Full story: San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Under a new state law, parents and guardians of Los Angeles Unified students convicted of gang-related crimes will have to attend parenting classes and meet with families who have been victimized by gang violence, the bill's author said Friday.

I think this is awesome. Although I do agree you cannot watch your children 24/7, you can always tell if they are into gangs and stuff. Help them out before someone helps them out of their life.. Come on parents, start taking responsibility for what you brought into this world. They are yours, not anyone elses.... Don't you want your ids to grow up and do better than you in life? I know I do, and I am not a gang member nor have ever been affiliated with them.

There's an old saying that says when you do time, your family does time as well. Maybe it's time to put some realism in to that saying.

Parents, of those under 18 should be held responsible for the actions of their children - at a minimum pay restitution, court costs, etc. Hit them in the pocket book and they will be better aware of their children.
IF the kids continue to be idiots, charge them as an adult and throw them in jail/prison. At least they will be kept on their toes there and ensure they don't drop the soap in the shower room.

I think its a great idea, although it starts with your upbringing at home. I feel that the parents of today dont give a dam about what there childern do.Lets analize this problem from the start...first of all look at what we see on television nothing but violence and sexual content...second look at the volience we teach our kids threw the music we hear everyday ...and third RESPECT is no longer a word to our younger generation. How the hell are we going to solve this problem when things like this start with what we see, hear, and do.IF we want to hold parents and guardins responsable for the actions of there childern thats fine but also take note that our society has a big part in thi also.

Like gun control, it's a pie-in-the-sky fantasy which is good in concept, but impossible in execution. So what happens when the parents ignore the program and don't attend the classes, etc.? Arrest warrants? That won't be served? A good idea, but I don't give it much chance of success. I hope I'm proven wrong.

People like you cry that nothing is done ,now you cry when something is tried . You comeup with a realistic idia , not just "throw everyone in jail and/or deport everybody" .

Hate to inform you, these gangsters for the most part are not children of illegals. So unless you want to deport all latin people back to their country of origin,(and you probably do) That is unrealistic,
This law is a step in the right direction, It won't work in many cases, but it's a start.

Hi my name is John and my son is a gang member. Please help me California Assemblypersons. You can't figure out how to stop this state from financially crashing into the ocean, but you can teach me to be a better parent.
I want to propose another bill. The Government Accountability Act. Every person who is in government take therapy classes and take education class to realize they are authoritarian sociopaths and what they do is immoral in most cases. They couldn't possibly represent everyone under their "jurisdiction." Everyone just wants to be left alone. No one wants someone else's will forced on them and to have their hard earned money extorted from them. We would all do just fine on a voluntary basis without a group who has a monopoly of coercive force.
