This was a very tragic event for my family and I. I will never forget the day that a cop had to pick me up from school and tell me my mother had been shot 4 times by the man who was supposed be my father figure. I could never forgive someone who has that cold of a heart to take someone's life...no matter the reason behind it. He deserves more than 5 years...in the Powell County Jail system! He's not even in a prison...how about that. Money does talk.

You are absolutely right money does talk. I feel that no one deserves to be murdered unless they have harmed a child or another human being. May your mother Rest in Peace. I hope this guy has a miserable life and gets everything possible done to him physically and mentally while in jail.

I don't know Mr Meadows but I went to school with Sam and her sister Nora was a good friend of mine! Sad loss! I don't know the situation behind her death but I know there are better ways to solve disagreements! How about just walking away from it??????

Yea, let's see. She had a horrible drug habit, had run Larry well into debt (Money issue my ass, Larry doesn't have a dime to his name), had pulled a gun on him several times...and through all of this, he never once even raised a hand to her.

What did happen to cause him to react this way? He had just filed for divorce. And if I had to guess, I'm guessing Sam didn't take it very well and probably threatened him, or his family.

I'd bet money Larry wasn't the only one with a gun in that house when things got heated.

Yes maybe he wasn't the only one with a gun , but taking a life is pretty drastic i would think .This is yuor classic example of kill someone and get little or no time , but steal food to feed your family and you get a free trip up the road for umteen years. It also applies to drunk drivers who kill and are basicly let off with a slap on the wrist .Goes to show the human lives are worthless anymore . Such a sad ordeal for anyone to go through .We need laws that cover everyone not a chosen few .

What would you do if you found out that the person you had loved for many years had an unkickable drug habit (so bad that once they actually shot themselves in the shoulder to get more prescriptions)? What would you do if that drug habit had reduced your loved one to commiting adultry? What would you do if that drug habit made your loved one slam her daughter's hand in the door, nearly breaking it? What would you do if the next day her daughter called you asking you to leave work and come over and try to calm Mom down? What would you do if, when you got there, you had argued so long that you told her you were going that instant to file for a divorce? What would you do if she told you that she would kill you and everone in your family before she would let you divorce her? What would you do when she pulled a loaded gun out, aimed it at your head, and cocked it? What would you do...?

I agree with the daughter. I had been in this house many of times, and despite the many promblems that she had.. larry had just as many. She was a great mother and friend. Yea larry's money did get him out of it. He deseves to spend LIFE in prison for what he did.

Daughter, I hope one day you find peace with all of this, being from PC and knowing the politic of of who you know in the community, and how much money you have. This is why your dad got off so easy. Drug problem or not, from word of mouth Larry had just as many drug problems as she did... just in her case maybe she had a little mental illness to. Which in my opinion could have been treated if mr meadows would have gotten her the treatment she needed. But instead he treated it himself, with a gun. Way to go Dr. Meadows.... a note to him----

Like it or not, the facts are the facts. No one likes to admit a wrong, and who likes to speak of the dead, who cannot speak for themselves?! This is why Larry Meadows plead guilty to reckless homicide, not murder. He avoided publicly humiliating his deceased wife's name and her family by disclosing personal information about her drug use, adultery, and verbal abuse. Larry raised this woman's children from the time they were small. He gave them everything they had. He was their dad. One of the daughters had even moved out because she hated her mother's lowdown ways. Sure, taking someone's life is wrong, but if you were faced in a heated, terrifying situation, you don't know what you would do. If Larry Meadows, pillar of the Clay City community, can break down and do this, ANYONE can! It is a shame that our tax dollars are being wasted on him being in jail. He is worthless to the community while he is in jail. He has given so much to our community in his lifetime, and he wasn't the one with drugs in his system when this event occurred. While this will never be settled, justice will be served when Larry is released from jail on Sept. 30. Drugs are horrible things, and they are so prevalent in our community. This goes to show you that no matter if you've never taken a drug in your life, drugs can ruin your life. Larry, Powell County loves you and will always support you!

That woman was a human being regardless of the problems she had, she could have gotten help and if he had been a decent husband that loved his wife and children he should have walked away and got help for them all!

Perhaps we all should look at this situation and say to ourselves.. "THERE BY THE GRACE OF GOD GO I".. Drugs, adultry, confusion, children being hurt.... Oh we can look from the outside and pass judgement or speak our minds. BUT in the end we need to remember we are humans with a heart that breaks with great pain and the mind can snap with the burden of that pain. Its not about decency here its about how much can the human body and its brain can tolerate.

Again lets not be so quick to point fingers unless we have walked in the same shoes of the accused.
