Ellsworth, Eaton, Zehm break gun theft caper
Full story: The Boomerang/STPNS
What began as a routine traffic stop by Palouse Officers Scott Ellsworth and Chad Eaton turned into much more. The driver of the vehicle, 18 year old Ean M. Mercer of Colfax, was booked into Whitman County jail October 20 on charges of DUI and Driving While License Suspended, according to a Whitman County Sheriff's office press release. The passenger in the vehicle was a Colfax juvenile and released to his parents. Several firearms were discovered (some loaded) and seized during the search of the vehicle and the officers found evidence of possible hunting violations. A Fish and Wildlife officer responded to the scene and that part of the investigation is still in progress.
