Full story: Chicago Tribune

If this were a movie, nobody would believe it: A rancher struggling to eke out a living in one of the poorest corners of America claimed one of the biggest undivided jackpots in U.S. lottery history Friday - $232 million - after buying the ticket in a town by the name of Winner.

What a great story. Got to love a guy who talks to his horse. But I'd advise the neighbor, Dave Assman, to get a name change!

So what is the actual winning,$232 mil or $88 mil ? Who cares if its over 30-35 years. How about $1 Zilion over 1000 years ? Just like your banking, healthcare,...another big BS in the idiotic nation.
That's the way the Powerball works...you can either take the larger amount over the 30 years or one lump sum. By the time the governments take their share, either amount is reduced around 30%. It makes more sense to take the lump sum up front (IMHO) and then invest it as you see fit as opposed to waiting for a check every year.

How about a little piece about the millions of losers in these games, disproportionately poor ... and stooopid?

There has been plenty of press about gambling addiction over the years, focusing on the casinos in the greater Chicago area, the lottery and gambling metropolises such as Vegas and Atlantic City.

There are many a "wealthy" athlete and business person, for example, who will drop millions in a day on their own gambling addictions.

Good for him and his family...it is nice to see someone else win besides a minority, ex-convict, someone who already is rich or someone who doesn't deserve it

Good for him and his family. I agree with Nick. Good thing it isn't a rich person.

So great to read GOOD news for a change! Happy for him and his family ... and especially for his horse, Eleanor!

Great story Sir. You really do seem like the type of person and family that will help out others.

I hope you get to live a long and mostly carefree life now.

Nice story. Just curious, Nick - can you give an example of someone who has won the lottery that 'didn't deserve it'?

Interesting how you lump "minority" and "ex-convict" in the same sentence. It would be fair to say you have some bigotry issues.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Scorpio

Take it slowly today otherwise you'll be almost guaranteed to lose your temper and make yourself very unpopular in the process. If someone is annoying you, you won't need any encouragement to start a row because you're looking for outlets for your current ire and irritation. OK, but do your best to direct your anger at the person who deserves it and not at innocent bystanders.
