Several years ago Arabian Horse Network (AHRN) rescued some horses from a feedlot that were from Cal Poly. Several of the horses, fountain Arabians from Edna Drapers estate were sent to this rescue is there anyway to find out if they are all right? Ther have beeen other rescues in the past have sent horses there thinking they would be safe hopefully these rescues will be given a chance to help the horses they placed with the santuary.

From what I have heard all of the horses ( or most of them ) are being killed right on the property with rendering trucks there, lights, caterers and a "party like' atmosphere.. Somoe who is not involved needs to check this out. If true is is a huge injustice.. and a certain waste of taxpayers dollars.. not too mention the DEAD horses..how very sad.. why not give the rescues a chance to feed and water.. has anyone priced hay lately.. where are some TAX dollars to help to keep the horses ALIVE? There is money to kill them.. but not to try to educate and work with and follow up the people who had them What kind of world is this? And who are these people who kill with impunity?

Unfortunately some of these horses were too bad too save. That woman had been reported several times. We have seen those horses it was suppose to be a place too go and purchase a horse but she would never ever sell them. I'm surprised that any of them will survive they are in pretty bad shape. It is really sad.

Linda Moss and Equus are the GOOD GUYS, folks. Mongo22, Linda has never, ever sold horses, she has always stated that she runs a Sanctuary. Cindi, Linda and RoseAnn (AHRN) were very close -- Linda got RoseAnn involved in rescue -- and I would assume that any of the Draper mares that were still with Linda would be safe. I for one, would trust Linda with my life.

Do none of you idiots not know what an old horse looks like?

Old horse, like old people, lose weight, look thin, look emaciated, look bad.

The animal rights nut cases are targeting rescues over and over. Why? They want no animals in our lives.

Peta Kills 90 percent of the pets they take in, they would sooner see them dead than alive and in homes.

Same with these horses, I thought horse slaughter was illegal in the US - rendering trucks??? huh

Get real AR scum idiots.

when they were loading them on the trailers we were over that way. 6 months ago my neighbor tried to buy a horse she is one of the people that reported her. I don't buy horses I don't care for horses. The only sham hear is you. You do not live in this area and you need to keep your opinion to yourself unless you have personnally been there.

True, older horses do get thinner and can look pretty ratty, but vets and the authorities will not get involved unless the animals look REALLY bad-they have plenty of other things to do.
Given enough feed, and more important, enough good hay and proper dental care they won't look that bad. Seriously doubt that there is a "party" atmosphere there and I agree you better have been right there to make comments like Pork Chop, who apparently wasn't. Sadly, at this time there are not enough tax dollars to do all the good things we would like to do. I would rather euthanize an animal than see it starve.

Even a toothless old horse can be fed to PROPER WEIGHT. The 37yo endurance Arab in the new lately has no ribs showing - and no teeth. Being old DOES NOT equal being thin. They can eat plenty of soaked pellets, beet pulp, corn oil, alfalfa meal, etc etc... just takes more effort.

Sounds to me if these folks had emaciated horses all over the place, they were being mistreated.

I know all about Linda Moss and Equus, this isn't the first time she has been in trouble regarding the care of her horses. She has moved around so many times to avoid getting caught or pay people she owes. In my opinion she is nothing but an animal collection using the excuse that this animals are rescues and can't not be placed in good loving homes.
I remember Linda Moss when she was working with HorseAid and I wouldn't trust her as far as I can throw her. The care she gives her personal horses is not the same care she gives the rescue horses.

There was no party there. For the perosn who thinks that is an idiot. You don't think that all the agencies that had to come together to deal with Linda Moss mess had nothing beter to do than euthanize starving, neglected horses in what 105 heat your crazy. I know one person out there that got heat stroke the first day. They had to deal with this for two days. Sounds like alot of fishy things on the so called rescue. Why do they go to the feed store every day to buy horse feed??? More that half the water barrels where empty, in this heat. I would listen to the people who had to live by this mess, and seen it with there own eyes than anyone else. And when it comes down to old horses, the quality of life thought should step in. If they can barley walk, eat, stand, or heck even know there alive Euthanasia would be a blessing for them. How would you feel, if that were you?? What kind of life is it??? What is in the best interest of the animal??? Suffering, or a quick almost pain less death???

I was one of the rescuers involved and relocated horses to a much better place. We relocated over 70 horses that were saveable. 18 horses had to be euthanized - these horses were so crippled and emaciated that they were beyond help, some had blood oozing from the numerous fly bites, manure so high in the stalls we could hardly open the doors. Some horses were missing eyes, open wounds, their feet had not been attended to for years. Hooves were growing around shoes, mares were stalled with stallions, etc.... There was not a spec of feed anywhere to be found. The horses that had water, was not drinkable, it was BLACK stagnant water. The conditions were beyond horrible. Some horses were so dehydrated they had to be IV'd. The time was not taken to age the horses, many were old, but I have seen many old horses and they don't look like these emaciated, starved horses. There was no party going on here. The vets were appalled at the job at task and took it very seriously. They saved any horse that they thought possible. It was 102 degrees both days, pens had to be built to gather horses, so they could be haltered, documented and vet checked. All the horses got vaccinated and wormed before being transported. Los Angeles County Animal Control should be commended for what they pulled off and NOT persecuted for a dirty job that had to be done. It is our tax dollars at work - and anyone involved or who enabled this "sanctuary" to exist should be ashamed of themselves for not knowing who or what they were supporting. If you are as horrified as I am about this situation, log onto http://www.lacountyanimals.org/ and make a donation to the care of the horses, or better yet adopt one!

I was there and no one told me there was a party. I don't know how I missed it.
First horse euthanized had a leg bigger around than me and smelled like rotted meat. He was anxious leaving his buddy because they were house in the same stall.(I guess they didn't need much room because the buddy was rocked back in a founder stance and probably didn't walk much anyway), so the vet had him brought out so they could comfort each other. Of course, he had to put down his cake first.
I wish the news would mention the mobile home that they pulled several cats out of. The smell would knock you off your feet from 100 yards. That doesn't seem like it was in their best interest.
Or mabye they could show the horse that had a seizure every time there was a noise. At a party, that gets kind of old pretty fast.
Or the broodmare with a foal at her side whose hooves were at least 10" long... sorry to not be entirely accurate, but the curling makes it hard to measure.
Or maybe the news could help explain why a so called rescue shouldn't keep stallions and mares together. With so many unwanted horses, you'd think they wouldn't be interested in creating more.
Not all horses were in bad shape. Some that will be available for adoption are truly gorgeous.
Rule number one: do not take more animals than you can care for. If the situation changes and you can care for less than you previously could, it is YOUR responsibility to do something about it before the animals suffer.

A PARTY? WHERE IN THE HECK ARE YOU GETTING INFO FROM UP IN SAN FRANCISCO??

I live only a short distance from this mess and what you are saying is twisted. I will be the first one to tell you that this woman should never be allowed to be within shouting range of another animal and should be monitored the rest of her life without notice given! The problem with educating these people is that you are dealing with a person or persons that are mentally unstable and need intervention. We must make it so they can't get animals into there sick lives. Now they are getting slapped on the hand with little jail time and go right back to it Give them a chance??? How many chances would you like us to give her?????
I'm not a friend of the way animal control is run here in LA County and would like to see some huge changes. The changes are not tough once you get the special interest out of the picture.
Animal control, as far as I'm concerned wait much too long on these cases and way to many animals continue to suffer while they investigate for 1-2-3 years! It's red tape and BS.
Yes there is plenty of money paid by us the tax payer but it is lining too many pockets. It is simple to change but politics are muddy and political correctness is the destruction of our
country.(another topic another day)

again!
BTW -- When you have that many ill and lame animals that are past being saved the most kind thing that can be done is to euthanize right on the spot so that they're not tormented more by being moved. Yes, you'll need many hands to assist and you will need trucks and lights since it went on well into the night. These people have a tough job and I am sure they did the best with what they had so I certainly won't speak badly of them.
One more thing is that if you have ever been in such a horific situation you will know why there was some lightness made. It is the only way that a human with any heart can emotionally deal. Ask and police officer or fireman.
There have been many situtions out here the same and worse and NOTHING HAS CHANGED. The same repeat offenders over and over again.

We need Sheriff Joe from Maricopa County (look him up on the www) to clean up this falty system out here!!!!! It would be handled neatly and swiftly.
We need the private sector involved! Lets join together to stop this!

Hello Volunteer!
You are a beautiful human and my blessings are with you always. This is truely a gut wrenching situation to have to deal with. There's nothing that makes dealing with this easy, not even cake.
I'll bet those doctors were in the trailer eating the cake! This is sick..sick..sick.
Thank you for all you do. I know that you go to bed and have many sleepless nights, but the sleep comes after you remember what lives you comforted and saved.

Hello Parent of 3
Don't let this make us sad and complacent. Let it make us angry and active. Let's make the changes here in the AV. There are many more of these places up here that need to be stopped!

Did anyone every wonder what happens to our beloved pets when they get lost????
