I'm kinda new in town, I can't imagine too many people are happy with this- how do you all feel about this?

I am all for it. Jobs, growth, more people buying homes in Pahrump and a proven safe way to store old nuke material

The knee jerk liberals hate it because "What if what if what if" but if something were able to penetrate that mountain and then the bunker inside, I would think we were screwed already before anything leaks.

Many spread disinformation about it because they are not intelligent enough to understand how it works.

I'm all for job creation in and around Pahrump, and I'm FAR from being a bleeding heart. The safety of it is my main concern, accidents do happen- and no one else seems to want it in their backyard. Is the area near a fault line? Also, from what I've read, some of the waste can last up to 10,000 years- I've even heard of it lasting up to 25,000 years.

Wow. I didn't know there already WAS a nuclear repository in operation for generations housing this stuff? Proven by whom? The contractor winning the bid to build it? That's convenient......

BTW, I'm a Conservative in THIS regard and am aware of the radioactive ranch wells already poisoned and being capped and hushed up in the same areas. These poisoned wells were also a result of "proven & safe ways" to detonate and dispose of atomic bomb making materials in the 50s and 60s. Check out the deserted ranches east of I-95 north of Beatty to Goldfield and how it looks as though the FedGov land has now moved right up to the highway.

The FedGov COULD buy my acquiescence on the project for a few grand a year, guaranteed clean water forever, and continued healthcare! Think of it as an Alaskan pipeline stipend for Nye County residents!

"Proven & safe way".......LOL.....OK

Black Star, I agree. Something like the Alaskan dividend check for the people would probably go a long way in this economy. Of course, being a recipient of some sort of dividend check probably relieves the government for any accidents/wrongdoings- just a thought. It's always good to hear from the people who have been here awhile, to get the real stories of how things work or have been done.

The filth that detonated those things and then made the soldiers walk through the radioactive dust should be rounded up and shot.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Sagittarius

Don't be surprised if a member of the family is unpredictable or does things on the spur of the moment today. There's nothing to worry about because they won't do anything too alarming or disruptive. In fact, their actions will be like a breath of fresh air and they may even help you to escape from a current rut. So don't hesitate to be that little bit different yourself, either.
