1 As a recipient of a Pataskala Police speeding ticket, I beg to differ. |

1 Quit your whining. If I'm not mistaken a Las Margaritas is in the works to be built on 310 right by where that new nursing home is. As for the police, we need to start funding the police department. Pataskala is a rapidly growing city and officers are in-demand. If you recall, last year Pataskala was the location for one of the largest drug busts in the state of Ohio's history. Latest figures put Pataskala towards the top of crime/resident ratio in the state. I guarantee you that the minute we lose our police force, that will become the focal point of the complainers in Pataskala. |

1 Aaron: Do your homework! The Licking County Director of Development wrote a "Letter to the Editor" in the Pataskala Post and talked about the Outback Restaurant. As I mentioned, they were interested UNTIL the economy took a nosedive. This has affected just about all of the restaurant chains. As I said, they have a bottom line figure that they need to reach on a daily basis, to be considered successful. The question is: is Pataskala ready for a chain such as those identified? I don't know. But let's get back to the original comment. "Open more restaurants" may help the Police Dept. I asked, where and how do you arrive at that? I explained how the Police Dept gets their funding. You've yet to answer! |

I am sorry to hear of this change, only the chief knows what is best for the department and the city during these hard times. The thing I do know is that Gahanna has half the land mass to cover with twice the funding to pay their department due to their city income tax for those that have earned income. It does not effect unemployed or retirees whatsoever. This has allowed the town to grow and prosper and become one of the top 100 places to live. The Pataskala department has fewer officers, twice the land to cover, crime coming in from Columbus and Newark and there is still mud slinging? Please , Pataskala is a great town that has the flavor of rural farm land encrouched by bigger cities. I really don't understand why Pataskala is one of two cities in Ohio that still does not have a tax on income to cover these expenses? Surely the residents are not being mean spirited and stubborn to prove a point? Real estate tax is not fair because it causes everyone under all circumstances to pay higher tax whether retired, unemployed, illness or lack of job opportunities, that will only further the dilemna. Please great people of Pataskala save your wonderful town. Look back, look forward, look around.

1 I understand one story going around was the Mayor kept Roosters out of town. I now know that the Mayor contacted Roosters about this false story to ensure the city hadn't somehow dropped the ball. The answer the Mayor got back from the President of Roosters was that they were not looking at Pataskala and if they did thet would cerainly contact him. It's not hard to do even a little bit of research before spreading lies and half truths but heck what fun is that and how would it help your agenda? Unlike you the chains do the research first before nvesting a penny and even then some fail because the market just doesn't support them. Do you think it means anything that Max & Erma's just filed for Chapter 11 and that all trends show a decline in most dining out options? I find it strange that someone would suggest that the Mayor could keep out a chain and again the Village of Granville tried and failed to keep Bob Evans out. Bob Evans fought and beat Granville because Bob Evans knew they could make money in Granville from the "RESEARCH" they did. Lastly, do you think that trends in central Ohio like Delware has lost its only multi-screen theater, or that Johnstown just closed a Bowling Alley, or all the empty store fronts around Central Ohio mean anything? I am sure that when the chains know that they can make a dime in Pataskala they will build and we can all read your complaints on this Blog about that as well. |

Aaron, all the restaurants you mentioned locate either right off a major freeway or go into an extremely busy shopping mall that picks up alot of traffic. If that were the case on Broad St in Pataskala, they would need twice the police they currently have to cover the potential robberies. Just vote an income tax to grow the city, protect it, improve it with the income, then built it and "yes, they will come"...eventually. We have never known a small mom & pop restaurant that wasn't overpriced (they have to be to keep up with the expenses) but the Nutcracker has good food and it is clean and the people are nice there too. |
