I commend the arrest but what's going to happen to the arrestee's? Most likely nothing as the court's do little to discourage repeat behavior, meaning they have to be caught again and even then draw minimum fines. I avocate a minimum of 100 hours graffitti removal detail for each, then 500 hours each for a second offense plus 10 days in jail. 3rd offense, 1000 hours plus 30 days.

We have recently purchased a new home in DHS. The first thing that I noticed in DHS is the graffitti. I suggest setting up temporary mobile cameras in suspect areas of the city. Any one caught should have stiff penalties. First offense, $1000 fine plus restitution, 30 days in jail or juvenile detention and 100 hrs. of community service. Simply keep doubling the penalty for repeat offenses. You can be rest assured that there will be a dramatic change in the amount of graffitti in DHS, which is the Graffitti Capital of the USA.

atleast they werent doing it in the streets or on houses if you know anything about this place you know its out in a remote place under a bridge and what they do is actual Art. i take my dog down there all the time to escape the heat and i enjoy the art. now i do have a problem with them leaving there cans but if they had legal walls for them to paint like in vinice beach then they could walk out with there trash in hand and not worry about being arrested. I say put a recycling dumpster at the exit and give them a safe enviromentally sound place to dispose of there cans and instead of them resorting to taging public places they have a place where the only people who will see it are the people whom want to and enjoy looking at it.oh and to answer why the names are all hispanic it could possibly be because this was there land first!!! maybe. oh and DHS is not the graffiti capital of the usa idiot NY,NY is. its where it all started. try to be educatd on something before you talk about it. thats what i always do. Also do you want to really give a young teenager 30 days in jail when they are at there most impressionable time in there life for doing something they will more than likely outgrow that is a phase. graffiti isnt a gateway offense like drug use. not many kids who do graffiti go out and sell meth next they spend their time drawing and painting oppsed to doing hold ups for dope money. so i could see doing graffiti clean up for community servie not one month jail time. As someone who served 2 tours in iraq i feel i fought for everyones right to express themselves even graffiti artist or any artists for that matter. if you want we could go back to the middle ages when no one had the right to express themselves at all. i just feel like some of you are over reacting. i live in palm springs but i can from a little town in illinois. but ive lived all over and i think you cant spak about an area unless you know much about it! ~SGT. So they arrested them. Big deal. The courts will do NOTHING. Getting caught will just be a badge of honor to the vandals. Set up a camp in the middle of the desert. Huts, showers food and barb wire. No TV. No Rec. Nothing but boredom. Send them there for 30 days for the first offense, 90 days for the second and 1 year for the third. Either that or cane their butts like they do in Singapore. Until then, the stories of police arresting vandals like this are a joke not worth the time it takes to read them. The people in charge do not know how to do their jobs.

well i have much to say about this matter being one of the eleven who got caught it was a startling matter and what more can i say that it happens to everyone we all have a run in with the law and it is just a part of life but what i dont like is the whole racist factor of us all having mexican not hispanic last names that has nothing to do with this matter the only thing that matters is that we were caught for doing something we love that is considered illegal but even then i cant even carry around a black book with out being hassled by a law enforcement officer so no matter how or where i do it it will always have a negative view in someones eyes so no matter what it cant be stopped wether on a wall or on canvas or on paper someone wiill always frown on graffiti and that makes me work even harder to make my style better and educate people on all forms of art whether it be a portrait or some form of twisted letters its all created from the artists point of view so wheter you like me or not it doesnt matter cause i will continue doing graffiti for people like you and dont worry i dont graff on houses or public buildings im smarter and have more respect than that so dont worry but this is a part of my life so i will die with it running through me if you want to be a part of it or not!!! graffit lives !!! one heart-one soul-one love-!!!!!

i think people should be better educated on the graffiti culture.. graffiti artist are not criminals. graffiti is a form of expression.. i agree that some of the graffiti in my city is wrong only because it is written in a residential area and peoples homes and i dont think that is right but those kids are tryin to belong to a culture that has unfortinatly became commercial and they are experimenting with what they see on tv.. there's no stopping that. parents should talk to their kids and teach them to not be followers at a young age.. but graffiti is a way of life and some graff writers cant help it.. graffit is not a crime. graff artist are not the one's killing people.. just so people know, the location where the 11 teens got caught is under a freeway under path not visible to the public.. if they dont have a place to express themselve's then where are they going to go?

What an idiot.

why do people act like they never did anything wrong in their lives..what are we all perfect..these kids are doing something they like is that wrong..give em a break..i do agree that some of the graffiti that does go down around the area is wrong but for the most part some of these kids are pretty talented..they have nowhere to go and paint so if the city was really serious about stoppin' this they would wake up and stop wasting money on repainting and find legal walls or somthin' but the only thing on anybodys mind is money and greed..so to hell with them!! keep good art alive!!

why don't the police try catchin' real criminals first..and then worry about the other things..they wouldn't know good art if it jumped up and bit them in the ass..food for thought!!

i live in l.a. county and see alot of graf. most of it is tag work from haters dising one another. i drive daily through harbor geatway where hipanic gangs and blacks hate eachother so much that they kill innocent bystanerds..i have also seen alot of real nice art out there and it doesnt bother me at all.in fact near downtown l.a. the walls of the freeways have painted artwork i'm sure from some well known to the city. so what is so bad doing art work under a brige? where no one see's it but the few that go down there.have you seen it so to be so critical? let us not judge others lest we be judged - instead-..PRAY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL..
