Grayson's announcement about the Hurricane research center is NOT a guarantee it will ever get built. I doubt seriously if it will. It was simply a very obvious and transparent justification behind his lock step vote for the Cap and Tax bill so he could do Pelosi's bidding and pretend he 'really made a trade' for his vote.
Congratulations Judas, hope your little sack of silver coins goes far. You sold out the poorest Americans whose bills now for energy will soar, right in the middle of a recession. What a freaking genius. Stand by for our illustrious Senator Nelson now to do the curtsy and bow for Senator Reid. |

Grayson is useless and Kosmas does not appear to be any better. Both are more interested in promoting what they claim to have done that being responsive to anybody but themselves. Neither can make a decision based on facts but follow Polesi like a puppy dog. And when she stops, their noses get even browner.
UCF does not need a new program. If anything UF could use some help with their existing weather related programs. |

Lame, highly disposable editorializing here.
The ed board going out of their way to slam a guy who's bringing home some bacon and leveraging/seeking to hedge his political position on a vote one suspects, as a mavericky freshman in a 50/50 district, he was tempted to withhold support on. Shocked...SHOCKED he might be making moves here for incumbency's sake!! The stuff about 'poor Miami' makes more sense for the herald to kvetch over...Grayson doesn't represent Miami. Why should the Sentinel? This whole spiel sounds as much about 'incumbency' as anything: the 'incumbent' scientists in Miami not liking the sound of competition, or encroachment on their turf. So UCF has a reason to expand its curriculum...I'm failing to see the dire outrage. Sounds like jobs to me. And you know, if there's a case to be made that Grayson's shirking on bringing alt-energy & similar tech research to UCF and/or the area, how about DOING A NEWS STORY ON THE SUBJECT, instead of this totally unsupported one-sentence jab in buried in an editorial. Love to read something of substance on that, if it exists...til then, I'm not impressed. |

No one will admit they voted for this jerk but someone voted for him. He is so phony and transparent.

I should be upset that a local politician is steering dollars our way? If money is flowing I sure as hell want my politicians to get some for our area.

Your head is in the sand....where do you think the money is coming from??
It is coming from you, you idiot.....

What is it with these nameless editorials? Back in the day, if someone wanted to call out someone else on something, they'd have the b*a*l*l*s to attach their name to it.

THe people who voted for this Jerk were the ones who wanted to get rid of the BIGGER GoP JerK before him. |

It's about as logical as having a Navy base in land-locked Orlando.

UCF did not have a medical center, either, until an effort was made to secure one for the university. Advancements in educational studies would seem to be a positive contribution to UCF, and perhaps a new center could be expanded to include some of the research from this editorial--solar, wind, etc.
It's worth noting both NOAA and UCF agreed with Congressman Grayson. From Saturday Sentinel: "We're delighted that [Grayson] is recognizing the capabilities of the university in climate-change research," said Greg Schuckman (UCF official). "And to the extent that we can assist him, we would like to do that." Officials from NOAA also lent their support..."Any funding that comes our way, we will put it to good use," said David Miller, a NOAA spokesman. Bringing jobs and advanced research to our community also has my support & vote. |

Gator: I'm sure the ex-Bush voters would prefer we remain a low wage tourist center, hence the histrionics about the hurricane research center.

A hurricane will huff and puff and blow your house down.
study completed- without spending any money. |

NBB,
I agree it certainly seems that way at times. |

Grayson has done some good in congress so far...co-sponsering HR 1207 Audit of the Federal reserve and other legislation. But being bought out for a 50 million dollar hurricane research center...I guess we will see how much Energy goes up if it passes the senate.

I agree but something more usefull then a hurricane research center....

How about securing funds for the five programs that UCF is having to phase out due to lack of money!
How about some backbone and vote "Nay" on a bill that you havn't even read. |

The typical conservative mentality is on display when the Sentinel can support corporate welfare for DeVos and the Magic, but not for scientific endeavor. Way to take us into the 21st century Sentinel!. We all be slaves to the service industry. Yipee!

Grayson did read this bill and it was why he was so on the fence. He had to weigh benefits to constituents, reducing our carbon impact, and balancing that with all the pork on the legislation.
Yes there was more pork put on by Grayson's commitment, but it was an essential element of the bill's premise which wasn't apart of the bill. Kudos to Grayson for understanding the needs of his constituents and for realizing a Hurricane center doesn't have to be on the coast to study and create the modeling needed to better understand these systems. |

It served primarily as a naval aviation training facility. Get it? Logic demands checking the facts before making a conclusion. |

Since when do the cons and repubs care about the poor? You are beginning to sound liberal Fuddley. Are you beginning to use your heart again? |
