The Daytona Beach problem has its roots in its massive corruption. This is a City that has been called as being an Organized Crime municipality within the USA. It is controlled by a few individuals that maintain a corrupt group of City officials at their service and to the detriment of the city's residents. "Organized Crime under Color of Law" - what an ideal setup!
You said it so clear!

I have been going there since I was one. I have seen major changes. I continue to go there. I don't like because they tear away at the boardwalk. Instead of going there 4 or 5 times a year, I now go on cruises and the islands. I also throw Vegas or another location in.
The Boardwalk is an amusment park now. A new restaurant on the pier, called Joe's Crab Shack,it just opened 2 days ago. Daytona is nice.

@ Daytona 4ever .. Just how long do you think Crabby joes is going to stay around? As for an Amusement park for who "Pedophiles, Drug adicts ?" This business is going to finally realize they are being shaken down and run for the hills !! Daytona is corrupt and a sleaze pit. I hope the pier gets blown into the atlantic during a hurricane , Mabey that will wake people up to the corruption when they ask for $$To rebuild it . I think your a city troll plant pianting a pretty picture with feces.

It's been accurately called: Organized Crime under Color of Law

That's the sad truth of Daytona Beach and explains why is so run down and has so much unimpeded crime.

Corruption destroys cities.

The last of the 819 boyz was sentanced to 65 years in jail for weapons-drug charges. Time will tell how much havoc there will be between Nova & Ridgewood. It's certainly a good sign. Antonio Bizzell was arrested by federal & local officers on weapons-drug charges, sentenced to 65 years. This coincides with a report, that improvements will be made to I.S.B. In theory both seem like the right step, however no one could be blamed for being synical.

Wow Herb, tell us how you really feel. Way to lift up the community in a positive light. Instead of complaining about the problems why don't you provide some solutions.

Glen Ritchie is finished. Let him go out of business too. How his reputation sells cars is a mystery. The auto mall is out there because of corruption- if it's legal-not connected- bring everything in to replace Ritchie. He controls that part of Nova. Carl Persis is attemping to replace Bruno, it won't happen a vote was passed his attempt is an insult because of his connection to Dineen, Fred Costello strongly suspects Persis with good reason Daytona Beach residents need to believe that Fred Costello will abolish the sunshine law. He was partly responsible for solving some of the problems in double dipping. The answer from Tallahassee was NO! It has to stay that way, Persis was told he can't even volenteer, Tallahassee can't take away his right to try,[it's unamerican] He's unamerican as well be careful.

The sunshine law was written to protect government, by stipulating they will not be held responsible for any wrongful act while in office. This law was not passed it was grandfathered in meaning it holds no valid proof from the time it was inacted. Josh Wagner's father went to prision.. arrested by the feds, there is part of the answer, they are out there. Getting rid of a government employee is like trying to tell Judge Will he has to step down! Difficult not impossible. Reynolds/gilliland/Doran/ Bruno/ Shelly all grandfathered in [common knowledge] Kelly White has her seat because of Jack White wasting tax dollars by over spending selling to the Whites for a fraction. Some of the lots on the beachside are owned by unincorporated land developers-[without government interferrence. Consolidated Tomoka owns over 11000 acres [mainly west of Nova. Ted Doran stopped Theresa Doan from serving on the HAAA board - stalemate! better to get rid of Doran instead of having to get rid of both.

... The beauty of the ocean & beach is marred by the greed of the glass houses. You pay top dollar for nothing at all. There is no open air, or even safety for that matter. They need to go back in time to recover, and stop trying to control for profit mans natural attraction to the area.

Another point of view: The city employees of Daytona would like nothing more than to go back in time to salt water taffy arcade games ferris wheels & ice skating rinks. That's the problem: It cost to much money as an expense to the taxpayers to have the ferris wheel shipped to Daytona- it's been obvious for a long time that small business will not exsist unless it benefits people like Theresa Doan. Al Smith lied about spending $30.000 on a used generator that belonged to Gary Libby in order to steal tax dollars. How much evidence is needed before Daytona Beach residents can more -forward- The sunshine law needs to be abolished they won't be punshished just tell them to ___GO AWAY!

Do not go to Hawaian Luau dinner and show. Forty dollars a person and they add a seven dollar gratuity at the door for parties of 3 or more. They even added another seven dollar gratuity when we ordered 2 drinks. You had to stand in line at the serve yourself buffet. A very long line. The salad table was a very small round table with nothing but lettuce, three bean salad and dressing. The seven dollar gratuity was per person. Biggest tourist rip off I've ever encountered. Really bit into our vacation budget so we were unable to visit one of the other restaurants we wanted to visit. They should be required to tell people about the seven dollar gratuity for 3 or more people before you get there. Like when you call to make your reservations.

I been spending 3 to 4 weeks a year in Daytona Beach Shores for the last 23 years or so. We love the area. We spend just about all our money shopping/ dinning out in Port Orange( a few resturants in the shores too) and going to as many Daytona Cubs baseball games as we can! Great work cubbies staff! I agree Daytona has went down in the last 6 years or so, south end of A1A Looks likes a ghost town till you reach dbshores. HollyHill area looks so scary!

Instead of wasting time and money vacationing in Daytona Beach you can get a similar experience by doing the following. Get dressed in your best "victim" clothing. Drive to the worst part of town you can find. I mean the kind of place every business closes before nightfall because of the crime. You might have to drive a distance to find the kind of place that would work. A place where murders, rapes, robberies and all violent crime statistics are sky-high. Then, walk around at night with hundred dollar bills hanging out of your pocket. At least in your town you could get competent medical care following the inevitable.
Let's all thank Mayor Glenn Ritchey for the deplorable job he's doing as Mayor and for all his hard work draining the life blood out of Daytona Beach. I am curious to know how much he sold his soul for.
THANKS GLENN !!!

I like the ponce part of the beach, just the north end doesn't have any places to eat. There is a small beachside resturaunt called North Racing or something, has to do with cars, can't remember the name. DO NOT GO THERE! Service is super lousy, the food taste bland or like a truck load of salt. We had an awesome condo right next to the place and ate there, would be better to drive to miami than to eat at that place. I have heard lots of good about it, we gave it a second try, was bad all over again.

I moved here (DB) from Gainesville about 2 years ago. I was warned about the area but had no idea that it would be this bad. I don't understand how an area gets like this. I've never seen a beach with fewer pretty girls. All retired working class northerners and other lame stragglers.

I love the way people condemn the way others do their job especially when they don't even live in the town that they are trashing. Please stand up if you are willing to take the task of ANY city advisory board. Perhaps with all of the wisdom spoken here about all of the problems and corruption that Daytona has, these complainers can do a better job. NASCAR brings more income to this community on a regular basis than any other single business entity in the area. Yes, there are unemployment challenges and some undesirables but show me a city that does not have its share of economic challenges and blighted areas. Trashing the community and its leadership will not help turn it around any time soon.
Nascar is the corruption we keep hearing about! So are bike events, admitting that Daytona Beach has problems & that it won't change anytime soon by complaining, when you're doing the complaining is a contradiction! In other words you're an idiot!

Josh Wagner has been under investigation for quite awhile. The F.B.I. believes there's a connection to his father and actually using illegal funds to obtain, certain favors that kept his father in business. Ramara Garrett financed the political campaigns of Wagner Cussack, Persis Doran & Henry. Garrett also has misdealing with Wagner & the pier. Garrett was also involved in the second street market- floridian view- & other plans involving Omi Vangard [aka Wagner] It is rumored that Bornia has gone back to Palm Beach, according to Wagner & the News Journal. It's also rumored that Joyce Cussack appointed Patel to the H.AA Board to replace Doran. Shifting the ideas around are common practice for the politicians. It becomes so muttled to the point of foolish for believing anyone has gone anywhere.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Pisces

You're raring to go today, especially on domestic projects. You'll achieve a tremendous amount if you're allowed to proceed at your own pace and in your own time, but you'll soon get ratty if you suspect someone is breathing down your neck or trying to tell you what to do. You'll also feel irritated with people you know really well, so be prepared for a few fireworks.
