You know when you live in a small town. One person shows up with a gun and the whole town goes into lockdown. I know there must be more to this story, but right now it sounds funny.

Make concealed weapons legal for law abiding citizens and this would never happen!

They are. Go to your Sheriff and get a CCW permit. Colorado is a "shall issue" state, so if you have a clean background, you will get your permit.
I agree that it is a bit rediculous to put the whole town on "lockdown."

Concealed weapons are legal for law-abiding citizens, and it still happened.

I HOPE HIS CAPTURE COMES SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. I MOVED MY FAMILY UP HERE TO GET AWAY FROM THIS. I WAS THERE ONLY A BLOCK AWAY FROM COLUMBINE WHEN THE KILLINGS HAPPENED. THIS IS AN UNFORTUNATE DAY FOR PARACHUTE.

Better safe than sorry-Old Man and WildBill. I live here and work at the high school that was locked down today. This town is very small, and the residents need to be able to stay safe. The town is on alert and people are still going about their business, but with more precautions. Why take the chance?

I am a 911 dispatcher for Garfield County (and happened to be on a day off) when I got a text from my son who was at Grand Valley High School wanting to know about the lock down. Not only was my son involved but my Mom lives just 2 blocks from where this whole incident started. I immediatly turned on my scanner to listen to my coworkers handling this incident and I have to say I work with a very professional group of people. The dispatcher handling the situation remained calm at all times and sounded very professional, never showing her stress over the air. Although I worried for the safety of all the residents of Parachute and the safety of my son at the high school, I felt very secure in hearing a great group of people over the radios, protecting the citizens of Parachute. Lets just hope this guy has clamed down, will be found and no one will be hurt.

So a few people we gunned down in VA, why are the police unnecessarily persecuting another person here and violating his 2nd amendment rights. I sure hope they send Tom Selleck to deal with this.

I live in this town and we are a very small and close community. What would you do if you found out your mother was just a block away and your son was in the school that they put in lock down, from where this was all coming about.... Maybe a whole town lock down isn't such a bad idea.(I'm a 911 dispatcher for the county that this is going on in). I don't think this is so out of line. With the recent influx of Gas exploration people ( and not all of them are bad) but we have seen a huge increase in crimes in the last few years that I definately don't feel like this was uncalled for.

You have to take everything you read with a grain of salt. The news agencies want to catch your attention. It was not as bad as it sounds - the police just urged more caution. There was not a time today when I was worried about my safety because the authorities were taking care of the problem. Hopefully they will find the guy and all will be resolved peacefully.

When they didn't lock down a 2600 acre campus after a shooting everyone was angry that they didn't. now when they lock down Grand Valley H.S. and advise residents to keep doors locked for safety, that is too much. I think advising people to stay safe and be aware is a great move.
You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
I hope they caught the guy they were looking for and all residents of Parachute are safe.

I have nothing against the 2nd Ammendment, my husband even has guns (he doesn't carry them on his person at this time) but when you have someone who may be unstable running around, such as the gunman in Virginia, where is there a problem with better being safe than sorry.

Let me guess - you also have a supply of duct tape, plastic wrap, and dust masks.

Well to start it off....this is horrible. I've never had to deal with anything like this. I live in parachute and i have 3 kids that are in each school. one at the high school one at the jr. high and one at the elm. this day has been such a drain on me. after having having my kids finally with me....no way in hell are they going to school tomorrow without conformation that he has been caught or that he is not in the area. None of my kids had a clue what was going on during the whole lock down. the one in elm. didn't have a clue she was in lockdown.(which is good) but the other two were told that something happened in parachute and they weren't allowed to say what.......my two oldest were so afraid that something had happened to me or the brothers and sister. they were so confused. so if by tomorrow they haven't caught him or confirmed him gone none of my kids or anyones kids that i know of will not be at school. it's a good thing to have lock down...but it scares the hell out kids also. what do you do? hold them close and thank god for them is what we are doing

I personally know who did this because the person who he pointed the gun at was my brother! I'm thankful nothing worse happened, and I think they handle the situation the right way. You never know what might trigger a person to go off. I hope the police catch him and get him the help he needs. Parachute is a small community, so when something like this happens it’s no wonder the town takes precautions.
