Park City could buy this for the same price as buying into the Boyer project ...http://www.parkrecord.com/c i_13756345

The sad thing is, I'm not sure which is the worse idea.

Here's a little blurb I found:

Elk Meadows ski area is an all around resort for families and friends wanting to have a relaxing ski vacation in Utah. The resort is aimed for beginner and intermediate skiers but with over 3000 ft vertical drop every type of skier can enjoy these runs. There is one half pipe, one terrain park and there is also about 20 km of cross country skiing, which is another great way to view this resort. Elk Meadows ski resort is a step up from Brian Head and is only about 45 minutes away. The people here are always really friendly and make your stay enjoyable.

Funny that writeup says 3000' vertical, the stats says 10,400 summit 9000 base which was 1400 when I went to skrewel. That said it looks from the trail map it looks like a fun area. Probably just too far from population centers make a go of it.
Why the weirdness

The Park Record is infamous for being lazy in their general reporting. Most of the time they take a press release and just take it at its face value and don't do any work.

The best example was when the Park Record printed and lie over and over again that Promontory had been bought by Credit Suisse. That lie was based solely on the press release and spin from the Promontory developers who didn't want to tell the truth which was that Promontory was in default in their loan to Credit Suisse so Credit Suisse reposessed it.

There is a big difference between "reposessed" and "bought".

But the Park Record didn't bother to make a few phone calls to find out. Either that of they didn't want to piss off one of their advertisers.

Either way its pretty crappy reporting.
