I am not intending on bashing any group. I just am curious who is running the Jr. Griffins and how will that impact kids currently in the program. I have a cheerleader and there is no information on the Jr. Griffin website on who will is running it and if cheerleaders will be making the switch. Are they doing competitions?

George Metanias, splitting the talent and numbers in Mokena....both programs will be diluted and lose out. Sorry George, you still won't field a winner....

I was wondering if someone can explain to me the need for two different groups this year. It just doesn't make sense for the community to be split. Is this really for the kids? Now they may not be playing along side thier friends because the parents are forced to choose between the two. Also, information regarding the differences burros vs. griffins?

I know..... I am hearing so many rumors, I wonder if the two opposing teams will just destroy the other. And no it is not about the kids, it is about the parents who do not know how to be examples for their kids. Very sad. My child is hearing the rumors as well.

I put two boys thru the burros. It use to be a good organization but has declined over the years. The parent only want to coach there kids and leave after they are done with the program. that tells me they are in it for them selfs. People who stay with the program and give there time after their kids leave, Are PEOPLE for the kids and the program. The board has changed and let certain people tell the board what they should do so that it is in their best interest. They have taken their home games away from lincoln way east, something the kids looked forward too!. The new griffins will have some problems I am sure, but as far as this new team goes, its will work. Frankfort has two teams,New Lenox has three teams, Orland park has three team, and they all seem to be doing just fine. In the burros, you had to go by the weight class,so if you son was ten years old and his weight was 125 pounds he had to play with kids older than him, which has pros and cons.In the new team he would play with kids his same age,but he would have a strip put on his helmet and he would play certain positions. He would then be playing with his friends. The odds of him playing on a higher level in the burros would be slim. I have seen that happen.

Before you know it, Jr. Griffins will claim to be a "feeder" program to LWE. Who gives a crap...it's a public school, anyone can go there. It's just a bunch of dads who either got tossed off the Burros board or could not get a Burros team to coach.

Does anyone know why they are starting a second program? Was there that many extra kids at each level?

I heard its a better league to play in. The weight classes are better for kids that are bigger and that the young kids that are bigger can still play with there same age group because of the striper program they have in this league. There are kids that wanted to play on the burros but would have had to play with kids in a higher weight clas and older then them. Some parent dont like to see there kid play up.

Afraid of watering down the talent pool so guys can have teams (kind of like travel baseball...same guys, go figure)....but my kid's done and in HS, so I really don't care that much. As far as weight limits, don't be afraid of playing with older boys...my kid got picked on for half of a practice before he kicked all their butts & never looked back. They rise to the challenge.

you said it! thinking of yourself and your kid.Thats why the burros are going down. You dont care about the other kids that might not have the talent that your boy does. What a shame

I cannot believe people would get so upset over football. I applaud people who try to start something new. Obviously he did not like the way things were so he is making the changes in a start up league. The comment about dilluting the talent pool is funny. These are just kids that want to play football. I do not believe the NFL scouts these games. Get a grip Mokena and let the kids have fun.

If the new league requires equal playing time for all kids I will rush to sign my kid up. A league that has this as a rule is truly about the kids and not the talent level. Kudos to jr griffins if this is true.

Daddy ball coaches can no longer coach their kids in one organization so they start a new one, no big surprise in Mokena. The new organization will have the same issues and problems as the current one, same as every other one in the area. All parents need to take a deep breath and understand the following stats.... Percentages of Playing in the NFL:
If you played highschool football:0.03%
If you played college football: 0.61%
If you were actively scouted: 5.5%
Dying in a car accident: 0.4%(Lifetime odds)
Sports is about and should be for our kids. The lessons learned in sport cannot be taught in school, read in a book or watched on T.V. they must be experienced. You Can't fake or hide talent.

I agree with you, you cant fake or hide talent, but whats the problem with having another league? If the burros are saying in the paper that this league will effect 600 hundred kids,it should be a good thing. Now more kids will have an option on where to play and could get more playing time. I dont understand why the burros organization is so upset with this new league. GROW UP BURROS !
