I heard it on the radio. The black truck was there at midnight. Blocking the road. 2 people had to drive around it.

For me, when I heard that his supposed first response to seeing his wife with a gun while his kids were strapped into the back seat was to "flee on fott," I knew he was lying. If my kids were strapped into the back seat and someone -- anyone -- was waving a gun around, you can bet I or that person would be dead before my kids.

I don't understand what goes through the head of a person in that moment when he finally concludes that killing his own children and his wife is somehow a reasonable solution to whatever problem he is trying to wiggle out of. Bad enough that he wanted to abandon his family: much worse that he couldn't at least be man enough to "do the wrong thing the right way" and just get a divorce. What a coward.

No, I've read a lot of articles and I haven't seen anything on that. That's what I want to know.
I was listening to the radio (Don Wade and Roma) and a woman called in from Channahon. She said her 2 teens were driving down that frontage road about midnight and a black pick up was blocking the road. As they went to pass it, a man ran around the truck and got into the passenger side. That was approximately 3 hours before the incident occurred. Later on the news, they showed an arial view of the scene and this womans kids said the black pick up shown as the "passer by" that helped Chris was the same truck they saw at midnight. I also hear that they established a connection between Chris and the passerby, but I was reluctant to share because I dont know where that info came from. Im sure theres a ton of info and evidence that led to the arrest that we havent hear yet

That's really interesting new info...at least for us so far from the area. So, it would seem that this jerk had an accomplice similar the other headline murder of the pregnant woman. It is easier, or more settling, to picture these murders as acts of passion, brought on by the strain of the personal experience. To rethink these acts as meticulously premeditated and with the help of a willing accomplice takes them to a whole new level...lower that is...more evil if that is possible.

Missouri judge revokes bail for dad in family slaying
Blagojevich signs extradition
By Gerry Smith and Hal Dardick
Tribune staff reporters

June 25, 2007, 6:05 PM CDT

Christopher Vaughn, the Oswego man accused of killing his wife and three children, made his first court appearance today in a St. Louis suburb where he was arrested over the weekend.

Jailed in St. Charles, Mo., as an out-of-state fugitive, Vaughn, 32, said nothing during the hearing, which lasted less than two minutes. He wore an orange jail uniform, handcuffs and leg irons, and his hair was unkempt.

Vaughn was arrested Saturday at a funeral home in St. Charles just hours before a memorial service for his wife, Kimberly Vaughn, 34, and children Abigayle, 12, Cassandra, 11, and Blake, 8.

At the state of Illinois' request, St. Charles County Associate Judge William Lohmar ordered Vaughn to remain jailed without bond, revoking a $1 million cash bond set earlier.

Vaughn will have to be extradited to Illinois to face murder charges against him; the hearing did not address the murder charges and he was not required to enter a plea, said St. Charles Prosecutor Jack Banas.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich this afternoon signed an extradition warrant that would allow Illinois authorities to bring Vaughn back from Missouri.

Illinois State Police flew the warrant to Missouri to be signed by Gov. Matt Blunt, said the Will County state's attorney's office.

Blunt signed the documents at 5:20 p.m. and they were being sent back to the courthouse.

Vaughn's attorney, David Waltrip, has said his client would fight extradition. To do so, Vaughn would need to file a writ of habeas corpus, Banas said, which would require a separate hearing and could delay his delivery to Illinois authorities.

Banas said he wouldn't speculate on Vaughn's odds of fighting extradition but said that St. Charles County officials would be forced to let him go if the matter is not resolved within 90 days.

Banas said Blunt's office had not been notified yet of the warrant to extradite Vaughn but said St. Charles County officials would not dispute delivering Vaughn to Illinois authorities.

"If the State of Illinois wants him back, then the State of Missouri will gladly transport him," Banas said.

I think this was just a story that some teens made up to get on TV or the radio. I think it was one of their mom's that called into a radio show to say the kids saw that at midnight when they were coming home - probably not true at all.

This guy just doesnt know when to quit does he? Obviously the police have let Vaughns attorney know what evidence they have that led to his arrest, but hes just going to keep pushing the envelope. Any attorney who files a writ of habeas corpus is nuts at this point... wrongful imprisonment? give me a break. Even when hes caught he still thinks hes smarter than everyone else... typical sociopath... no remorse, just arrogance.

Christopher Vaughn and Craig Stebic are merely carbon copies of Scott Peterson. He pulled the same kind of crap and grinned while he knew he had killed Laci and their unborn baby before throwing them in the ocean. The bastard got what he deserved, so will these two creeps. It's harder than you think to obliterate all signs of a human body.

And you know what? The longer they wait for justice, the more their fear will build. In their egocentric little hearts they KNOW they're going to burn!

I believe just the opposite. Sociopaths feel no remorse, they have no conscience. The world revolves around them and they truly BELIEVE they are smarter than anyone else. They do not believe they will ever be caught, and when they are, they are genuinely surprised... even though they are caught, they STILL believe they will not be found guilty... because they believe their charm will influence the jury. They do not care about anyone or anything... THEY are the most important people. They have no fear either. They will grin even on their way to the electric chair.
I do agree with you though that Stebic an Vaughn are carbon copies of Peterson, an thats because the media reveals entirely too much, and it gives people with that mentality ideas... Peterson probably looked up to OJ, but thought he could outsmart OJ... Stebic looked up to Peterson, but thought he was smarter and so on... nobody commits the perfect murder. These sick minds always think they are one step ahead of the police, and smarter than the last criminal who got caught... but its only a matter of time for all of them.

I can't wait for him to get back here. I'm wondering what his plea will be. Who here thinks he will plead guilty by reason of insanity>

I think hes gonna plead not guilty... he still thinks hes one step ahead of the police. He will use the taxpayers money and have a million dollar trial, and stretch this out as long as possible. My guess is there was someone else involved as well, and he will probably rat out that person in exchange for life in prison vs the death penalty. He should be back tonight... should be interesting

Yes, he is expected to be returned to Illinois tonite. This means he will probably be taken to the Will County Lockup on Chicago street, right in the heart of downtown Joliet. This is the Independence Day holiday eve, and tomorrow is our Independence Day. How fitting that he should be stripped of his independence at this time!

I agree. I was giving these guys far too much credit for being human. They're actually demons. But I suppose the important thing is that justice is done--or some semblance of justice.

This situation is becoming ridiculous... cant the police see through his "suicide talk"??? Hes doing this simply so he doesnt have to be in general population. If he had the balls to kill himself he would have done it when he killed his family. Hes too much of a coward to do anything but give himself a little scratch on the leg and arm.... and I was thinking... the police said they werent called until 5:30 and this happened hours before... it probably took the little weasel THAT LONG to actually follow through in giving himself that little wound on his leg, but he looked into the eyes of his wife and children and shot them with no problem. He isnt going to do anything to himself... this is all a ploy because hes scared to eath to have to face people in that jail who can beat the crap out of him.... rather than the defenseless women and children ... seems hes not such a "big man" anymore.

I think he should be put into general population for what he did, that way every day , he can feel one slice of the terror his family felt as he shot them, he has an advantage though, at least he will know why it's being done to him.

did you mean to say not guilty? or is there actually a quilty but insane? seriously though, who in there right mine could do something so haneious?
