Reflections, past, present and future, this family as we have become in the past months, try to keep it light around here, we don't tolerate anyone attacking other posters or being mean, this is a place of feelings, peace, love and enjoyment and many others. A place to come when you need a friend, a kind word, a laugh. When someone is ugly, they get spammed (if you act ugly, it won't take long for you to realize that you have been spammed, it may come from any or all of us). We just try to protect everyone's feelings as we are family and we share a lot of personal things that we feel comfortable talking about. Sometimes it helps just to get things off your chest, to share your sorrows and receive experienced advice or share some joy from your life and read about what's going on in each other's lives. We also share tips about raising children (and husbands), cooking, gardening, you name it, anything goes! We encourage new members, we are looking for bright, insightful participants (male or female) who enjoy meeting new people from around the country that are open to new ideas and hearing from our friends, whether it be good or bad. We stand behind each other, we do not all agree on everything, but we are very respectful of each other's opinions and are willing to be open minded. But, we say what we think and hope you can take it, so if you are a fun loving, caring and intelligent person, this is the place to be. Welcome, friends!

oh say say playmate
come out and play with me
and bring your dolly three
climb up my apple tree
slide down my rainbow
slide down my cellar door
and we'll be jolly friends forever more

Good Morning, Everyone. It is not raining, and the sun is shining. The kids didn't bring the baby squirrel by before school, so I am assuming that Freshman granddaughter stayed home from school today. I know her mom was getting a prescription filled for her yesterday.
Way back, I was complaining about the school one grandson goes to--uniforms that have to be bought from a certain company, belts, socks must show an inch above the shoe, etc. I was complaining that his parents had bought him a new pair of shoes which were a little higher cut and not a full inch of sock showed. They kept calling his mom, telling her she would have to either bring him different socks, or take him out of school. That night she went to Walmart and bought walmart socks. The logo showed (gasp) so they were calling her the next day, telling her she'd either have to bring him different socks or take him out of school. Finally she told them to have turn his socks wrong side out. The point of me rehashing all this is: In the past month there have been several students out with mono and not one damned phone call from the school. The parents heard it from the kids, called the parents of the sick ones and got it verified. Moral is--showing Walmart logos on your socks is worthy of a dozen phone calls. Being exposed to mono--nothing, not even a note or email.
Makes a person want to back his head against a wall. It's like where's their head? Up their you-know-what?

Beauty and Perception

Washington DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 mins a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 mins later the violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the till and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes, a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 mins: a 3 year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly, as the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced them to move on.

45 minutes; the musician played. Only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.
He collected $32.

1 hour; he finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. The questions raised: in a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments .... how many other things are we missing?

Is anyone adventurous enough to try this?(remember I am not a fan of chocolate)

FIVE MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts [?].
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT!(this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

I'm not doing the unpacking! I did all the packing AND moved all the heavy stuff, so now I'm going to sit under tree and smoke the cigs that FLN stole, I mean, borrowed.

Nice Job Queen.

You know damned well I cannot pass up a cooking challenge! Will have to get a couple of the ingredients first, I'll let you know how it comes out, I don't do much microwaving.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
