I can only imagine what this family is going through. How horrible it must be to not only lose your child but to lose your child through your own negligence. I can understand how in a busy morning you could do this. But I am not so sure the rest of the world will. I pray that this family is able to surive this. GOD bless you all.

Ah yeah - the old "I thought he/she" took the baby to child care. I don't think so, even though I feel for the parent(s) she is telling us that she did not know a child was in the back seat? This was done on CSI by the way.

You forgot your child? Please - you forget your purse - you forget your lunch - but mother's don't forget their children. Lets hope the investigation is not tainted because the mother is a city employee. Her child is dead and she should go to jail.

I don't think we can judge what was in her head that morning. I get up each day and get 2 children up and ready for school. It is often hectic. According to the article she has 4. Getting 4 children up, fed, dressed and ready to go is hectic. While doing this you are having to think ahead to what you have to do during the day. I can understand how you could forget something. Unfortunatly that something was a stop at the day care. This mom will be punished everyday in her own mind way more then the system could have punish her. Not to mention she has 3 other children who have lost a sibling. Should we arrest and charge their mother and they lose her too. And before any one says they would be better off without her. I doubt these children will feel the same.

The story clearly states she (the mother) was to take the child to day care the father was out of town. How can you load this baby into the car and then forget the child was in there. She must have left a little earlier knowing she had a stop that was not in her normal plan. I am sorry she shall be to blame for the death of this child. It was her Job as a parent to take the proper means to care and for the safety of her child.SAD TO SAY SHE DID NOT DO HER JOB

She will get off with nothing more than a hand-slap. Some society we live in where parents are not held responsible for their actions.
I hope she doesn't decide on having more kids.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID! How on earth can you not remember you have a child in the backseat? It's a hassle getting them into those car seats and your going to forget the child is there? Un-freakin-believable.

You can only imagine the pain this mom is feeling if you have lost a child yourself. For that she has my sympathy. However, she must be held accountable for her neglect. I have four children, things are hectic and crazy at times. The child was almost 2 years old. They are not quiet at this stage. I can't believe the mom said she forgot the baby was in the back seat. Was the car so big she couldn't she the baby? Couldn't hear her? It makes everything ok because she has 4 children? Because she's too stressed and overworked? Who isn't!

I'm not blaming this incident on the daycare, but as a safegaurd, how about the daycare providers calling the parents say within a half hour of the child not showing up. Perhaps some children would be saved.

In todays age of car safety, there should be a buzzer or alarm that goes off if the car is turned off , locked ,and a seatbelt is still fastened. Another thought would to allow car seats in the front seat for children age three and under.

If your life is so busy & stressed that you forget your child, you need to re-evaluate your priorities. That poor baby. How does a mother forget her child?

As a parent it the thought of losing a child this way is horrifying, but I have to agree with the majority of the posters. If you can't remember you have your child in the backseat then you shouldn't be trusted with the welfare of your children. I sure hope the rest of her kids are old enough to talk and take care of themselves.
It does sound to me that she is being treated differently than someone else that may not work in the city's employ. DCF and others may want to examine her life very closely. Just because she works for the city does not mean she is immune from drug or alcohol addiction, mental illness or just plain old recklessness. Whomever is in charge of this case should see that her children are removed from her care immediately until her mental and home situation can be evaluated properly.
I can honestly say that the closest thing I've ever done to forgetting my children is early dismissal on Wednesdays. I moved from another state and we didn't have that there. That doesn't make me the perfect mom, but it sure is a far cry from forgetting an infant in the backseat in 90 weather.

It seems a change of routine is a common theme when parents leave children in cars. I can see how this can happen.

Most cars have the LATCH system for attaching car seats these days, no longer use seatbelts to fasten the car seat. Only solution there would be a sensors installed in the car seat itself and tied into the car. Probably cost prohibitive considering how infrequently this really happenes when you consider how many kids are put in cars every day without incident.
