I am interested in knowing if anyone in town remembers these young ladies. They skipped school on Halloween, left the High School never to be seen or heard from again. Does anyone remember this?

What did everybody think happen to pam and pat? Do you remember if both of those airports were in Oscoda in 1969? Maybe Gary Earl Leiterman was involved with thier disappearance? He is the one that killed that UofM co-ed Jane Mixer in March 1969. That would be just 7 months before Halloween 1969.

Does anyone remember this? I am a family member, and yes they went to school on Oct. 31st 1969 and never came home. It is something that I remember day after day as does my sisters. Our parents died without knowing what happened to their daughter. And we continue to follow leads and we beleive one day we will know what happened to both Pam and Patty.

There was a wonderful article in the Oscoda press on July 13th. I wish I knew how to post it on here.

I find it hard to imagine anyone other than our family still wonders what happened to Pam! We continue to seek answers and believe someday we will have the answers that haunted our mother until the day she died. While we are only one family of so many, it is always a question in our minds, and if anyone knows anything even if you do not think it is important please contact the Oscoda Police, Mark David is the chief and he is working with our family to find the answers to this 42 year old mystery.

I do remember - I was close friends with both of them and was supposed to go with them. The only reason I didn't is because Mrs.(Jean) Barnes worked in the high school office and I knew as soon as I left, she'd be on the phone calling my mother (they were good friends). We had been at Pam's house a day or two before that halloween - which I believe was on a Friday - trying different makeup, etc. I believe it was Friday because there was a game at the high school and we were going to go to a halloween party after. I asked them to just wait out the school day, but they were anxious to leave. The walk from the high school to Patty's house wasn't very far - she lived at the bottom of the hill off River Road. When everyone realized they were gone, Jimmy Koenig, who was dating Pam at the time, and his friend, Chucky Newman, came to my house to ask my mom if I could go with them to look for the girls. For some reason - I don't remember why - he thought we should look for them in Reed City. It was a long, cold ride in his VW beetle!! 5 yrs. later, I was approached by Ron Carraway saying, "aren't YOU the lucky sole survivor." It sent chills down my spine!!! He said something about maybe they shouldn't have partied at Bull Taco farm so much - but we never did!! We didn't experiment with drugs because of what had happened to Kenny Miliron - we were scared to pieces, so we weren't experimenting or anything - We weren't cheer leaders or "druggies" - just good kids. I saw Jimmy Koenig recently and he and I both just hugged and we knew what the other was thinking - then at the exact same time we both said -"every day - especially on halloween." So sad - I still miss my good friends. I remember feeling so sad when I'd go into Gilbert's with my mom and seeing Mrs. Spencer - still whistling. I always felt to guilty :( I have written to Mark David and told him everything I remembered, which is what I have just written to you. I, too, hope answers are found - it haunts me to this day.

Lori, thank you for responding. I am one of Pam's younger sisters, and if you were her friend and at our home, I probably know you. To be honest I have purposely forgotten alot of what our lives were like in Oscoda, it was just too painful. But all of Pam;s sisters are seeking answers. The youngest, Mary is in Oscoda right now working with several parties on the case.
I know the pain it has caused our family and I know it has also caused pain in other's lives. It is a nightmare that just never really ends. I remember Jim and know that Pam and him were quite the pair. It is so sad that one horrible day, some decisions were made by two young girls that ended so tragically. I know Pam had a large group of people she knew, I have never believed she was doing drugs, but in '69 there were drugs everywhere and there were a LOT of them in Oscoda...but I never believed Pam was into drugs. I just cannot imagine, or maybe do not want to even think about what happened. Our family knows Pam is dead, some of us accepted that fact years before other members could; we just want to find our sister and bring her home. Losing Pam so many years ago changed each of us in many ways, it changed the path of our lives dramatically and her loss continues to take us on a jouroney no family should have to travel. But we continue this journey and we pray for answers and closure not only for our family but for Pam and Patty's friends and others who still care about what happened.
I do know there is someone in Oscoda who knows exactly what happened....how they have lived with themselve and that knowledge all these years is something I am just not able to really comprehend.
I do thank you for responding and I hope Mary is able to touch base with you and speak with you. You may be able to shed light into some of the questions we just do not have answers to. Do you remember Bob Kassell? I remember him being around all the time and just wonder if he may have heard something over the years....so many names keep coming up and I am just not able to remember; I too remember Kenny Miliron and how scared Pam was after his horrific experience with drugs..I can still see him on the old pier in a wheelchair (I think) and being so very young but knowing it was a horrible tragedy. So many years have passed by and that image has stayed with me.
While Arelene and our mom have both passed away, there are still many family and friends who deserve to know what happened.
Maybe someday is closer than we think. I pray for the answers and not only will we no longer be haunted by the unknown, but able to grieve and move on. Thanks again Lori.

Hi, I was wonder if either of these girls ever wore a big silver peace sign maybe on a necklace. My father has been metal detecting just as a hobby and found one out by the high school and it was brought to his attention that I guess maybe one of girls that went missing wear one?? I believe he took it to the police station?? It's just got me wondering and would be a blessing if maybe it could help???

Any information can help. Patty did wear a peace sign necklace...you never know if one piece of information or item can open the door to other clues. Thanks for the response....after the article in the Oscoda Press we feel very postive that the answers our family has asked for over 41 years may be getting answered. The one thing we have always known is someone, somewhere knows what happened to both girls. I have always beleived people can live with a lot of things, but I know there are just certain things as one gets older they do not want to die with. The answers we seek will be found, because Pam's sisters will not give up. Our sister deserves to be brought home and for us to have the closure every family deserves. Thanks to everyone who still cares.

To Bettye - As long as Pam and Patty had been my friends, we NEVER experimented BECAUSE of what had happened to Kenny (Miliron)- If nothing else, that scared the daylights out of us!!! And I KNOW they would never have gotten into a stranger's car - period. Don't recall a Bob Kassell, although I was a very shy gal back then and didn't have a lot of friends - only hung out with Pam and/or Patty all the time. I'll ask around as there are still people in Oscoda that were here back then.

Our family was very good friends with Arlene and her kids. Patty was a year younger than me. I still wonder what happened to the girls and remember Arlene followed every lead, used psychics...to find out what happened to her daughter and Pam. I know Patty would not run away...had a good relationship with her Mom. For sure foul play. Her brother is also concerned to find out what happened.

Our parents died without knowing what happened to their daughter. And we continue to follow leads and we beleive one day we will know what happened to both Pam and Patty. Hi Bettye, I saw an article about Pam & Patty's case online. I know this is a terrible thing to think about and I hope you forgive me for looking at things this way, but have you or your sisters, as well as any females from Patty's family given DNA to investigators? Or checked the Jane Doe records of Michigan and surrounding states from the past 42 years? There's a small possibility that 1 or both of the girls could have been located outside of your jurisdiction before police departments had the means to communicate with one another. Also, the strongest identifying DNA is mitochondrial, which is shared through the females in the family and is used mostly in the identification of cold case victims. Investigators and coroners across the country have slowly been getting hits on victims by entering DNA into the NamUs database in the past couple years from cases that have been sitting cold for decades. It's technology like this that's helping to solve cases and provide answers to families just like yours who have waited a lifetime. Just 2 things to think about. I'm very sorry your sister was taken from your family and you've had to live all these years without resolution and justice. I'm glad to see their cases are being re-vived through social networking and I hope they are in the hands of determined cold case investigators who can get you the answers you so rightfully deserve. I will share Pam and Patty's cases on my Facebook wall and keep your families in my thoughts and prayers. I'm a victims advocate that shares case files online daily with many missing persons groups, in hopes of returning people to their families, no matter what the outcome. If you and someone in Patty's family has photos of the girls, please let me know if we could add them to their story, as they could also help spark people's memories who may remember them, or have case tips to share. I hope this helps. Tracey in Baltimore, MD diamond414x@aol.com

I hope this helps. Tracey in Baltimore, MD diamond414x@aol.com Hi Tracey, Thank you for your thoughts, information and prayers. My younger sister is the one who is definitely more hands on with the current re-opening of the case for Pam and Patty. I do know they did have DNA from our mother back in 2001 when they had found what they thought might be remains. I am not sure about having entered any DNA evidence into any system, but will definitely have this looked into. I WELCOME any and all people's interest. This has been something our family has learned to live with, but it never ever leaves you, and someday we pray for closure...to be able to bring our sister home and know where she is. SO THANK you for all the info and for caring.
