Gas pump price spike may not be over yet | theNORTHWESTERN.com

Full story: www.thenorthwestern.com

October 28, 2009 By Doug Zellmer (excerpts) A gallon on unleaded regular sold for $2.75 a gallon on Wednesday at many Oshkosh gas stations. On Oct. 3, the price was $2.45 a gallon. The average price statewide for a gallon of unleaded regular was a little more than $2.73 Wednesday, while the national average is just over $2.68, according to AAA Wisconsin. It’s a reflection of some positive signs in the economy,” Mosher said.

I just paid $2.75.
It's a big psychological game they are playing with the public. Now that people have gotten used to driving around more, and going places, they won't want to cut back. It wasn't so long ago that we were spending well under $2.00.
Cut back. Plan on having a family oriented holiday without any buying.
Cook, laugh, bake cookies and teach the kids a new way.
The retailers will cry, but who cares. After all, they are the ones who recast Christmas to suit their bottomline while all of us went along with it.
Save your money! Stay home for a change. What, you can't stand being alone with your family? If so, you got problems to fix.
When they say the economy is doing good, they are NOT talking about Tamaqua people. They are talking about moguls and the rich who make lots of money off of the emotional, reckless buying habits of bluecollar people like us.
Wise up and stop being so predictable. FACT: If all of us did the right thing, the economy would crumble and we'd all be financially and physically healthier.

RIGHT THING:
*Be with our families
*Buy ONLY what we need
*Repair things instead of buying new.
*Prepare all meals from scratch
*Be tight with a dollar.

Additions to list very welcomed.

There is a few reasons why the gas prices are starting to climb again. First a weak dollar, the dollar is very weak right now in regaurds to other currencies and you will see this through out all commodities as there all priced off the green back (U.S. dollar) if you would pay attention to ths you would see this. Second OPEC, opec wants the price of crude oil to be over $80 a barrel. They are getting there but can not hold the 80 level, as I'm typing its 78.85 a barrel with refined gas being 2.00 a gallon. OPEC also does not plan to increase crude production untill it hits $100 a barrel. On Wednesday, official weekly U.S. oil data showed a sharp increase in gasoline inventories. Total oil product demand dropped by about 3 percent from a year earlier.

Oil Settles Below $78 on Gain in Gasoline Stocks
Oil fell more than 2 percent Wednesday on worries about demand in the world's largest fuel consumer after data showed a surprise build in U.S. gasoline inventories and weak U.S. new home sales.

U.S. crude oil inventories rose less than expected last week as imports increased, but gasoline stockpiles logged an unexpected gain of 1.7 million barrels, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
"Crude stocks were only up 800,000 but the surprise was gasoline stocks. I think that's what is keeping the market down," said Dan Flynn, analyst at PFGBEST Research in Chicago.

U.S. light, sweet crude [US@CL.1 79.36 1.90 (+2.45%)] fell $2.09 to settle at $77.46 a barrel. London Brent crude [GB@IB.1 77.59 1.73 (+2.28%)] fell $2.06 to settle at $75.86 a barrel.
Oil prices came under pressure after data showed new home sales tumbled unexpectedly in September, the first drop in six months, feeding doubt about an economic recovery.
Oil markets have been watching equities and economic data for signs of a rebound that could lift flagging fuel demand.
U.S. and European equity markets fell after the housing sales data. The dollar strengthened on safe-haven demand.
Weaker crude oil prices and slumping margins at refineries knocked quarterly earnings lower at ConocoPhillips [COP 50.50 1.01 (+2.04%)], PetroChina [PTR 126.64 3.57 (+2.9%)] and Hess [HES 56.25 1.53 (+2.8%)], all of which reported earnings on Wednesday.

So what exactly are you saying. We know about the dollar. Are you saying there really is no hanky panky?
I think not.
The dollar is tanking and our government is behind it. Why would they sabotage the dollar? Any good reasons?
We at the bottom are pawns no matter how you look at it. That said, we can either fight to make our voices heard, or be oblivious.
Ain't no way anyone is going to make me think what's going on with fuel is okay, and not part of a bigger scheme.

Fine with me, dude. You be the first. Sell your car and walk everywhere...you and your family. You could be like the Yeagers. ha ha. You TALK a good game. Why don't you just get off the grid, totally. Sounds like the good old days, huh. The good ol' days are totally overrated.
"Kill the oil industry" you say. What a ridiculous comment! Without oil our country (and the world) would grind to standstill. Nothing being produced, nothing moving...total chaos. Think Mad Max. Try putting coal in your gas tank. You think things are bad now??? Watch what you ask for, genius.

Oh no, it's a member of the "Toke Squad," writing to us from a room full of weed smog and the smell of patchouli. America's future has spoken, and I'm feeling sooo hopeful.

Guess again a-hole - retired military. And I'm still working in a military support function. If I combined all the complaining from all the people I've worked with in my 20 years active duty, it would not even come close to all the whining you do about everything. Maybe you should move to Wisconsin so you can have enough cheese to go with that. The entire Topix world is waiting to hear you announce that you've sold your gas-powered car in defiance of the oil industry and are hoofing fom now on. Of course, we all know the silence will be deafening, Dude.

"Retired military" and "working in a military support function" and "20 years active duty:(if all of it is true) makes you no more intelligent, nor credible, NOR BRAVER than anyone else! In fact, it didn't even have to be brought up.

Hey, if you like the oil companies and think we should support them, drive on DUUUUUUUUDE!
After all, oil companies are pure Americana. Also patriotic.

Also, if you believe that everything I supposedly "whine" about is not important, well, enjoy your beautiful life.

Maybe you're about living for the moment, thanking God when things appear better, and clinging onto hope, but I on the other hand am about making choices that will set the stage for big change.
The oil companies have a lot of pull in Washington and are wrecking bluecollar peoples' finances. "Just thank God" is not the way anyone of us should have to live.
The whole debacle is about GREED.
If people get militant enough to drive only as much as they have to while eliminating the emotional traveling, it will severely impact oil profits enough to make them blink. If not, as peoples' rage escalates, alternate energy sources will, sooner or later, see the light of day and erode the industry.
Oil is also about giving money to our enemies the Arabs. As a responsible American, I know it is wrong for me to buy anything from my enemy. Furthermore, I don't know of any thinking military person who loves the oil companies, would give their life for them, or even sees them as an example of patriotism.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I was just replying to your ludicrous assumption that I'm some pothead. You couldn't have been farther from the truth. No, being ex-military doesn't make me smarter or braver, it just shows how you quickly you jump to assumptions. I plan to enjoy my life...maybe you should get one - A LIFE. Whine on, Dude.

The gov't isn't purposely tanking the dollar. The tanking of the dollar is the direct result of the government printing a whole bunch of NEW money to cover the TRILLIONS in spending Obama is planning. Next, we'll see inflation as an indirect result of the devaluation of the dollar (less value means it will take more dollars to buy stuff...or inflation). Get ready to open your wallets for the gov't spending AND the secondary whammy from the resulting inflation. It's only gonna get worse. I hope the Obama supporters are happy!

Why laud them? We the people stopped buying and they began to see nifty little market they thought would never crumble, begin to crumble as we learned to use less and alternative energy movements began to take root.

I don't know who you are, but I DO KNOW that your views are not found on the streets of the commoners. Gosh, I can't believe someone like you could have a wife.(another tirade a comin')

What, are you trying to prove to everyone how smart you are. We all know that Gomer. OH yes, it's a fact that if you dissect the brain of a commoner from Tamaqua, and put it right next to yours, they will look the SAME.(Bet I traumatized the poor guy)
Dear Commander, I realize you don't have much respect for my opinions but, as I recall, those printing presses were revved up during the Bush administration, not Obamas (And no, I'm not an Obama supporter). We also understand the fundamentals of dollar valuation as it relates to inflation.
Commander, I don't like Obama, and I think he has an agenda that, if it's carried out, I will not like. I, also, didn't care for the Bush Administration within a couple of years after 9/11. So you think the republicans would have been better than Obama?
NO WAY!
All Tamaqua people would have gotten is another bunch of agendas that would not benefit any of us. AND, we'd probably be in another war by now. Haha. And guess who would be fighting that war? US, the commoners in Tamaqua.

Colonel, next time you come in here, can you please stop blowing that whistle whenever I speak?(taking out earplugs).(shaking head)

Man, you can't even be happy when gas is under $2.00. Sorry, there's no hope for you. Maybe there a pill for that. Stop buying gas then, if that's your answer. Have a nice life. I'll be seeing ya hoofin' it around T-town....as I drive by...with my WIFE. Sorry, no hitchhikers.
