I cannot believe such an article has been printed. This pet was a family member and if they so desired to bury him then why should this family be judged? What gives anyone the right to say how this family's money should have gone towards something else?? And how dare you say that people like Paris Hilton and other celebrities are the reason people spend so much money on their pets!! This family did one of the most loving and caring gestures to say goodbye to their family member and I say kudos to them!! And while I'm on my soapbox: I'll bet anything you tricked this family into thinking you cared about what they were doing, so you interviewed them, took pictures of them while burying their pet, and then you turned this story around to see if you could get more readers!! How dare you decive this family by printing such trash!! You owe them a big apology Chicago Tribune!!!

I personally have 7 "pets" (chihuahuas) and think that whatever amount of money someone wants to spend on their pet is their business. I personally hold two picnics a year to honor our little friends. "$3000 would buy a lot of poor families their groceries" WELLLLLL maybe those poor families need to get off ther behinds and earn a living themselves. Dogs are capable of working for a living. Too many people just want a hand out. That is what America is all about. Freedom to achieve what we want to!
