Memorial is good at asking for "10" on their surveys before you are discharged.

Patients who frequent these hospitals should be the ones to decide the fate of these hospitals, not the board members etc.

My husband just got out of University Hosp. in Tamarac last week & I can see why it was ranked low. Forget the call button, they come when they feel like it. The Volunteer in the surgery waiting room was nice, but kept falling asleep at the desk, then couldn't remember the room number that patient was transferred to right after she had gotten it to give to me. I needed help from the Security Guard to look for something & lady at front desk said to forget him in helping me as he "is not very nice".
The "patient" can't pick what hosp. they want to go to, that's up to the insurance & where that Dr. does his surgery so what good is the survey when one can't go where they wish? Yes, it should help a hospital in knowing their rating & try to improve upon it, but do they?

University Hospital wasn't very good but the rehab. center they recommended was ten times worse. Any patient not monitored constantly by a family member has a very high probability of injury or death due to understaffing and rushing, uncaring nursing aides with anger management issues.

Look at the ratings -- both Boca Community and West Boca hospitals are in the survey. The reporter chose to not include data from either in his story. Perhaps the Palm Beach Post will cover Palm Beach County more thoroughly.

I noticed that Broward General and Cleveland Clinic were not participants. They are really good hospitals. Each of them has their own problems but they all do. I think the worst thing about nearly all hospitals is "the lack of communication" within the hospital itself. The pateient to urse ratio needs to be improved a lot. Those nurses are spread out with too many patients. They are worked to death.

Every contact I've had with any of the Memorial Hospitals in Broward County has been excellent. I've had my gall bladder out and Memorial Hospital West and it was like staying at a hotel - that's how good they were. My husband and I have had colonoscopy/endoscopy at Mem Hosp West also - once again, excellent excellent excellent. It was almost like going to a spa, for heaven's sake. Every time I have to go for a mammogram, I'm treated so considerately. The hospitals are beautiful, well cared for - and the staff are magnificent. In this day and age of HMOs and bad medical care, the Memorial Hospitals in Broward County are wonderful.

The surveys sound accurate to me. I heard negative reports about Westside Regional from friends. These were not minor issues like bringing water on time but death after routine surgery. My husband had care forced on him and other care refused for over a day because he did not agree with their plan. We all need to be proactive in our health care and look for quality care.

Beware of local-yokel hospitals like the low performers mentioned here. The doctors are community practice types whose experience is really more like that of a nurse who is skilled at writing prescriptions. You would not want them in charge of your mortal existence in a real medical situation, as they simply would not know what to do. Better to go to an impersonal clinic at a major center where they are experts in your problem.

I picked Memorial Miramar to have my daughter at and all I can say is that "that is the BEST hospital EVER." They know how to care for their patients and its clean, attentive and everyone is nice... Its great!!! I hope it doesn't change!

University Hospital is a butcher shop where doctors bury their mistakes. It needs to be shut down. Make it a dog park.

Wellington Regional Medical Center's rating is about right. I was just there and the shower did not have hot water. Between 8pm to 10pm, it was so noisy at the hallway that I had to close my room's door to sleep. And every morning, the doctor on duty came by for a minute just to ask me how I was feeling. He never told me the results of all the tests they did to me until I complained.

Good article, but as usual, the internet site highlighted by the newspaper (under the article itself) on page one) is unfriendly to use. I wanted Broward County results in the same simple to read format as the Palm Beach hospitals in my edition. Good Luck? I gave up, and it is not the first time the Sun-Sentinal sites have been less that useful.

Well said. I would add that patient care is compromised on weekends too. Most of the time you are "just waiting", until the week begins.
