean Blvd.! I was there this past weekend. For the majority, bikers are there to see, be seen, and have a good time (oh, and did I mention spend a lot of money)! Yes some have too good a time, but for the most part bikers are courteous and cautious of each other. Novice auto traffic in a congested area is just an accident waiting to happen. How can you not be looking out for a motorcycle during Harley Bike Week at Myrtle Beach! Please.....if you want to watch (which is a lot of fun), park your car and walk! And if you don't like Bikers, pick another week. Bike Week is a tradition - please don't ruin it for us!

I have been riding for over 30 years and I find that more times than not it is you cagers that don't look and pull out in front of bikes. You tail gate me on the freeway and change lanes while talking on your cell phones without looking to see that I am there. When you tailgate me I will drop rocks out of my pocket and when you change lanes on me I will kick your door. I will take what ever means to protect myself from you cagers. There are fool bikers out there but they are out numbered by careless stupid cagers that don't take the time to look. The life that you are putting in danger is mine and I take offence to that. |

So thats who was knocking on my car door the other day. LOL It is so hard to sit back and watch how the cars around here get up on the back end of a bike or go around it on the shoulder (yes I have witnessed that). We have signs posted on our driveways around here where the bikers live warning people to watch for them on the road and making turns into that particular driveway. I honestly tend to give the bikers more respect on the road than a car. WHY? Because if they do lay down their bikes for some reason I will not be the one rolling over them. People in cars should realize that a person on a motorcycle is just as vulnerable as someone on a bicycle. They are completely exposed and have very little chance of not getting hurt or killed when struck. By the way I like the throwing rocks out your pocket thing. Maybe it will work from a car. |

It is a funny thing but the time the 3rd rock is dropped people will back off. Might be the cracks in the windshield or the steam coming from the radiator that does it. Plus I like to grab the front brakes for no good reason but to watch people jam on their brakes and go all over the road thinking that I am making quick stop. But that's nothing to what my brother has done. He has gone down the road punching a trucks window trying to get the guy to pull over after he pulled out in front of my brother. That fellow will think twice next time pulling out in front of a bike. |
