It's a shame that while the country celebrates the Fourth of July, many Americans don't really understand what they are celebrating.

Don't you mean IS NOT AMERICAN is right wing code for something that is not endorsed by the pharmacutical and insurance companies. If it weren't for those two entities we would have had decent health care in the United States decades ago.

Why is this current system good? How does it actually address the under-insured? How does it address employers who now have decided that they no longer will provide group health for their employees?

Happy 4th to you and yours'.

I agree with Bob hey Ware just go back home you grouchy Haole. Ultimately you are just jealous and probably don't have anyone to call you by those terms of endearment.

Try on "lolo" and see if it fits. Aloha Aunty Ware

Agreed. Mr. Guerrero is in such denial concerning the current sorry state of affairs brought on by the Obama administration that he cannot let go of the past administration.

Star-Bulletin - how can you print such racist and culturally insensitive comments?

Growing up in Hawai`i, I was always taught to accept EVERYONE as 'Ohana (Family). It is a sign of respect to refer to an elder as "auntie" or "uncle."

No I do not speak in code. Those are the exact same words as Obama used and it IS socialized healthcare no matter what bow you put on it.

For many years the Hawaii Legislature has
offered Budgets that slowly diminished the
Discretionary funds and now they are gone.
Surprise! George Bush did it. The only
possible answer is the Excise Tax increase
immediately. Raise the Tax and blame
George Bush is a perfect solution then get
on to next Governor election. The worst is
yet to come, Folks...

Forcing people to "choose" (kinda oxymoronic) or be fined and running the private sector out of business is most certainly NOT American. How will the people cope with increased taxes in this economic state to cover the costs? How will the bisinessess be able to provide their employees coverage? Oh yeah, they won't because gov't will drop prices so low (along with them telling you whom you can go see and what you can have done and when.....) that ANY competition will be driven out of business. How do you see paying more in taxes and forcing businesses to cut workforces (job loss) is a good idea? VA anyone? Gov't oversees that and look at that PRIME example of gov't beuracracy and healthcare you all can look forward to. If I remember correctly, many people were in an uproar over the conditions of the VA and asked how that could be? Obviously....big-daddy gov'ts hand was in it and so bad idea!

R.M. Ware, from whatever northeastern rock you came out from under, we have been doing this forever. In fact we local folks find your mentioned "official" titles offensive. Too much formality forbids familiarity. Even strangers get along here. How 'bout my mahu relative? what i going call him? "mr." uncle? Just mellow out..listen to the fireworks tonite, have a few (or more) beers and just think 'local" it'll come to you... relax.. aloha

Good posting. Too bad it will always be wrong to certain people. I don't know how many times this person has said we are wrong(and will continue to do so long after we are gone).

Happy 4th also!

"It's a shame that while the country celebrates the Fourth of July, many Americans don't really understand what they are celebrating. Our forefathers were tired of living in the shadow of British royalty and were virtually enslaved as worker bees under tyrannical leaders, who used torture not only to intimidate, but for amusement. There was no opportunity to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, nor religious freedom."

Guerrero is spot on. Look at how America treats Hawaiians. Some Americans rave about life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and civil rights for all yet EXCLUDE Hawaiians from all of this.

Yes... today it is a great day to celebrate the independence of the U.S. but there is ALOT of hypocrisy in America and in some Americans.

Happy 4th of July!

Lana, last I checked Hawaiians were entitled to all the rights and freedoms as other Americans. How are they excluded? Just asking.

There you go again with your Republican talking points. This is what Republicans back in the 1930's called Social Security, and in the 1960's they called Medicare Socialist. The conservative Republican John Birch Society, which had an office three blocks from where I lived in Southern California, went even further and called Medicare a Communist plot. Of course, these were also the wonderful conservatives who cheered when President John Kennedy was assassinated.
History has spoken, and the Republicans were wrong in the 1930's, they were wrong in the 1960's, and they will be judged wrong now by future generations.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Leo

Be choosy about who you spend time with today. If you're with someone who's habitually miserable or sorry for themselves, you'll soon be dragged down to their level and will struggle to recover again. However, you may feel such sympathy for their plight that you don't see you have any choice but to be with them. If so, do your best to remain positive.
