Republican States And Voter Suppression

In another topic I meantioned how the republicon states are attempting to make it more difficult for students, minorities, and the elderly to vote. A few of our resident righties disputed this easily researched fact.

Let's be honest about the issue of Voter Identification. The goal is to allow illegals to vote. It has nothing to do with minorities or low income individuals not having the ability to obtain a photo id for voting purposes. This is another attempt to corrupt our ballot box.

I think you'll find that welfare recipients will jump through any hoop, climb any mountain, ride any bus or stand in any line to get free money and food.

My wife has brought home stories from school regarding the intricacies these individuals will navigate to wrench every dime from the government that they can.

Were they to put even half that effort into a job, they'd excel beyond anyone's wildest imaginations.

Since securing an ID to vote doesn't result in more money or food, they will cry "foul" and put no effort into it.

I was asked to show my id the last time I voted. I almost said hell no but didn't; this time, screw it, I will challenge it unless they change the law. This is BS, if you don't have any id you don't vote. I don't care who it effects, tuff, there are plenty of ways to get idenification.

Without ID they can't get a drivers license

They can't go to school

They can't get welfare

They can't get a library card

There are very few people that don't have ID and if they don't they are not smart enough to vote....

Yes voting is a right just like going to school is a right but the government can mandate that to enter school you must have a birth certificate unless you are Latino....

They can also require that you be vaccinated

They can also require that you follow other rules.......

And yes I agree it is almost impossible to prosecute someone for voter fraud as there is no checks and balance for it.....

Someone registers to vote and there is no system to check and see if they are eligible

Someone then votes using that registration and there is no system in place to make sure they are who they claim to be....

So it is very difficult to catch them.....

And showing ID to vote harms nobody......Period........

I thought we wanted a less intrusive government. There's so little voter fraud that it's statistically irrelevant. For those who do committ such fraud there are very stiff penalties. The new purges are bogus, just another way for the fascistic republicons to try to win an election.

Show us evidence of all this voter fraud. Show us how there are no 'checks and balances'. Show us how there is no system to 'check and see if they're eligible'.

Ah, Mexico is such a great example for us. And it isn't just 'showing ID' that's involved. There's the elimination of early voting, of voting on weekends, the cost and time involved with having to get 3 or 4 different ID's from the DMV, Social Security, and so on.

Sure, some folks will go through all of these hoops and circles. But how many legitimate voters will just give up?

Even Romney's advisor says that these stringent qualifications will disenfranchise many voters.

Question-- how many legitimate voters will end up not voting for ever one fraud they prevent? One thousand to one? Ten thousand to one?
