At one range I went to elsewhere, they had a policy that any 'first-timer' could only shoot in the context of receiving instruction from a staff member or a known frequent customer.

But for all the anti-gun rhetoric spawned, the changing rates for the existence/ownership of guns has had no impact on suicide or homicide rates in the U.S.

Funny thing that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are at the bottom. Maybe that it is because when you break the law there are serious consequences. Like public beheadings and getting your hand chopped off when you steal.

If penalties were a little stiffer here in the U.S. there would be less crime. Taking away guns are not the answer. Criminals will always get guns when they want to by any means necessary, including stealing from law enforcement.

Stiffer laws on crime and getting rid of liberal limp wristed judges would be a great place to start.

You have made a M0R0N1C comment - look at the cities where citizens aren't allowed to own guns and there you will find the highest rates of gun violence. Go look at the cities where citizens can protect themselves and own and carry firearms and you will see much lower levels of gun violence.

You're right on target.<pun intended> I have shot at ranges here in NC and in Orlando. It seems that as long as you have an ID and aren't drooling, they will hand over a weapon. Sometimes it's downright scary shooting next to people. Hell, up here you can rent an assault rifle and take out everyone on the range. I feel for the cops that use the ranges more frequently than the general public.

That's REAL comforting.... Never heard of renting one before though. I'd rather own than rent

good post and good points. After this incident though it may be a one time situation it just opens your eyes about you know don't who you're standing next to and what they could be going through mentally, financially etc, etc...

BTW, I was seriously contemplating on going to shoot straight yesterday but the one in Apopka...either way it's too close to home to be in a situation and to have witness such a horrific scene. I really feel for the people who witness this situation take place.
