The guy who must be one of Calebs drug buddies does not have a clue and needs to get his facts straight. Caleb kicked in 2 doors, tried to break into the vehicle sitting outside then slammed his head on the glass door screaming let me in before his kicked the door down as the alarm was going off and the police were on their way. He was a terrifying maniac who was warned to go away several times before he was shot. He was on drugs for a few years and no one stopped or helped him including his friends and family. I would rather see him rotting in jail for what he did but he has the easy way out. It is the lives of the family he destroyed that has to live with this nightmare forever.

This is a tragedy for both families. Barnetts family due to loosing their son and Caleb made a mistake that many of the young people are making when they go to parties. I am sure Caleb did not intend for any of this to happen. The McKinney family on the other hand was doing what anyone in this situation would do and he chose to protect his family. This whole scenario is and will be full of "what ifs" but we need to try to push it all to the side and let everyone learn something from this incident. Both families will live with this horrible nightmare in the back of their minds forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you! Mr. & Mrs. McKinney, I hate that you are being judged in such a poorly way by the community. Your first goal was to protect your family and thats what you did. Just remember time heals wounds. What may be a day to God may feel like forever but it God's time everything will be for the best. Mr & Mrs. Barnett even though your son is gone try to embrace on the good things about him and know one day you will meet again and he is not suffering like many people do when an incident like this occurs. I pray each night that Caleb knew God and you all will meet again one day.

madd1 wrote: Caleb was not the perfectly behaved young man that his friends would lead you to believe. The McKinney's had EVERY right to defend themselves and their property, and exercised great restraint in doing so. Rather than 1 bullet to the arm, any intruder would have gotten more than that many bullets by busting into my home and refusing to leave. The Barnetts buried Caleb by the road in the cemetary at the end of the McKinney's drive. And now there is a fund raiser for the Barnett family....What the hell is that all about? To glorify his drug addiction and terrorism of an innocent family? How will the McKinney family - the REAL victims - be compensated for the anguish this has caused for them? Caleb is also buried by his parents and they arent trying to glorify drug use the Barnett and Mckinney family are working together to talk about the effects of drugs use from both family standpoints. I grew up with Caleb and he was a good kid he was doing what most teens do, experiment. It is sad for all involved so out of respect you think you wouldnt talk shit on here what if it was your son, brother or friend?

I understand what your saying in the Bible it says noone has the right to judge others. If most everyone would look in their closets they would find their families are not to perfect either. Keep your chin up and one day you will be with Caleb again. We can't live in the past or we can never move on with the future.

It's not up to us to judge who was Who was right or who was wrong. That's in GOD's Hands. But, to all who have posted a comment..........Try walking in the homeowner's shoes. In your mind, place yourself in the very same position as the McKinney family. Just WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?????? My prayers go out to both families.
