Heard they were closing and a Japanese place was opening. Hope this is not true. Has anyone else heard about a new restaurant opening in Oak Grove?

yes it is true. like so many things that have come and gone in portland without the people supporting local businesses they will shut down. no one misses anything in this town untill it is gone. the economy did not help the matter either. my guess is 109 in next as the landlord recently went up on their rent 500 dollars a month. Sushi is not bad at all!!!!

Fine. Panther Den is closing not because of the economy but due to several factors. When Evelyn sold to Skip and Anita they went up on prices 3 times immediately. For a while you would be charged differently for the same meal each time. Then when they ran off the business 109say opened and was welcomed with openarms by Portland residents. The Bands bought the Panther Den and they could not resurrect what had been done. Now they will lease to a Japanese restaurant. 109s rent is going up due to the pricks that own the building. They have never been good for this town. The people that run 109 are nice and I hope they continue to work and offer us a nice place to eat at a fair price.

I resent being called a prick. Thank God in America I can raise my rent whenever I think it is good business. The parking lot is always full so why shouldn't I go up on the rent.

Well what did the rent go up too? Guess it depends on if its far reaching. People dont thinl about it but the whole point of business is business.. Rent will be a amount for awhile. When business prospers landlord raises rent. Thats business..then they prospere. The business of landlords is land and property. What drives me insane though is when you start in crappy building.,fix it up,then they raise it. Also tenants have an option to not rent the space without a clause stating a time limit on not raising rent. So did the rent go so far up that they are being forced out?

You may go up on the rent whenever you want. You might just lose a good tenant, then get a tenant in there that is a flake and does not pay on time, or is out of business in three months. Ever look into the eviction law in Tennessee, Landlord? 2-3months. I have no dog in the fight, to each their own. In a depressed economy, it does not seem like a good time to go about raising rents.

Ever heard of the phrase" if it ain't broke, don't get greedy and screw it up"? Probably not, since It's common sense. If I had a house that I rented and they always paid on time and made the house worth more. Then why in the hell would I raise their rent and piss them off???? Hell if anything, I would give them a discount every now and then. Oh...and maybe actually give them decent parking spaces instead of parking in a crappy gravel lot!

Resents being called a prick, but when he rented it to the mexican restaurant before he took his family there most every week and walked out without paying as if he deserved the free food. He IS a prick. His daughter is even worse.

I never cared for Panther Den especially with the latest owners. !09 is excellent and I hope they stay in business a very long time.

People like weezie and hardass are the reason this town will be slow to grow. Probably the type of people that never work over 40 hours a week or dont even hold down a job. Just sit behind a computer and complain and wish bad luck on the town.

It's interesting to notice how very mean the comments are toward anyone who criticizes Portland. The first thing is assumed is that anyone who voices their dissatisfaction with how things are going is labeled as non-working and never goes to meetings, etc. That is just not the case. I work a minimum of 50 hours a week, attend council meetings, voice my concerns to them at times, etc. Portland has a lot of problems and it's not easy to sit back and say nothing in light of the past years record. Portland is tightly controlled by a handful of people and the bulk of the citizens sit back and say nothing. It's just very frustrating to watch.

yeah go figure sounds like one of the many clueless assholes that keep voting the same crooks into office probably kin to one of the portland privileged. funny to watch this heap of a town go down the tubes because of rednecks that vote for whoever has the most election signs around election time with no clue or care what the candidate will do after election. how many towns have a burger king and a taco bell go out of business? yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ha.

I support and shop at many Portland businesses, just not Panther Den.Never have I wished bad luck on Portland. As for sitting behind my computer all the time, how many posts have I made here on this forum? Not many. And as for whether I work or not,I'll tell you this. I'm retired after working 40 years ( not counting part time jobs I held while in college.)
