It would be interesting to know what kinds of home-based businesses the city does allow. If it is a blanket ban on home-based businesses that may not be legal. If not, then it would be informative if the Breeze reported the language of the law that is on the books. I'd like to know how the city can ban one form of home business and not another. It seems from the story that the City did try and reach a solution with the Ernie Howlett Park offer. It would be helpful if the Breeze could report exactly what the financial impact is to the business owners. Which is a fancy way of saying "How much do they have to pony up?" (Pun intended.)

Some south bay cities pay attention to what type of business is going on in their town. Others like Redondo could care less about all the unlicensed business operating.

I think they call this whole thing 'THE AZTECA MOVEMENT" To take back all the states that used to be Mexico ! Hang on, it looks like it's working to me. Hurry up and legalize pot to get the revenue to fight this. Oh yea, and the Cartels will also lose business ! Two birds with one stone (ha ha).

Sounds to me like a bunch of sissy rich bitches complaining about a lifestyle that was there before their big houses were built there.

Good ol' spoiled, ungrateful PV residents. I live in an apartment. I'd love to have a big house and horses walking down my street.

Being offered an opportunity to work out of Ernie Howlett Park is like getting a key to the city. You don't just ignore it and tell the city to open all the doors for you instead. That's like looking a gift horse in the mouth. Commercial businesses have no place in the residential neighborhoods of Rolling Hills Estates.

I used to run all over PV when I was growing up. I don't understand what the big deal is about the horses. It adds to the niceties of a community. Over here in O.C. in Sunny Hills there are horses being ridden on trails and even residential areas with multi-million dollar price tags....everybody's ok with it. Gives kids something to look forward to on the weekends. Now cool is that to go riding on a nice Saturday morning?? Guess there's always somebody wantin' to ruin a good thing,eh?? PV people....keep your BS over there. Don't come this way.......we like it just the way it is.

I can remember years ago - horseback riding all through Rolling Hills. Is this a new business? I wish they would clarify it a little better. I just laugh at the people who complain about the beautiful peacocks and yet, they have been there forever. We actually had one here in Redondo Beach on top of my next door neighbors roof. It was gorgeous. We did not get all weird about it. Horses were something that were always up on the hill.

These horse guys should have at least opened a dialog with the city so they knew how far apart they were. Just common courtesy. I guess they are no match for Business tycoon like Mayor Addleman.

I go riding with Pat and his team all the time. I'm a Redondo Beach resident and I was stoked to have access to equestrian activities so close. So excited in fact that among riding w/Pat, I have also signed up for lessons at another near by barn, go shopping in Rolling Hills, currently looking for boarding there, and yes, even want to purchase a home there. Driving businesses like his away is doing more harm to the city than would be incurred upsetting a few spoiled and whiny neighbors. It makes me very sad to think I wouldn't be able to ride there anymore. I really wish the city could offer something better to both of these businesses. I guess I might have to take my business somewhere else.

"Stable"? "Trail Rides"? For "adults"? Sounds like code words for prostitution for me. Hmm... yes, isn't the Mustang Ranch a brothel? Western style, huh? Does that mean that there's a bored soccer mom playing the piano in the saloon downstairs?

Seems to me that the city along with newer residents are trying to get rid of all the horses in RHE.. this is just the start. The same thing happened in the city of Torrance...wait until they go after the private residents with horses then the community will speak up.

It's too bad those with the money have the power to "buy" the city council and therefore, run honest businesses out. Perhaps yes, these guys ran their business out from their homes, but as others have stated on this story, the horses and trails were there long before these spoiled, arrogant and elitist homeowners showed up! I'm sorry that these 2 guys have lost their way of life. Now, my only hope is that these beautiful animals don't end up in the slaughterhouse, because of these jerks, shame on them!

Without a doubt Pat and Jim should have responded to the city no matter how unreasonable their demands were and attempted to work out a solution to the stabling issue. It's never smart to ignore official letters from the city. That said, there is an obvious demand for horseback-riding businesses in RHE and the city should be doing everything it can to encourage these guys. It's a unique service that can only be offered on the hill and it draws people from other areas to spend money with local businesses.
The 800 pound gorilla (or Friesian) in the room is the role the ineptly run city stables are playing in this drama. The city loses tens of thousands of dollars a month on the Peter Weber center yet goes after these guys? Why not clean up the waste and cronyism there before running small businesses off the hill.
