BOSTON (Reuters)- Diversified U.S. manufacturer Honeywell International Inc (HON.N) boosted its full-year earnings target after reporting a first-quarter profit that topped Wall Street's expectations.

Revenue rose 2.7 percent as a recovery in the global auto market sparked demand for turbochargers and a pickup in global industrial production drove up sales of control and measurement equipment for factories.

"There is clear evidence things are getting better," Dave Cote, chief executive officer of the world's largest maker of cockpit electronics, said on a conference call with analysts. "We're seeing order growth across all of our businesses."

Honeywell said on Friday that it expected 2010 profit of $2.30 to $2.45 per share, up from a prior view of $2.20 to $2.40.

The new forecast amounts to growth of 4 percent to 9 percent, factoring out the effects of a pensions-related accounting charge, Cote said.

Wall Street had expected full-year earnings of $2.42 a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

While the midpoint of the new forecast is below consensus, Deutsche Bank analyst Nigel Coe pointed out that the company had described it as conservative.

"It is clear that (Honeywell) has given themselves plenty of room for maneuver," Coe wrote in a note to clients.

The company warned sales growth may slow later this year.

"It's still too soon to assume the early cycle upticks from the first quarter will continue at the same pace," Chief Financial Officer Dave Anderson said on the conference call.

Honeywell shares were down 1 percent at $46.97, pulling back from an 18-month high of $47.46 hit on Thursday.

STRONG QUARTER FOR INDUSTRIALS

Honeywell joins a string of big U.S. manufacturers to post better-than-expected results over the past week, with United Technologies Corp (UTX.N), Textron Inc (TXT.N) and Eaton Corp (ETN.N) also topping Wall Street forecasts.

Results have not been uniformly good, though. Companies with heavy exposure to nonresidential construction still feel a drag on earnings. Ingersoll-Rand Plc (IR.N), which makes heating and cooling systems, on Friday posted a quarterly profit below Wall Street's expectations.

Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N) and 3M Co (MMM.N) are due to report their financial results next week.

PROFIT DOWN 2.8 PCT

Morris Township, New Jersey-based Honeywell's quarterly earnings fell 2.8 percent to $386 million, or 50 cents per share, from $397 million, or 54 cents per share, a year earlier. Analysts had expected 47 cents.

Revenue rose 2.7 percent to $7.78 billion.

Profit at the automation and control solutions unit -- which makes products ranging from home thermostats to systems to manage large commercial buildings -- was up 24 percent on a 4 percent rise in sales.

A surge in Asian demand for automotive turbochargers also boosted results.

"What we saw is very strong growth in China, very strong growth in Korea," Anderson said in an interview.

Honeywell set a second-quarter profit target of 53 cents to 57 cents per share, with sales seen up 3 percent to 7 percent.

The company's competitors include United Tech in aerospace and building control systems, Goodrich Corp (GR.N) in aviation and DuPont Co (DD.N) in specialty materials.

Africanamerican, I suggest if you have a problem with racism you take it up with one of them that has been bashing the union so bad on here Underground. He seems to share your views on everything except race. Look at his posts under the topic Beth Bradley on here. He said about Paula Bridges, a beautiful talented newscaster I might add, but Underground said "Nothing worse than a monkey trying to speak the white mans language." Look at his other posts about her also. Thats just a small taste of his comments. Despicable.

typical, trying to distract the fact that Honeywell discriminates against blacks. I hope they do. I'm entitled to believe that most blacks are useless. Almost useless as a union worker

Well it appears that this lock out has gone on alot longer than I ever expected I am missing my family while being forced to stay here in this plant. It seems Morris Town is even more blind with their hourly workers than they are with us the company people. All other companies are reinstating the 401K match and giving pay raises that was not handed out last year, but Honeywell is still dragging the old ball and chain on this.
I know that hard feelings will be unavoidable after this is resolved for the local company workers and the union workers again Morris Town flys in here then they fly right back out and does not take any of this into consideration. It is a shame that this company continues to not do right by it's employees this is evident with the high turn over rate of first line supervisors.
I hope this all ends soon for both sides!

Let me start off by saying that I support the
USW in Metropolis. I agree that Honeywell
Has given them the raw end of a deal. You
Fight for yourself, family and health, and they
Lock you out. I have been working since I was
15 almost 16 years now. I have been a member of the UFCW union, Carpenters Union and Laborers Union just to name a few.
I hope they get to go back to work and provide for there families
I know I shouldn't say this but yes I do work
For one of the security companies there. I took this job to get off of unemployment and food stamps.
Its hard to keep a job where you get yelled at everyday or night.
I'm here for the same thing....my kids child support.
What most do realize is that when the USW goes
Back to work...I don't have a job. This job is temporary. Then what?
Just want to know why I'm the bad guy?

usw supporter you are not the bad guy. These men and women who are locked would do the same thing to you if the tables were turned. Honeywell Manager its not NJ that creates all the BS at MTW. Its guys like Jeff Smith, Joe Dodd and others who want to climb to the top. All they have to do is treat the workers right and the work will get done. How can you hold workes accountable when departments cant get along. Production and maintenance always passing the blame back and forth. Jeff Smith does not know half of what he thinks he does. Tommy should fire his ass and find someone who has Honeywell in their best intrest.

USW supporter, I don't think anyone thinks of you as the bad guy. The local guards at Honeywell are also union, and we understand they have a job to do.Extra security, such as yourself, has been brought in during this lockout. Hopefully Securitas will appreciate you and have a position for you in the area once all is settled.

So why do I get called names that would make a sailor blush. I'm just looking out for my boys. Why do I have a mirror.
Shined in my face. Would like to get an answer from a USW . Just wondering for my self.

USW Supporter I can see your point but these union people are being treated as if they are criminals even before the were locked out.Honeywell put them into the lunchroom with gaurds on them as if they were going to tear something up.You are being called names because you took a job and are crossing a picket line not because of the job your doing.I say if everyone was unionized and went back to skilled labores for all jobs and had an agreement not to cross pickets at all this America would change.

I agree with the wrong doing of honeywell. I also know about crossing picket lines. I just have to look out for my kids, then me. Just wish some of them would see that. We weant to move on to the next job just as much as the USW wants to get back to work. Would be nice if they laid off of us for a bit. I know we have a few bad apples to but most of us are neutral about the whole thing.

USW supporter, while I respect your reasons for doing the job you are doing surely you knew that you were crossing a picket line and what that entailed. Like HDOC said, we were assigned guards and as Tommy Barnes put it "adult supervision" before the lockout ever occured. We had supervisors following us around on every job just waiting for someone to do something. All we did was show up for work and do our jobs. People are fed up and you had to know it was going to be like that. What did you expect when you are taking pictures, video taping, and writing down every move made on the line? Your colleagues have done nothing to make us welcome you. When its family day on the line and one of your people is making an obscene gesture with a banana in front of our wives and children dont look for us to treat you with respect. I personally dont like you taking my picture and taping me on the line so if someone shines a mirror in your face then so be it. You will have a job when this is over at another plant where the same thing is going on. You can go cross another picket line where I'm sure you will be subjected to the same type of things you are now. I'm sorry, I just dont sympathize with you. I wish you well when you leave here but as long as you are surveilling us, people who have done nothing, then dont hold your breath waiting on the welcome wagon.

Never said there was anything wrong. I'm all about a black chick that knows how to act and doesn't have hair that looks like a brillo pad. I've seen many many attractive black ladies, but the vast majority are flat nauseating. That's why black guys go for white chicks-the chunky nasty ones usually it seems.

HDOC, there you go again talking about changing America. You, Obama and all the liberals talked about "change" last year. Look where it's put us. Let's get back to conservative ideals and away from socialism like what you're promoting. USW Supporter, you should be very proud of what you're doing. It takes a man of great courage to go against the tide to do what is right for he and his family. Especially when you are belittled, ostracized and threatened by those union members. Sometimes a man has to take chances and see what he can really acheive without the assistance of government entitlements and union jobs. It's then he realizes what he's really worth. Keep working, look for opportunities, try and start your own business, just don't sit and expect anyone to hand you anything. Go earn it!! You'll get so much farther in life, I promise you.

I am so sure that the previous four years had nothing to do with the way our economy is right? It has come out before now that all bank failures was on a role to needing bailed out. It is us the working class tax payers that have to repay the frigin debts that the over zealous spending and earning ceo's of the financial establishments have pissed away. So yeah it is time for a change for you over spending creatures of habit to be grounded back to the earth.here we go again if you read my previous post about the rate of pay vs. minimum wage that is why union need to be established to protect the working class people. You are getting me totally confused about wanting socialism I want people to get up and work however, I want it to be fair for the workers it is easier for the gov. to hand you a check now days than it is for someone to earn a living. For instance a single mother making 7.15 an hour and pay for healthcare it is not worth her working and continue to try and make a living because our gov. will pay her and healthcare for her and her kid at the cost of the tax payers.Who is paying for it?You and me!Not the the corporations that is making billions.
