What's the statute of limitations for desertion?
If there's no limit, Dubya ought to be prosecuted for deserting the Alabama Air National Guard.

I almost feel sorry for this kid, because I know that some people are just not cut out for the military. With that being said, he did enlist and needs to honor his contract. Toss him in jail for a while and then let the kid get on with his life.

do realize it wasn't a Killing War. And by the Grace of God, cooler heads prevailed.. 99% of the time anyway.
At times the Military svcked the Big One then too.
But we were all volunteers and realized we had an obligation to our buddies, our unit, our Nation.
The deserter here took the criminal way out. There are other options he could have chosen. But he broke the law of the USMCJ. And you learn very quickly that it's very different than civilian law.
All he did by deserting is leave his buddies behind.
And after all, he volunteered during wartime.
So let the chips fall where they will for him.
I'm also guessing that eventually there'll have to be a Draft.
I'd say that there'd be a lot of resistance to that idea.
All in all this appears to be a very poorly, long-term planned war.
That said ....To all my brothers in the 11TH ACR.

I just thougt I would let you know that I was there and worked with men who were chained for over 5 years for wanting to go to school. I may disagree with alot of things about this war, but think stupid, if it was for oil, where is it for us? P.S. Nobody stepped into Germany in the beginning of WW2, and 10 million ended up horribly murdered. And dont ever say that these men who have fought for their country has never won a war. We dont choose the fights, we fight them. You would not like it if your family was being killed and we said we did not want to fight for you. You cannot say I want to be a fire fighter but I don't want to fight fires. That said, this man cannot say I want to be in the military where I get free food, clothing, housing, medical care and money for school but I don't want to fight. This man volunteered to serve in the military and he signed a contract. The contract I'm sure does not say he can choose which wars he wants to fight in and which wars he does'nt. He forfeited those rights when he again volunteered to serve in the military.
