I would agree...I used to love Florida...my family has been here for eons but I would love to get out of here. I would disagree on the immigration issue...it's not the illegals that are the pain. It's all the non-english speaking people that show up here then...GO HOME.

It doesn't matter how many people leave Florida, because as soon as the local and state officials see a decline they will just spend more money on advertising to get people to come visit and live in Florida. They did the same thing in Kansas, then when they do finally get you here that's when you find out how much it REALLY costs to live here!!! Also just like Ks. they will give some excuse about how the state gov. is going to have a shortfall of money in the budget so they raise everything from parking tickets to local sales tax. After all that the state will say they won't have a shortfall but won't lower the prices or the taxes back to what they were because the officials see soooo much money coming in!!!! Just like Kansas!!!! The only people that really benefit are the local and state officials, they're paychecks keep rising while the quality of life for others gets worse!!!! It's a just a circle of greed and lying to the citizens,Just like Kansas!!!!

"The future ain't what it use to be" ( Will Rogers ) is so true.
Escalating property taxes and insurance price gouging will make Will Rogers quote hit home in Florida.
Has anyone noticed lately how the golden goose is looking a bit tarnished ?

Wish I had been part of the pole. Born here and raised here I too am looking at leaving. Two of three sisters have done so already and are very happy they did. Now if we could just get ride of everyone who came here after Disney ruined the place.....one can only dream.

All of the reasons people are given for the decline in the quality of life here in Florida are the resaons why we have recently acquired a second home in the mountains of North Carolina for our eventual move there... full time.

Well, I don't blame Disney. I grew up near it, in Vineland, and it wasn't intrusive.

No, the fault lies in the local government folks who WILL NOT enact any sort of legislation that discourages people from coming here to stay. There's no such thing as growth management.

The Biggest Problem, in my oopsinion, is that all of these people who came here, from wherever, have brought all of their city mentalities with them, instead of checking them at the door, and have proceeded to make this place into a mirror of where they came from. You see people driving down the road, tossing their garbage out onto the street, they don't care, that's what people do WHERE THEY COME FROM.

Please, people, go away, I want my home back.

Osceola County is a great example. Especially the schools. Some of the schools have been around for decades and should have such a foundation of pride and tradition and a great establishment that gains support from the community. The schools have been overcrowded and teachers overwhelmed to the point that they cannot focus on quality but focus on getting kids to just pass the FCAT and making passing grades to get them through the system and not be responsible for their classroom bringing down the schools overall score. Teachers are underpaid and overwhelemd. The good quality teachers don't want to come here because they know Florida isn't so great. Look at St. Cloud and how much it has changed in the past few years. Thank goodness that the growth is slowing down. It feels better to rant a little.

If in the next five years, half of the people leave to another state, then we can get back the Florida we had twenty years ago; less traffic, less crime and stop the polution. I'm for it!
I encourage as many of you that wish to leave to go, and enjoy North Carolina or New York or wherever.

Mother always used to say "Shut the door, you're letting the flys into the house", and sure enough we'd be soon standing around with fly swatters whacking the accumulated "visitors" off the ceiling where they'd accumulate. I think this is long overdue in this state. It is time to shut the door and rid outselves of the swarms that have accumulated here and get over this stupid fantasy of "Multiculturalism" being such a glorious thing we are being brainwashed with by the liberals. Florida is sinking under the weight of so many deadbeats who are turning to crime and breeding like rabbits. Watch for this post to disappear shortly.
You're right. "Multiculturalism" should mean all, not just those who speak another language. Especially those who continue to speak another language after obtaining a drivers license. Driving in Florida is still a privilege, not a right. There should be a requirement for those applying for one to speak English. There's also confusion in certain cultures as to what a "Common Wealth" means in America. It doesn't mean stealing the property of someone else.

I moved here 7 years ago and have seen a steady decline in just that time. I think that "good" people moving out of Florida isn't the solution. Those of you that made comments like "I encourage as many of you that wish to leave to go..." is ridiculous. You should encourage the illegal immigrants and lowlifes to "go". It's the "decent" people that are leaving.

Florida is NOT what it used to be (I don't blame it on Disney), that's ridiculous also. But I do blame it on the govt AND the lowlife criminals for making FL so undesirable. We are also thinking about moving.

I have certainly noticed along with many other Floridians that our state and local governments do not care to govern for those that call Florida home. It is a sad day when you come to realize that those that we elect to protect and serve us that call Florida home, are only serving to profit and pocket what ever they can for themselves. Until we have elected officials that truly want to do what is best for this state we will continue this decline. Wake up Florida and become an educated voter.

Rapid growth with a low wage tourism industry led to rapid decay and high crime rates. The officials are trying to remedy that with high tech and medical schools and this will work but it may be too late. We should have had this 20 years ago. We should have had a train 30 years ago. We should have looked for additional sources of income for the community. Now we are run by Amway and you know what that means-a few rich people and a bunch of poor ones. The only difference is that Amway polices their members and keeps them in lines with excessive workshops and brainwashing. Not so for the community at large. Ok, I am just visiting Florida and I live in Maine and I will say that I like everything better in Maine but the winter storms. Before you all get your thongs in a bind, yes I will be going back next month.

I would have to agree with the research. The illegal immigrant problem here in Florida, along with the rising taxes are pushing people out. Florida has another problem that is also not being addressed. The lack of cultural unity and respect. Believe it or not, Florida is actually part of the USA, not Puerto Rico or Hati or India. Let's address those problems as well and I believe you'll be on the right path.
