To add to the discussion, those receiving welfare monies from the state should be obligated to perform some sort of community service in return. That way, their dignity will remain intact and the public won't be so infuriated because welfare recipients will be earning their keep.

Don't give someone a fish teach them TO fish, don't give someone a loaf of bread, teach them HOW to bake. As long as we don't require those that take public assistance to learn how to take care of their self we are going to continue to have these problems. No one should get welfare for more than 4 years, that is time enough to learn to support yourself. It should be understood when appling for welfare that having additional children will not increase you income and women that apply for welfare should be required to give the names of the father(s) of their children. Failure to supply that information will result in not being approved for aid. All applacant must be fingerprinted, photograghed and all Soc.Sec.#'s of mothers and all children checked to be sure the #'s are vaild. The idea that anyone can just walk into a welfare office and walk out with aid is down right stupid. Not only stupid but completely irresponsible. The taxpayers don't mind giving a hand up but it needs to lead to the receiver learning to take care of themselves, so one day they can help give a hand up to someone else. The taxpayer should not be responsible to support someone for life.

There are 3 adults and6 kids living in a section 8 apartment. All the adults work and 1 owns a small business. Three teenagers also work and do not go to school. They receive welfare for kids who's dads are in jail and some are supposedly in Mexico. One father is here illegally and working and paying child support. They all get food stamps. This is 3 adult women milking the system. They get away with this with fake SS#. Obtained in Huntington Park. Not to mention free medical and dental. I am not friends with them. I know all this because I used to work with one, and know of 1 SS# she stole out of our office from a former employee. I am not jealous! I have always followed the law and have worked hard to get what I have. Not like these people. It sounds like you could be one of them. Watch out!

Then why aren't they willing to work for better change in their own countries? Now that's lazy.

The one who owns the business is the one getting all the free stuff. The one father who is here illegal does work and pays his ex child support even though she has claimed she receives no money from him because he is in Mexico. He is afraid not to pay her. She has threatened to turn him in if he doesn't.

That's what I call a travesty of justice. People who follow and obey the law work to support law-breakers who steal benefits. And for a real slap in the face, those fraudsters laugh at your honesty.

No sweetie!! Thank god I am not lazy. I am a single parent of 4 kids, and I do have a really good job. I do not depend on you or anyone elses taxes to pay my way. If I was on welfare, I would not be able to afford anything, I probably be sitting at home gossiping and hating on everyone else who has a job and a life, u know!! Not me, I have always been independent. So, you were probably stealing from your job too, and you were probably on welfare as well!! humm!! Oh by the way, next time b more specific!!

Wow. This is truly sad for the disabled and elderly who really need the help. It makes the workers even more suspicious of someone truly in need that have come in and applied for benifets.

12, 12....there are thousands of fraudulent cases...and they got 12....i guess i should say it's good to start somewhere.....but i wonder how much money it cost us, and will cost us, to find and bring the 12 to justice.

but is anyone really surprised, i mean, come one......the government just hands out money. of course people are going to milk the system. that's the problem with handing out money!!

and it's the democrats who don't want them fingerprinted....because, giving some validation to the one poster who said it takes $9 to give a $1, well, the more money demies can claim we need to feed the "needy and poor", the bigger the govnmnt and the happier they are taking other people's money and trying to control our lives.
