This may be the most ridiculous story about Torrance I have seen in my 57 years as a resident. An amazing donation from our former Mayor is both generous and appropriate. I met Sandi Walker over a dozen years ago. She was kind, friendly, warm, and loved Torrance. This is the ugliness of the anti-Walker idiots rearing their fangs again. Nothing more. The people complaining about this are liars and finding ridiculous reasons to turn a fine piece of art that is generously being donated to a city that is basically devoid of culture anyway. Mayor Walker, do yourself and the memory of Sandi a favor. Your generosity is beyond the comprehension of the idiots who are holding this up. Take your kindness somewhere else where it will be appreciated. It's too good for Torrance anyway. This is a City that rewards crooks like the guys who saved Dan Halliday's crooked gang from going to jail...

For those parents who are worried about children hurting themselves on the smooth edges of the sculpture... Shouldn't you be paying attention to what your children are doing if they are not of the right age or mental state to be frolicking in a park? Just stating the obvious. I think it's a wonderful gesture from the former mayor and a nice addition to the community.

H Wood Riviera- You my friend are a narrow-minded, bitter person with a hidden agenda, and you know it. If this is what you say it is, then perhaps a trip to the eye Dr. is in order. I think this has more to do with your politics than your lack of artistic tastes, which are non-existent... Sounds like the Scotto-Furrey Regime is getting ugly again. Some people just never grow up!

I cannot even believe what I have read! Children might get hurt? Then they'd better never set foot outside their front door. Better yet, keep them in bed. That should keep them safe. The frog doesn't fit into the "beach" atmosphere? Are you kidding me? I don't happen to agree with that statement, but even if I did, SO WHAT?! You people who are objecting are nothing more than complainers with nothing better to do. And you have proven that "ignorance prevails".

I fail to understand the objections raised here. This is a piece of art, a frog no less, being place in a public park. Is it really a big deal that this park is close to the beach or are you seriously that worried that someone will get hurt on it? Look at the picture. How is someone going to get hurt? The sculpture even says she made for kids to play on. Come on people, accept the donation for what it is. If not I'm with Mr Walker "If this is turned down, I'll take my frog and go home."

We're already pushing culture and art out of existence in schools. Now you want an obscure band of punk kids to rule judgement over placement of a sculpture in a public area because you think they may claim it as their mascot? Coward! Go back and hide in your bathtub.

I agree that this is the most ridiculous story I've read this year. I can't believe there are nimbys over a 3 foot frog that won't even affect 99.9999 percent of the city. The guy should give the sculpture to a neighboring city that can use a little more whimsy in their depressed community and that will appreciate the sentimental meaning and generous gesture. Let the nimbys return to their bland, over protective, over analyzed lifestyle.

Why not put it in front of the Rodium swap meet? That is another beautiful Torrance site.

Well, I guess if a kid falls off the statue that will teach him not to climb on statues, now, won't it?

Thank you for publishing the names of the chronic complainers who object to this statue. Now would you please publish their pictures so I can make sure I don't sit next to them in a restaurant?

Hope the artist does not mind his frog getting peed on. Mirimar Park is the unofficial "dog park" of the area. It is difficult for children to play here due to the large number of dogs running off-leash in this park. My kid has been knocked over twice by large off the leash dogs while playing next to me. I have seen dogs pee on the dolphin, the dolphin mat, the memorial plaque, baby strollers, etc. Poo is not picked up by about a third of the dog owners. I have seen dog owners verbally berate moms who complain about the off-leash dogs. Apparently, there is no enforcement of the dogs-on-a-leash law; so everyone on the city should bring their dogs here. We avoid this park now, but the dogs would enjoy a 30,000 dollar statue to mark their territory.

What a bunch of morons!! This sculpture is dontaed, FREE, to the city and the only stipulation is that it goes to this specific beach for a spicific reason. A bunch of lamebrained idiots. I really can't believe that the City Council of Torrance is sinking to the level of these dummies. Who cares where a Frog really stats. I used to live in Torrance, a couple of time, in the same area. And there is a strip of land, that has water running through it most of the year. And at certain times, the noise from the Frongs that live there is worse than rap music. But still a wonderful sculpture, donated free and these numbskulls have to artgue over it. Is there nothing else that is more important for them to argue about, or anything less important????

it's cute - kids would love it. There are frogs all over the place, who gives a crap that it's not quite the right variety. Like most people could identify an american bullfrog versus a Western Spade Foot. If you're that worried your little snowflake might get hurt falling off a frog statue, keep them at home, swathed in bubble wrap. Besides, I don't get why the park needs a beach theme - like the whole dolphin-starfish-sea horse theme hasn't been WAY overdone.

While I'm not a political fan of Walker's, I see absolutely no reason to turn down a donation like this. There's nothing wrong with "seeing frogs at the beach". My only fear now is that lamebrains and negative people will sneak around in the wee hours of the morning and vandalize the poor frog if it's at Miramar. I don't blame Dan if he takes his frog and goes home!

Most of the old fools in the vista bahia couldn't even see it anyway unless they're right on top of it. Walker was a jerk for a mayor, but,I think it's a generous gesture. I spent more than 20 years at the old Shell station and I never saw anything change in that park.
