So did everyone see the test scores in the newspaper yesterday? We either beat or was right behind Prague in every test area but one! Our GPA was one point better than theirs, and our ACT scores was just under theirs. I want to say way to go to the students and teachers, and a TAKE THAT, to all people who think Prague is just "so much better." Yes we are smaller, but we make do with what we have and we should be proud of that.

I didn't get a chance to see it.But, I'm very proud of Paden. My boys used to go to Prague and it was crazy. Since they've gone to Paden both have made tremendous improvement. The oldest was in the Top 5 and was so proud of himself. He used to call himself a dumby. With paden he no longer thinks he's dumb. Paden teachers are great!!They know how to push your kids hard enough while not being MEAN. I think the teachers he had at Prague were to worried about being their FRIEND. Being a friend to your students is fine but when it intrudes upon your AUTHORITY it does no good. Paden knows how to balances the 2 beautifully IMO. 3 cheers for Paden Schools! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip horray!Hip hip hooray!

Whatever!!! I'm proud that the kids tested well, but it is not good enough. There is always room for improvement. Paden is so easy, that's why your kids do better at Paden than they do at Prague. Paden teachers do not push the kids hard enough. I think the kids should have at least an hour of homework a night, last year my kid did not bring home any homework. I want my child to be challenged and she definitely does not get that at Paden. They really need to raise their standards. I wish there was something I could do about this...any suggestions????

My son both had homework nightly. Maybe your daughter was just saying she didn't have homework. My boys ARE doing better regardless of how hard you think the teachers push students. I SEE the difference in their work.Maybe you should discuss challenging her more with her teacher this year.It helped me last year with my oldest. My oldest needs extra work so he won't finish before the others and try to show them and disrupt class for the teacher. He has ADD and the extra work keeps him outta the teachers hair so she can help those that need it.

You do realize these "scores" were from the exact same tests right? So Paden is easier is why we scored just as good or better then Prague in all but one subjects? That makes no sense. The ACT is also not different for each school, so how do you explain this one too? Or did all the Paden kids all just get lucky and get "easy" tests somehow?

This can not be said about the whole school or all Paden teachers! I know of one teacher that gets complaints of giving too much homework out! Plus, homework really helps that much? What are the kids doing at school for 8 hours a day? Personally I dont think they should be given homework. Did you like homework? Yes if kids dont get the work done at school they should have to take it home but otherwise NO!
My schedule when i was a senior in school was this(and keep in mind Paden now starts at 8:10 and gets out at 3:10)
7 or 7:30 Get up and get dressed.
8:30-3:00 School, only a 30 min lunch and 5 between classes.(LUNCH TIME IS NOW SHORTER TOO)
3:00-6:30 I worked
7:00 I got home, eat dinner which is about 30 mins
Shower and get ready for bed takes 45 min or so.
And Teens are supposed to get AT LEAST 8 HOURS OF SLEEP which means I would have needed to go to bed at 11.
That leaves a grand total of around 3 HOURS each night during the week I would have to do what I wanted. And then homework on top of that, depending on how much homework, subtract a hour, thats 2 hours to yourself!
That is not enough time!
So long story short, Kids DO NOT NEED HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT!

I agree with the no homework deal. MY sons usually have so much that we work on it from the time they come home until bedtime at 8:30. It's 8:30 now because they try to stay up playing for an hour or so still the little energizer bunnies that they are. But we as a family get no real time together. We eat dinner as a family. Any activities we do fall during the weekend so we actually have real quality time instead of doing work all the time. It's helped their grades but it's taken away from how close we are. We get so frustrated with their work(us & the kids) we all end up irritated with each other for a bit. Paden IS a good school with GOOD teachers.

I didn't say the tests were easier, I meant that the school work is easier. I don't know why they tested better than Prague, but I am very proud of them for that. I do know for a fact that Prague school work is harder than Paden. They have way more to offer the children. I am not a fan of Prague though. I actually hate Prague, but I want my children to have every opportunity to learn as much as they can, even if that means sucking it up and sending them to Prague, then that's what I will have to do. But for now they will have to stay in Paden.

Yes, EXACTLY! I as well wanted to mention that! There is nothing better for our children than FAMILY TIME!!! That is why some of the kds now days have problems with drugs, alcohol, and other things, because their family is just too busy for each other that the kids have to go somewhere else to get that attention and what not. Now Im not saying having homework leads to that stuff, so dont come back with that at me, but I'am saying it does take away from family time!

And hey homework does stress out the parents too, which can lead THEM to having to use drugs and alcohol to get rid of the stress...(Im just trying to be funny, but seriously, it is stressful for us as well.)

OMG!!!! Homework can be family time. Don't any of you help your kids with their homework??? What's wrong with you people??? When you sit down and do homework with your kids isn't that spending time with them??? DUH!!!! My daughter never brought homework home, but I would make up homework for her to do and we would sit down TOGETHER and do her times tables, or I would teach her division or read books together. To me that is family time, what do you call family time? Watching tv? And when we aren't doing that, we go outside and we would practice softball or basketball or skateboarding. I teach my children that learning is fun!!! And not just learning books but learning athletic stuff. I don't know about you guys but I want the best for my kids and I want them to be the best, so I push them to be!!!!! You guys act like their isn't this thing called weekends and summer and fall and winter breaks.

You do not work on homework from 3:30 til 8:30 that's five hours. I know who your kids are and I have family with kids in the same class and they do not have 5 hours of homework a night ever. You are a LIAR!!! The only way you work on homework til 8:30 is if you start late.

Learning is one of the most important things in my kids lives. I guess that's why my kids will be the valedictorian and not yours.

There is no such thing as ADD. I really hope you don't have your son on the medicine they prescribe for ADD. That stuff is awful for kids. If you do you should take twice as much as you give your son and then see how you feel. I bet you won't give it to your kid anymore.

I work with 2 boys on homework while also tending to my 2 small daughters and cooking dinner, discussing the day with my hubby, attending visitors, etc. Grow up a bit dear. No one here is lying about the homework situation that would be pointless and stupid.

Homework is homework. Family time is discussing the days events or those to come. Family time is discusss our hopes and dreams and how to fulfill them. Family time is going camping or skating. It is going to the park or for a walk. It is playing hide and seek or throwing the ball back and forth. Family time is watching OU football together while eating the good food we just cooked TOGETHER.Family time is just snuggling under covers while we watch silly cartoons and laugh together.

Tell that to the behavioral health Doctors. He WAS taking meds for it but has become able to control himself better on his own. That stuff is awful when used incorrectly or when not prescribed to you.

As a teacher (and no I don't teach in Paden, but know many who do and was educated there) I have mixed feelings about homework. First research indicates that children at lower levels do not truly benefit from homework. Older students who have regular homework in math, English, and science seem to not only do better, but score better on college entrance exams. Saying this, I still require my students to spend twenty minutes four times a week on reading. Their choice of nights during the week to complete it.

I don't believe that one school is better than another. I have attended workshops and college with teachers from Paden and Prague. Comparing the two is ridiculous. They both have their pros and cons. I was proud to read the results in the paper from both schools. And yes, I did compare each subject test and rubbed it into my husband's face that my small school was just as good as his bigger school.

And for the lady wou thinks that ADD doesn't exist. Come spend time in an elementary classroom. The medication when admistered correctly and monitored allows for those students to blossom. Unless you are a doctor, don't give advice over something you know nothing about, so in your case, don't give any advice.
