Two men on trial in Carbon County for a street fight that led to the death of an Easton man last year took plea bargains Friday that could let them serve as few as two years in jail.

This story isn't very clear to me. What did the fight actually start over? and was it inside the pizza place that it started? It sounds like the dead man was not innocent. unfortunatly he is dead, but to me it sounded like he was aggressive. any other info??

The courts and prisoim systems need a total overhaul in this county!!! You can do almost any crime in Carbon county including MURDER and use the defense that you where drunk or on drugs and the bleeding heart judges will cut you loose. The county thinks it is better for them to put you on probation ( they charge a monthly fee) rather than put them in jail.( that cost the county money) This is a disgrace the little BAS**RDs should be locked up and the keys thown away. There is no reason or excuse for what they did, nor can any JUDGE give me a reason why they would make a deal to plea bargin. Our judges must be named Montey Hall.
Time for a change maybe this man would still be alive had he carried a gun and had used it to defend himself. If more people carried guns and where not afraid to use them this little punks would think twice about what they do. I know I won't go without a fight!!!!!!!!!!

If you type in Richard Higgins under search you can read all of the articles about the trial. However I do believe there was more evidence presented in favor of the assailants than there was in favor of the Higgins family. The assailants definitely got off easy for the result of their actions.

Regardless of who started it, these parasites of the community killed a man, and were happy about it, with no remorse which is the biggest problem, you can't "fix" someone with no empathy even with punishment. These parasites and the leeches that were cuaght sending porn to kids over the internet will get off easy, but the happy hippy growing some pot in his backyard will get 5 years. Scubbag lawyers, whiney parents, and a corupt system are to thank. Oh and more guns on the street are not a solution, try again!

Apparently you have no respect for someone who is dead. We understand that you would not have stopped your car to see what was going on. If your father was following you and then disappeared wouldn't you go back to see where he was?

It also said that the older Higgins went back to the pizza shop where he blamed the two older guys for supposedly pouring their 'ice tea' on his car.
???
Really? Why not just wash it off?
You had already left the place...
now you're dead.
Dumb.
Especially if you got your @ss beat doing it.

I got thrown in prison for 5 to 10 for selling a little weed. killed a Bubba trying to make JAILHOUSE love to me. Doing life now. I knew I should have beat the person who ratted me out to death. 2 years in the COUNTY??? I could do that standing on my head. These guys are street smart, congradulations on the con, it worked very well. Hey all you bad guys, this is a lesson to be learned. KILL first, or have to KILL later. I know. What a F'N joke.

Ever hear of Karma?? You just damned yourself. Hopefully this would never happen to one of your loved ones. BTW you obviously dont have all the facts. If this does happen in your life, you have yourself to blame. You reap what you sow. You have a right to your property and if its being destroyed you have a right to ask why. You also have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Which in both cases were destroyed by these punks. BTW Mr. Higgins' fought for your right to have that. He also fought for your grossly negligent comment. You have no respect for your elders. No one knew who threw the first punch and the people who claimed who did, were the felons. Believable? I think not. You are the dumba** So I'm going to use my constitutional right and say "may you rot in hell with the other felons"

This guy is driving down the street and his car is hit by an ice tea carton. So he stops and gets out and says to the guilty ones “I love my car and you attacked it.” They reply soothingly “ we’re sorry, it was an accident, may we pay for a car wash for you?” Answer “ it may need body work!” So the guys say to each other “ how much should we punish this guy for our transgression? Why not kill him, we can add that to our repertoire. At least let’s just restrain him until he cools down, after all there are four of us. He could even have a weak heart.” So they give him their names and addresses and promise to pay for any damage they inflicted. My story has a happy ending.
This reminds me of “bum fights” where several bored youths looking for excitement hunt for a bum and beat him up. Presto, boredom gone. Be sure to find an old bum who’s is bad shape with arthritis and suffering from poor diet. Oh, make sure he’s outnumbered. After all, he did put his arms around his head to ward off blows. I call that aggression don’t you?

I just wish, JUST WISH!!!!!, I had been driving by when these punks were ganging up on the two Higgins's. These vermin would have been the ones eating the sidewalk! Nothing like good vigilante justice. How do parents raise such slimeballs? They must really be proud!

Karma, my @ss!
There is no such thing as Karma except in Karmann Ghia.
I suppose that you don't eat meat because you think its your Uncle Harry reincarnated???

As for what respect I do have, I WAS a law enforcement officer and arrested over 400 people for varying violations of the law.
I'm certified to know what true legal 'respect' and 'rights' Mr. Higgins has and had before he made the mistake of having a physical confrontation that caused his unfortunate death.
It was NOT his business to extract justice himself.
It was his business to identify these jerks to the police that he should have called to the scene to deal with their behavior.
If you don't believe me, ask the cops and DA.
What happened was stupid on all their parts, but he lost his life.
He won't recover from a mistake like what happened, and neither will his family, sadly.
I deal with idiots in Allentown all the time as a civilian, and I don't do what he did, even when I would love to. My PR neighbors have been telling me for years that I can get shot just for telling someone to lower the noise. I always call the police to be there when its happening. When they come, I'm alive.
I don't punch people over something that I can wash off my car with water in five minutes.
With drunk jerks, you don't throw matches, they're already like gasoline.

Ahem, that's exactly what I was wondering, where were the police while this was taking place? Palmerton is not that big, that's a question that should be asked to the borough, I am assuming they have to keep logs as to what they were doing during their shift, it would be interesting. I do feel for this family, but, I would have pulled over and called 911, I am sure they would have gotten cited for disorderly conduct or something.

So calling the man dumb, desecrating the dead is part of your so called good somaritan like conduct? Also insulting a religion, which I am Christian, however nonetheless is a slur part of your humanitarian behavior?? WOW...I have a hard time believing you were an officer of the law, and if you were I am SURE you were corrupt. All your prejudices would have hindered your decisions. A simple question why did you throw that was asked. Most people would have done that. Hindsight is 20/20 and I can't believe that the majority of people would have dialed 911 before holding the cupable for their actions JUST by asking why. Mr. Higgins', I'm sure, did not know they were drunk. BTW they passed the breathalizer rendering them able to drive. It was stated earlier. You are one he** of a detective since you listen to all the facts.
