Any good coming from the superferry? Yes, it clearly shows the Hawaiian people the true colors of our "representatives", the governor and legislators. A governor who has abandoned her oath to the people of Hawaii by using her political position to enrich her business cronies to the point of trying to usurp the authority of our justice system and at the expense of all of Hawaii's people, present and future. And the legislatures who knowingly cause a rift with the judiciary by their attempts at political expediency. Such abuses of power will not long stand with the good people of Hawaii.

"usurp the authority of our justice system"

Gee I must have missed that in school. Tell me again what the job of the justice system is again? I thought it was to interpet laws and it was the job of the legislature to write or ammend those laws. The governor, being part of the executive branch, does neither....however the elected officials where put there by the MAJORIY to represent them and come next election can be replaced if the MAJORITY think they are not doing their jobs.

Hawaiian people have always been loyal Americans. They have been childtren of the land and loyal stewards of the same. When trust that is placed with elected officials is violated, when ideals that keiki have learned are corrupted; the land and seas protest. Deeper faults and transgressions are revealed. Hawaiians have quietly, loyaly, and respectfuly, have spoken. The 'aina, heavens, and seas, can only answer back.

Willie, when the State Supreme Court decides that an EA is required that decision is based on the law. When Judge Cordoza decides that there is a "condition precedent" requiring an EA be completed prior to the superferry's entrance that is based on the law. For the governor to initiate and the legislature to change an enviromental law for the sole purpose of satisfying one private business's profit margin over the enviromental risks it causes reeks of injustice.

This is an example of big buisness controlling the future of our lives. The politicians are just a bunch of puppets. It is all part of the New World Order. We are just the pawns in thier game to control us all.

So laws never need tweeking? Dred Scott lost in the Supreme Court too so in myst havebeen an injustice to eventally pass laws banning slavery.

BTW they are not changing the law for one business, they are just modifying it slightly so they can operate while the EA is being done. I know this means the ferry will be runing instead of going bankrupt as most antis want it to...but this is what the legislature is paid to do...make those kinds of decisions. There would be NO profit margin if they did not tweek the law. Give it a chance, it will probably be a poor 9nvestment anyway but let it fail on it's own and not on some trumped up worries. The SuperFerry is a dripping faucet in a house that is burning down..don't worry about the drip, put out the fire (like over development for one).

Fort Lauderdale is filled with strip bars and liquor stores. You have no concept of what Hawaii is all about. I don't think you are brave enough to get on the superferry. Watch the revolution from the safety of your t.v. set.

The HSF shall sail again. The Hawaiian islands are surrounded by water, DUH! There should have been a ferry there decades ago. It's time to get with the program.

After four years of OPEN legislative actions regarding the long awaited Ferry, our legislature is now doing and completing actions that are sanctioned by OUR constituion of Hawaii, not of anyone of the states where many of the above comments originated. We operate under OUR Hawaii constitution, legally and openly. This original legislation and all since has been OPEN to the Public completely. ONLINE access to bills and committee reports are open to all! WE are the ONLY state that allows E=MAIL testimony, giving everyone a chance to voice agreement or dissent to be heard, as well as toll free phone calls from the neighbor islands to do so by free phone calls to the legislature! Addionally, every transportation type, shipping companies, plus many other businesses testitied FOR the ferry system right from the start! Plus, for some reason in this debacle of untrue statements coming from the uninformed, or just stubborn selfish dissenters, their numbers are NOT anywhere close to the Majority, who are showing their approval.(Those who criminally protested and have been shown great leniency, which should not be ignored IF the same threatened actions occur again) AGAIN. With this FERRY SYSTEM approval, the market opens for any competitor to enter, when they deem the fiscal ability for profit will be there. Many people do not realize how long many people who cannot travel by air have waited, plus those businesses that will profit from more open markets in our entire state will utilize this service. IT is NOT a one business approval, as it is written for a "FERRY System'not limited to one company. Unless you know the true facts in this long history of all who have worked diligently to make this possible,in a legal and prudent manner, then you should keep your mouths shut until you can object with true facts!

I agree. The Haoles from Oahu have spoken loudly. However the proud people of Kauai have spoke even louder. If you thought our last protest was big you ain't seen nothing yet. We currently have 1200 people ready to block the harbor entrance. 30 coast guard boats means that each boat would be responsible for dragging out 40 people each. I don't see that happening! That's not even counting the people on shore. This is our island!

I guess you cared, you replied.

It was Detroit that was the murder capital but that was years ago. You can find Detroit on a map, it is part of Michigan...just like Honolulu is part of Oahu\Hawaii.

Meanwhile, as the folks on Kauai protest a boat bringing and taking a few hundred folks a day a 323 unit condo gobbles up more open land....those folks won't be going "home" to Oahu you know...not to mention most of the places are a million or so dollars....

You say everyone was given a chance to object to the superferry and that a majority are in support of it. Were you at the protests on Kauai? Not even 1% percent of the people at the meetings were in support of it. I think it's you who doesn't have the facts. You bring up the Hawaii constitution, but the constitution is for the people, not for the government to bypass the people. "Ua mau ke ea o ka 'aina i kapono" "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness". There is nothing righteous about what the legislature is doing.

Nothing of the sort will happen. You'll be lucky if 20 idiots jump in water. And those 20 idiots will be going straight to jail. I hope you're one of them.

Matson and Young Brothers will off load approximately 1200 containers today. Some of those containers will be arriving in Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island sometime in the near future. There is a very good probability that majority of these containers have NOT been inspected by the Dept of Agriculture or any State agency. There is also a good chance that one of these containers contains an evasive species of some sort. Where’s the protest?
