The physical plants is going to be impressive in and itself. Dividing students into five schools for core classes has made a great success in other schools, and I think it will work well at McCracken. I also read they will have facilities for every sport kshaa(sp?) recognizes.

I went to a consolidated school and it was a mess. Most of us were a number. Hate to say it but anytime you have more than 2000 students in a school, that is close to 500 in a class and divide that into how many will be in a class. I would say 35-40 students in a class and if your kid is struggling than they will struggle and not get the help. I will be sending my kids to PTHS-academically, the county schools can not compete with Tilghman. I say that because they have top scores all the time. They may not brag about them like the county schools do but they are there plus they offer tons of honors and AP classes!

County school's test scores are way better than city, elementary through high. In fact, county schools scored higher to much higher in ALL areas. See for yourself here: http://www.greatschools.org/school-comparison... You go ahead and send your kids to an average (if that) school, while I will be sending mine to a great school where they will get a top quality education. Jeez, get your information correct before making such ridiculous claims.

My kids went to the city schools and were well prepared for college and have successful careers. I would put Tilghman's education curriculum against any other school. I am not saying anything against the county schools, I think we are lucky to have two good public school districts in McCracken County. I'm just saying test scores don't tell the whole story. There are great students in both districts.

My high school offered French, Spanish, German & Latin. Smaller public schools cannot offer this variety of languages. We also had a campus newspaper, published once a week and printed on a real press at the school. PE classes Included archery, tennis, field hockey, gymnastics and swimming. We had a greenhouse--on the fourth floor. There are some things that can be done in a bigger public school, or a pricey private school, but not smaller public school. Besides, you can be part of the problem or part of the solution. It's your choice.

PTHS has more honor classes, AP classes, a NJROTC program that has received distinguished unit for the past 8-9 years and is the only unit in Ky. to win this award and beat schools out that have been around a lot longer. Has an award winning newspaper, yearbook awards and academics plus athletics. Hate to tell you but PTHS is not average, it is anything but average. $4.2 million in scholarships doesn't make it an average school. Bigger is not going to mean better- as much as many would like to see it, there will be more problems, and yes, cliques are in every school. Most of the graduates from PTHS are very successful. They have a Nobel Prize Winner, a potential Olympic champion and others who have succeded.

Think about it wrote: School consolidation never comes easy, but it comes out all right in the end. Maybe the new school can't have as many on, say, the football team, but there may be other sports and extra-curricular activities than smaller schools can't provide. At any rate, this is the situation that has to be dealt with now. I hope that the adults will decide to encourage school unity. Every school was new at some point. You sound like one of the school board members who failed to listen to the public, the parents, administrators, or anyone else that disagreed with this consolidation. No way is this fair to the kids in Reidland, who will no doubt risk their lives on I 24 just to go to school. EVERY ONE OF THOSE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS NEEDS TO BE UNSEATED. Their denial and dismissal of everyone's opinions reeks of dishonesty and corruption. You keep telling yourself this was the best option and I'll call you full of shat every time. Lone Oak was supposed to get the new school, but someone thought they could make some quick money selling some high real estate to the county. Heath and Lone Oak have the best athletes, so Reidland loses that too. I hope they hire coaches from out of state to the school so school favoritism is out the window.

I was never for the consolidated school and not anyone that I know was either. I don't think we were really given a choice. My child will be a senior when it opens and I dread the day. I went to a local county school and moved to a large school my senior year and it was terrible. The differences are to many to say. There was no sense of a closeness with the large classes and u never really had a feeling of real friendships. I have had the same friends since kindergarten, and high school and our close class made my memories of high school unforgettable. It's not all about sports and AP classes, it's having a sense of a second family, which at that age is important. I think we need to step back on pushing our kids to excel so much in everything and let them be kids. They have their whole life to work and be the best. We expect so much from kids today and I'm pretty happy I got the chance to be a kid when I was one and excel at life when I was grown. And don't come back at me saying if we don't push them now they won't excel later! That's bull! I think parents are way to involved in the kids lives now to the point that when it's time to make life decisions they don't know what the crap to do without someone telling them. I'm glad I grew up in the time that I did. No Internet, social networks, we went outside to play in the summer and had to drive around at night to see what was going on with everyone. No cellphones!!! This new school might be good for some but probably not for most.

There were so many open meetings about this subject and at everyone, parents were telling that they did not want this new school but the board members had their minds made up way before the meetings and the land was land owned by one of the board members wives and her family-how unethical and corrupt is that? I still say that bigger is not going to be better and students who struggle will get lost in the shuffle. If this school is so great, how come students are enrolling in PTHS, Ballard and Marshall? Those 3 schools have seen an increase in enrollment from students who would normally go to RHS, LO and HHS. Why, because parents did not want to send kids to the new school and they don't want their kid to become a number.
