I'm sure Mahoning Township would love to classified, in with the sewer pit, under the bridge. Of course with all the low class residents in Weissport, maybe then the township could get some grants. If they were smart, they'd level the place and build their own sewer plant there. The smell wouldn't be any worst, then it is now, and there wouldn't be as much drug dealing, without the park. Tina saying "She said Doucette's work in Weissport has had marked results." Is that the polite way of saying, all he's good for, is giving tickets to people passing through?

Lehighton and Parryville are not involved in the Joint Regional Comprehensive Plan!! LEHIGHTON, considers itself better than all the rest and wants no part of joining in on this plan. However, LEHIGHTON does want to build a hydro-electric plant in Franklin Township, oh yeah, Lehighton has their water in Frnaklin Township and also they had THEIR dump in Franklin Township. Anyway, although Weissport has alot of problems, this could be a start of a cleaning up process. Anything can happen and I applaud Weissport for their efforts.

regionalizing police departments is the only way towns and Boroughs are going to servive due to costs. The only problem is the leaders of these towns will lose their power to control. This is what they have to start thinking about the taxpayer instead of there power trip.

regionalizing would incorporate better grant oppurtunities, better officers, better service to the public, better community relations, and better joint policies to rid of liabilty. The best scenario would be a county force.

Just wait till the Redneck Festival in August. I'm sure that will put Weisport on the map.

Illegal speed trap

No need to worry.....if Douchette is hired as chief in Mahoning he can set up a number of illegal speed traps like he did in Weissport. Lots of money to be made for the Township....untile he is "exposed". If I were anyone charged for speeding there I know I would fight it....... his distances for the lines are WAY too close. I know, I asked several other officers who were kind enough to tell me.

Merging these borough is the only way to go. Reutilize the space for village centers for growing townships, rather than developing additional land.
These tiny borough can not run themselves anymore in PA, because of stagnant real estate base.

The Truth Hurts

You don't have to look very far to see what a well run regional police department can offer. for instance take Colonial Regaional Police (Bath area of Northampton County) and Stroud Area Regional Police (Stroudsburg Area of Monroe County) both of these departments can offer speacialized services meaning they have a Patrol Division, Traffic Division, they have designated Criminal Investigators, Stroud Area has its own SWAT Team.
This is the kind of police protection that should be provided. The times of having one officer on in each town are gone now. I feel if my taxes go up to pay for police coverage then I better be getting the coverage a Regional Police Force will provide.
I know the opponents are going to say well the officers designated for Mahoning will be in Lehighton all noght on incidents. Well my response is what is different fro the way it runs right now. If there is a critical Police incident Franklin, Mahoning, Lehighton and Weissport are all there now anyway. The difference with a Regional Department is: Regionalization will a lot a certain number of officers per shift for each municipality in the regionalization plan, and they will also keep a certain number of officers out of the equation as floaters so to speak, to cover where needed.
We don't have that now. When Mahoning is busy, if Lehighton is busy then its up to the State Police.
