2 It sucks to be you- a selfish smoker who does not care that other people die so that you can indulge in your filthy addiction. SMOKE OUTSIDE- It does not get any clearer than that- otherwise, I hope that YOUR lungs rot out before you kill another non smoker with your toxic fumes. THERE IS NO RIGHT TO SMOKE INDOORS. It should be illegal all over the country. You smokinhg morns are always asking us to come up with a name of someone that died of second hand smoke- well here is ANOTHER one for you. A real person with family and friends that are needlessly grieving just some some ignorant smoker can smoke indoors. |

2 I really do hope you die from cancer. I hope that it is long, lingering, and painful. You refuse to accept anything that does not fit into your narrow definition of smoking. You killed your mother with your toxic second hand smoke. I have just named two people that second hand smoke killed, including one by your own hands. You could not be any less responsible than if you had taken a gun, pointed it at your mother and then shot her at point blank range. Even your mother's doctor wondered how long she had been smoking. You and your cigarettes robbed your grandchildren of the ability to know their great grandmother and you are so proud of the actions that you took that led to her death. If there is any justice in the world, you will personally feel the effects of a lifetime of smoking. You know, the odds are in favor of COPD. lung cancer, or heart disease doing you in. You already have diabetes. Smoking caused that diabetes you know. Your friends, the cigarettes turned on your mother and now they are turning on you. |

1 You actually think this man was not genetically destined to get cancer? I realize now that SHS claims are rampant, you would rather blame smokers but many people who never smoked contract lung cancer. If smokers can inhale first AND secondhand smoke and live to a ripe old age, it is reaching, at best, to blame SHS. Think about children who are diagnosed with so many forms of cancer. Would you like to blame the smokers as well? You are spreading your intolernace and bigotry,,,nothing more. |

1 This is his history of exposure--from the article: “That was the first one he ever canceled,” said Vernazza, who added:“Norton never smoked in his life.” However, he performed for years in smoke-filled venues. “When I started playing with Norton sometimes we were on the road two or three weeks in a row and all those places were just smoke fests,” Vernazza said.“I quit smoking at that time and I would wake up in the morning coughing. You had to wrap your clothes up in plastic before you put them in your bag.” All so someone could smoke whenever and wherever they wanted. And the stupid, ignorant smokers look at ALL of the cases like this and claim no responsibility. Well, smokers ARE responsible. That is why smoke taxes are so high and why there are bans. We DO NOT want to inhale your crap. PERIOD. END OF STORY. Stupid smokers just do not get it and will not get it until they are drowning in their own fluids from a lifetime of smoking. Then they don't come back. Dry Cow is gone. Her COPD most likely did her in. Al least SHE acknowledged the addiction she was having to deal with. |

1 You are the one who killed her. Remember what the doctor said?????? How long have you been smoking????????? And YOU laughed and called the doctor a FOOL. You ADMITTED that right here on Topix. On more than one occasion. You called the doctor a fool all because YOU did not want to face the horror of having killed your own mother. Name three?????? No. I think I will name just one. Linda's mother may she rest in peace. |

1 This is a very sad story, and I certainly feel very badly for Norton Buffalo, but what people like Time refuse to recognize is that even if one believes wholeheartedly in things like the EPA Report, all that could be said of Norton's death was that there was about an 80% chance it was NOT caused by smoke exposure. The EPA Report claims a lifetime of exposure increases one's chances by 19%, from a base rate of 4 in a thousand to 5 in thousand after 40 years of daily exposure. If Norton Buffalo performed 7 days a week for 8 hours or so a day in smokey nightclubs, the EPA figures would say there's about one chance in five that his death was caused from secondary smoke. That reality doesn't make his death any less sad, but it *is* sad that people like Time are so quick to jump in and distort reality just to play to their desires to control other people. Michael J. 1 According to someone who worked with the man for a long time, he was a "never-smoker". Add to that his living--earned by doing heavy work with his lungs in smoke-filled venues that you whiners can't accept the idea of making smoke-free because THAT'S WHERE HIS TALENT TOOK HIM and certainly not because he chose the smoke--and the nature of his death, and I think the burden of proof is yours, not nonsmokers'. A close friend of my brother used to run a tavern in the Midwest. He never smoked, either. He went to a specialist for respiratory problems and the doctor told him he didn't care how much he was smoking he was going to have to quit or die. Now, if it comforts you to hear the Easter Bunny whispering in your ears about genetic predestiny, go ahead and go there. Just accept the fact that the more rational among us will call you nuts. |

He might not have smoked tobacco, but I bet he smoked tons of weed !

1 Thats because your a stigmatize anti smoker. As I said, you dont know how much weed this guy has ever smoked in his life. Thats pretty much goes right along with the business. Your brothers friend who owned a tavern didnt have an knowledge of air exchangers/exhaust fans.? Was the tavern ever checked for radon gas ? Your just a fear monger stirring up your cohorts.! |

For what ever killed him anyone who had ever heard "Norton Buffalo" play will realize the world lost a real star. From the news story we can't tell what type lung cancer, so it's hard to say what caused it. Due to the fact his lungs were in constant heavy use when he played, and that he played in smoke filled rooms makes the odds of cigarette smoke caused cancer seem highly probable. In any case we hope he is even now playing right along with harp players in rooms with clean air. That he's giving enjoyment to all who get to hear him. >;~)

There is no need to be sorry. And, there is no reason to add to the Easter Bunny into the discussion, either. I don't refute the claims because I smoke and I am in denial. I should have worded myself as it being "possible" that the man was genetically destined but it wouldn't have made much of a difference, would it? Cancer is a very elusive disease. It attacks every part of the body, including the blood. Nature made have made it so that we can never find a cure, in an effort to try and control the population. We don't seem to be doing a good job on our own. |
