While I am entirely for the 2nd amendment and gun owner rights, I would have zero problems at all with the rental of guns at ranges being outlawed.

I stopped going to Shoot Straight for target practice because of all of the people who go there and have no idea what they are doing with a weapon. They are basically allowed to shoot with zero instruction or supervision. I now only go to places that are strict and will kick out individuals who can't handle their weapons properly.

We need to outlaw guns. Then there will be no more shoutings like this one.

This is interesting point. It seems like this lady wanted to kill the boy, but needed a gun to do so. Generally speaking, how would it impact the murder rate if ppl had to kill with knife or other more "close range" object? Guns make it way to easy...

Not the answer - law abiding citizens have the right to bear arms. When you take that right away or make it illegal to own a gun, do you think the bad guy who is out to commit crime & violence cares?

I'm just glad we live in a country where the mentally ill can rent a gun to protect themselves from their demons, like the person at the gun range next to them. It should make us all feel safer, don't you think?

Is it any surprise that the U.S has the highest murders around the world?

I think that the Sentinel could have left that part out of the story saying that mentally ill people could still rent guns at a shooting range.

No! One of the reasons I spend time in the USA each year is so I can spend some time at the range.
The reason I cant do it in the UK is because our "Nanny" state assumes we are not adult enough to own handguns. In over 200 years we have had precisely two mass shootings, in fact since they outlawed handguns, firearms crimes have INCREASED.
This woman would have killed her son anyway, she just chose the easiest way to do it.

Good post Redogg. You appear to speak from experience, with intelligence, and I respect your input. Didn't realize it was so loosely controlled. If what you say is true, maybe there should be stricter safety guidelines mandated for all properties engaging in this deadly activity. The place in question has been there for years, and despite being almost across the street from the police department, probably needs to tighten it up a bit.

as you can clearly see, motor vehicle accidents kill more people in every age group that guns (including gang warfare, self defense shoots, and criminals killed by police).

With those stats we need to round up all the cars and get rid of them ASAP. I mean I can only take out like 18 people with my G17 before having to reload...with a car, I could mow down hundreds with my eyes closed.

Then we'll talk about taking away knives, blunt objects and the like, all things that also rank fairly high when counting stats.

Don't know what the answer is exactly, but pulling guns from law abiding citizens does not bring resolve, only a VERY temporary patch to a MUCH larger issue. Where it the "end all beat all" that people think it is, states that didn't allow guns, and nations that don't allow them would be crime free...right?
