Released on his own recognizance? Well that will teach him to resist a peace officer. Wow lucky for him he did not pull that stuff in another county where they do not utilize stun guns! That was a text book case of a justified shooting.

When a suspect fails to comply/ especially at gun point/ pacing back and forth/looking around/ walking to the location they have concealed weapons- that means one thing, contemplation!

Good job Deputy- sorry the DA does not back up law enforcement. This guys will do the same thing again- except next time- the DA will be charging the police with shooting this guy under the same circumstances and call it illegal- Cause we all know, in incidents like these, law enforcement should obtain a warrant first before stopping the threat...Right Gallegos- you flipping moron.

Yeah and the Deputies go through all this intense crap for terrible benefits... Wow how lucky for them. A job working in the sewer would pay better and be more rewarding. And so it goes.....

Former Chairman Marshall should know better, he has a law degree and was a former instructor of law at UCLA. I guess his alcoholism finally caught up with him.

Times Standard-Serving Eureka and the North Coast
How is this "local" news? Hoopa is inland, not a part of the north coast. T.S. loves to print negative about Hoopa.

Lyle is innocent. He was a terrific chairman and fabulous community leader. He never coward down to special interest or certain families with the last names of George, Grant or Hostler. We who voted in the last election know Elrod Masten would have never won if not for the ballots being purchased by drug dealers from Mill Creek to insure the win. The election as we all know is nothing more then a political popularity contest; Lyle never cared about popularity. What does a cop
know about running a business or an enterprise, you should talk to the true chairperson: Sue Masten!!! Former chair for the Yuroks, that who is really running the tribe now. Lyle was the best person who ran the tribe. Now we can just watch all he has built for his people be lost due to the lack of leadership Elrod has, he'll have his day!!!

Sounds from the reporting that the man wasn't actually WITNESSED anything wrong...

He allegedly had pointed a gun at his son. That's brandishing and it's illegal.

Other than that, it sounds like he got tazed for no reason, and there is no mention of the two guns found in his car as being illegally possessed. So long as they were unloaded and the handgun was locked up then he was OK. Also, Marshall might have a CCW at which point he can have a loaded handgun.

Sounds like there's either a lot missing from this article or someone got tazed for no reason.

Seriously? Can you be drunk and drive? Can you be drunk and still carry firearms, even with a CCW? Can the deputy know if the guns were loaded or unloaded? Don't you think the cop would determine if the guy had a CCW before charging the firearms charge?

The cops got called when somebody saw this guy brandishing a gun. They were investigating a possible crime. Absoulute "prbable cause" to contact Marshall. He was too drunk or stupid to listen to the cop. It was reported to the cops that the guy had a gun. Then he reaches for his waistband.

"...it sounds like he got tazed for no reason." Give me a break.

The former chairman is just that, former. He did not conduct himself in this fashion while in office because he took his position as a public figure very seriously. He's no longer a public figure. I may have gone off the deep end too if everything I had worked for, for 8 years, was threatened by a new regime. Why doesn't the T-S cover everybody who gets a DUI and resists arrest? I think I know why. It seems the T-S seeks to sensationalize the negative in Hoopa. There's is an abundance of positive events and great people out here. Please try to be fair.

It really does seem that the TS dwells on the negative in Hoopa. Unfortunately, sensationalism sells and the TS staff are newspaper peddlers...

Funny. You all are so quick to comment about the negativity in Hoopa, but when something is positive you choose to ignore it. For Example, Miss Indian World, YES SHE IS FROM HOOPA. There is not one comment in that blog. What does that go to say about you?

Thanks for your comment. You are so right, sensationalism sells papers. But, unnecessary negative coverage feeds dangerous stereotypes that adversely affect the good people of Hoopa. Aren't news people supposed to minimize harm? "The pursuit of news is not a license for arrogance."

Oh! Yurok Cutter! You so tell the truth about agenda, I dont believe a word Sue Masten says. She is the Chairperson
of the Hupa people now. God help us all! Dont rub it in. Instead of Hupa Fish-on, it's Hupa Crook-on.

That Grant Girl was raised in Citrus Heights, severely doubt she has ever got her hands dirty a day in her life.

Brooke, winner of Miss Indian World, was raised in Hoopa until she was about 16, then her mother moved to the Sacramento area for work. She is a bright, young woomen who has made her Tribe proud, but why should you care it sounds like you want to bash her over either over jealousy, or just spite.

I beg to differ! She WAS raised in Hoopa. Just because she is beautiful and intelligent doesn't mean she never "got her hands dirty a day in her life." She's been through more hard times than most and has persevered as an amazing young woman.
