We all have choices to make, we all are taught right from wrong, YOU CHOOSE what you do with your life. I'm saying the doctors don't exacerbate the problem, but than again it is YOU who chose to go down that road!

Actually was supposed to say, I'm NOT saying the doctors don't exacerbate the problem because they do for sure, but people make that choice to go seek them out!

Good for you that you are clean now & an advocate, but don't sugar coat your actions by blaming a "disease."

It is a disease & people like you need to wake up & stop judging. It's not a "choice"

It's not a "choice" When you pop that first pill it is your choice and after that its all over with. You can try and try to get clean, but its normally not a success. You choose to get the disease. No one made anyone take that first pill but them. I'm not hating I am only stating facts because I took them too. Thank God I finally got my life back. It was my choice to do it. Later it was a disease and it becomes a disease when you can't control it. I would give anything up to have made a better choice when I took the first one.

It's not a "choice" Oh really?? I have researched & have 1st experience to the harmful effects this choice has on a loved one & their family. An addict chooses to get addicted. Everyone knows what harmful things can do to a body...it's not rocket science. Who didn't have choices is the family & friends of the addict. The ones who tried & tried to help. The ones who got lied to & stolen from. The ones who pray & cry themselves to sleep. The only ones crying disease are the ones who did the wrong. Here's a clue for you...how about Cancers, or Alzheimer's & other brain disorders, or cardiac & respiratory problems...yes those will be diseases...just wait you'll see...they are all caused by drug use.

I think that it is horrible that you were trying to put down someone who is making their life better. Instead of putting down a recovering addict maybe you should get an education. Looking at some of your post you could use one.

I have a family member who has turned his & our family's lives upside down. I've seen it all & heard it all. Sorry if I don't give all of my sympathy to people who choose the wrong path. I did say it was great that she is recovering & being an advocate. That's my point of view, so there.

in recovery 2 wrote: <quoted text>Yes, really! That last sentence didn't even make sense. Telling a drug addict that they can quit on their own is like telling an epileptic not to have a seizure. It means drug users put themselves at risk to those diseases. Longterm drug use (more often than not) leads to serious health problems & of course death. Using the disease excuse usually just takes away responsibility of actions.
