Spoken like a true hero. Now here is an unselfish person who has the best interest of his city at heart. I'm sure some idiots will find some way to twist his motives.

Why not just eliminate the deputy chief's job right now and you won't need to spend the additional $58,000?

By hero, I mean that he is offering to take $58k along with full retirement benefits (which the city will be paying for a long time) while he works another job making additional salary.

If I could quit my job today, get full retirement, plus an additoinal $58k.... I would find this hard for anyone to turn down.

If he forfeited his pension (keep in mind that most citizens do not get a pension when they retire) or at least the remaining $58k, this would be a little more heroic and prove that he is trying to save the other jobs in the police department.

I wouldn't matter whether here retired now or in six years, Forshey will get his pension, the FOP will make sure of that. Plus the deputy chief makes less money, so leaving early can start the salary cycle at the bottom again.

I think Ohio is going to see more small town P.D.'s cutting their budgets and trimming back on pay raises, at least until the job market improves.

Roger, of course you wouldn't be one of the idiots twisting his motives now would you. I'm also sure you would forfeit your pension if you had one for the good of the community---------- SURE YOU WOULD

Your dept. acts like the Highway Patrol of this state. I always thought the Police were to protect and serve the community. If people would take your officers of of a pestal and realize you get paid to do your job,and I do not want to hear how dangerous it is no one forces you to do it.

I can't believe that anyone would believe that this guy is doing this for any other reason than it would benefit him. He'll get to retire early and still draw the full benefit pension. If anyone offered this to me I'd be gone in an instant. Also, I doubt he'll need to pick up an additional job to cover his "losses".

Maybe the cops should actually pull someone over in Pataskala and try getting some funding that way??? I have lived there three years now and have yet to see one person pull over inside the city. Dear PPD, Write some tickets instead of sleeping in your cruiser out on Mink Rd.! Yes, I saw you!

I live in Columbus, and I wish the police would do something other than issue tickets. That is all they do is chase tailights.

Sounds like a great idea, get a buyout, retire, then find another full time job. Looks like a good deal to me! Oh, that's exactly what I did at 50 years old. Isn't America great!

Quit whinning about the Chief retiring, he deserves whatever he can get out of the city.

Let's say he retires, they still need to hire a chief right? Even if he retires, I'm sure he will work at another law enforcement agency and collect his pension at the same time. That is called DOUBLE DIPPIING.

You guys act like he's wrong to try and get whatever he can get. So what if a plan is mutually beneficial to himself AND to the PD. Neither side would agree if it was just a loss for them both. If someone lets you have an opportunity to retire early and get your pension why shouldn't you take it? Wouldn't any of you take it?

I read some of these posts and they're humorous for the writers have no clue as to what's been happening in our little bedroom community.

There are a select few "naysayers" who feel that their only mission in life is to try to disparage the Pataskala Police Dept in any way that they can. It takes a toll on folks after a while. Does it mean they win? No, it means, they'll have a new target now, the Deputy Police Chief.

Currently, the Police Dept relies on a tax levy for funding purposes. That levy is due to expire at the end of this year (and collections stop at the end of next year). Unless something is done soon, there's going to be serious problems with respect to funding this department.

What Forshey is offering isn't such a bad idea. Buy out his service for $58,000 and promote the Deputy Police Chief to Chief. Eliminating the Deputy Chief's position would save our town some moeny in the long run.

As for "double dipping", tell me how it affects you? Are you directly affected? MANY public servants DO this. Look at Columbus School district (let alone, any other school district) and you'll see NUMEROUS educators who are doing the double dipping.

Best wishes Forshey, whichever way you decide to go.

Maybe if we got a real resturant here in pataskala it could bring in some tax revunue, anything would be better then what we have. Oh the mayor owns the nutcracker hmmmmm maybe thats why we dont get any other resturants here in town, what does everyone else think??? Maybe a chain resturant would bring in some tax money for the police dept...

Talk about being out of touch, don't speed on the freeway in Columbus. other than that; the street cops are always responding to calls for service. Chasing tail lights, really??? Over one million calls for service each year by 900 officers, and they are out chasing tail lights, who's taking the calls then??? Talk about being out of touch!!!!

Aaron: perhaps you aren't aware... but the Mayor has spoken to other interested parties who were looking to open a chain restaurant here in Pataskala. The Mayor was speaking to representatives from the Outback Restaurant. They were introduced to him by the Director of Development for Licking County. The irony is: the Mayor didn't know who these people were or whom they represented. He ENCOURAGED them to consider the Western Licking County area to open a business. He didn't know what type of business they were planning to venture. To me, it goes to show the class that he has. It only shows that you obviously haven't done your homework prior to posting this comment.

As for chain restaurants, not too many of the "better" dining establishments such as TGI Friday's, Applebees, or O'Charley's would be interested in opening here because we, as a community, would not be able to meet their expected sales projection that each restaurant is required to meet.

One more thing Aaron: perhaps you can explain to me, how the number of restaurants would impact the funding for the local police dept? The Police Dept doesn't get any of the sales tax generated and considering that we don't have an income tax here in Pataskala, they don't get any funding from that either. Most other police departments do get their funding from a city income tax. Do your homework Aaron and come up with something more sensible.

Hey gordon first u talk about the outback being a good fit, then u say we cant support a chain resturant..Where do u get your figures? I think we could support a good chain resturant....We still continue to have a over priced family resturant in pataskala owned by the highest elected official in our city, i think we need to bring in a chain resturant.....Gordon have u spoken to these chains????
