A judgement was made against Vaughan.....“I think the surprising thing is, for some people, that you are not really anonymous when you make these comments,” Cooper said.“They can be traced back at least to the computer.”

Anderson said Vaughan never answered the lawsuit filed against him and did not appear in court for Wednesday’s hearing.

Cooper awarded Cox $25,000 in punitive damages,$25,000 in compensatory damages and $5,000 for attorney’s fees.

“We’ll have a try and collect it,” Anderson said. How?“It depends on what assets he has.”

Anybody can sue anybody for anything. This is no different. If I sue you and if you don't show up for court then I win, case closed, but I doubt you have anything I would want.
As soon as this guy goes to court this case will be dismissed and the guy has the opportunity to counter sue for any damages. These types of cases are what give all lawyers a bad name. Money grubbing schisters. Keep following this case and you will see that nothing will ever come of it. It could take years and years, all for nothing.

omg do you guys not realize that you CAN indeed become completely untraceable if you wanted to.

its called an http proxy while utilizing an access point at a local hotel while sitting in their parking lot from a computer with an external usb wireless adapter to give you a random mac address.

i mean come on seriously. its not all that hard.

i could make my http proxy come from russia (which will mean that once my ip is retrieved through a court order from topix) they will have to contact the proxy providor in russia. then once that happens (if they can even get involved with russian diplomats in order to get a court order to trace all the way over there) then once contacted they in turn would need to give you the ip in which the proxy service aquired.... which of course is none other than a random hotel with open wifi.... lol. and then even if they think (well thats ok, we got the wifi log from the hotel, lets snag the mac address and run a local search with the local isp's to find out if anyone else is logging on with this mac address (but oops remember you bought an external usb wireless adapter which you WILL NOT be using at your house.) lol geesh... and i dont work for any special agency but yet i could hide myself better than a needle in a hay stack lmao :P

Hey smart guy, the case is closed, that's why the victim was awarded $55,000. And think about this. If your computer shows almost every time, and at approximately the same time it was used to defame someone there was legitimate usage by the owner taking place, then that's good enough evidence. It may be circumstantial evidence, but this is a civil suit, not a murder case, and that's more than enough for a conviction!

There is a similar situation brewing in one of the Tennessee forums. A guy killed himself and the trolls have battered the family and friends to no end. One of the registered users whom I have become friends with on Topix is a family member, which they are looking into what can be done legally to find the poster or posters posting all kinds of crap on his family. I hope people do read your link, the trolls cannot hide behind their keyboards much longer as people are doing something about it.

That is a shame that cruel, miserable, hateful people are using such a great forum as Topix to hurt others that way. I dream of a day that trolls and troublemakers vanish from Topix. Even if my dreaming is in vain, I will still dream. I love Topix. I wish the bullies and the hate-mongers would quit trying to mess it up and make it unpleasant for us all.

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Cancer

Try to get out and about today because it will do you good to have a change of scene. Even you, a home-loving Cancerian, can start to feel stale and bored if you're stuck in one place for too long, so try to vary your surroundings as much as possible today. Social events will go well, too, and you'll enjoy talking to people who make you think.
