12 arrested in L.A. welfare fraud
Twelve of 21 people accused of defrauding taxpayers out of more than $2 million in funds for an in-home care program for the elderly and disabled were arrested in a countywide sweep, a prosecutor said Thursday.

Of course they should be fingerprinted!! That would eliminate the majority of the fraud, or at least make it more difficult. See, we HAVE the revenue, we don't need more taxes. We just need to learn how to use what we have intelligently. I wonder how many of these recipients were also illegal??

Let's vote Villaraigosa OUT this year! Mickey Mouse would be an improvement!! LA has gone down the toilet in every way imaginable. Crime, fiscally, culturally, resources, the works. LA is a very sick joke now.

I suspect that this "emerging trend" has been going on for years. They only got twelve? Only 800 cases were referred? Shouldn't that be 8000? What happens to these people? They can't go to jail, who would take care of their meal tickets? Is paying for fraud cheaper than foster care? It's a win for the fraudsters, a loss for the taxpayers. BTW, government system based on honesty? Did Baker say that with a straight face? Is he headlining at the Laugh Factory this weekend?

just 12 attested and thousands to go!!!... I guess it's started for reform

I read somewhere that it take about $9 in taxes to provide $1 in welfare benefits. Some tickle down waste that is. I think that welfare workers who allow fraud to occur should be responsible to pay the government back for their inadequacy to perform their fiduciary duties as welfare employees. Reward system should be in place. People who turn in those committing welfare fraud should be entitles to half the amount saved in one year as an incentive. It's a win-win situation; the government saves money in the first year and each year thereafter, and the whistle blower finds a new source of revenue. I say this after observing people in the grocery store buying luxury foods with the food stamp card (they are not required to show ID to use the card) then they exit the store only to enter their BMW's or Benzes. Something is definitely wrong with that picture. |

definitely sounds like do-able ideas. Wonder if our esteemed Mayor ever reads these blogs. Or even knows HOW to read. |
|
and how about couples living together for years with mutual children, and the woman collecting welfare child support for an unkown "missing" father? You can have a child every year and collect more and more and still live with your "husband"....how about investigators specifically watching for this type of fraud? |

Honesty is not one of society's more prominent virtues.
We have become an enabling society - if you don't expect people to be self-sufficient, too often they won't. Give them a handout for too long and they expect it! |

Does anyone know where we can turn people in? I know of a family who receives welfare, section 8 housing, food stamps, and receives child support from an ex who's illegal. And also owns a profitable small business. I have tried the sheriffs department but no help there.

You said it. That's why illegals come pouring across the border. One can hardly blame them. Instead, the masses of illegals and therefore the perpetuity of welfare fraud is the fault of our government who cares less for taxpaying citizens and more for the "poor". Give someone a handout and it takes away their incentive to work. Strange, also how these "poor" have big screen TV's, video cameras, nice cars, their kids in school wear $100 Nikes and there's always more than enough disposable income to buy beer and lottery tickets. |

|

How do you know all this?? It sounds to me as if you are just hating on this person. |
|
Where in the article mentins "Illegals"?, only two spanish surnames, and it does not specify their citizenship |
|
Well it doesnt sound to me as if they are commiting a crime!! Obviously, this person is trying to do something with their life. Unlike others that are receiving all this and dont try to work or at least go to school!! C'mon, stop hating on this person. |
