Wal-Mart to downsize planned store in Orlando-area neighborhood
Residents living in east Orange County will soon have a smaller Wal-Mart in the neighborhood, despite years of opposition to the retail giant's presence.

Wal-Mart goes where the traffic is. That's why there is none in Yeehaw Junction in Osceola county..yet.

Mildred Ferenandez is awful. She certainly won't get my vote. For a Democrat she seems to be in the pocket of developers. I guess that transcends party lines.
What kind of logic is it putting any Wal*Mart right next to 1/2 million dollar homes. That will just lower the property values in an area that has 2 Wal*Mart neighborhood markets within a 5 mile radius. |

We wanted an up-scale market as a concession and got a poorly run, poorly maintained and low-income venue that has already brought property values down. Thanks Mildred. I am sure you will not shop there - nor will I unless I am on welfare like most of the customers.

Yes- greed does transcend party lines, and I don't think there is one local politician in this town who is not in the pocket of developers. It's been proven time and time again that developers run this town and hold sway, with our local politicians giving in to their every desire. WalMarts are popping up everywhere and anywhere like the peskiest of garden weeds- ugly, annoying and amazingly resilient. As far as Walmart bringing down property values- that is of no concern to developers and apparently is of no concern to our local politicians. I realized long ago that our local government is not concerned about what overdeveloping does to property values, nor are they concerned about the negative impact of overdevelopment- and in this case another much unneeded Walmart- on the quality of life for the people who live here. |

Now what makes you think everyone who shops Walmart is on welfare? What a stupid remark that is. I'm not on welfare, I am a middle class citizen who shops at Walmart because it is convenient for me to do so. |

If the people who live there REALLY don't want Wal-Mart in their neighbrhood, the best way to show it is to NOT shop there once they open.
Of course, that will not happen... the place will be jam packed 24/7 like every other damn Wal-Mart. People complain and complain, but then they go spend their money there once it's open. Believe me, Wal-Mart knows this... and subscribes to the old theory "You'll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public" |

As cited by one of the residents in the area, there is already plenty of supermarkets and convenience stores already there, and they already have heavy traffic problems. As far as Walmart's plans to make the store visually appealing, I think that's a real joke. The Walmart that was recently built on Turkey Lake Road- with another Walmart just a few miles away on John Young Pkway and Sand Lake Road- was advertised as being like "stepping into Italy". Apparently, none of the Walmart people have ever been to Italy! I think the question is simply this: When is enough enough and when does enough become too much? |

In our area, it's full of Haitians, Mexicans, Dominicans, etc. Good luck finding a clerk who speaks English. I don't go there anymore. Target is much better. |

While I agree with your last statement, I know many who will not shop at Walmart no matter what- and that includes me. Aside from Walmarts being eyesores and blights, their stores are poorly designed, noisy and dirty. In addition, the quality of most of their merchandise leaves much to be desired. In a town that is absolutely glutted with shopping choices, and with many alternatives to Walmart that also offer great prices and sales, I see no need or reason to shop at Walmart. And I know I am not alone in thinking this way. |

Did you contest your assessment with the tax appraiser with factual data that Wal Mart had already dropped the value of your property ? Where is your data that most of the customers are on welfare ? |

It's Wal-Mart and they bent over backwards for the people that live nearby.....They have the right to open anywhere they want just like you can live where you want. this is the USA. If you want to control all of the property around you then buy it. If not then someone else will.

People need to relax. This is a GROCERY STORE!! And it's completely different from a regular wal-Mart. If it were a Publix going in would everyone be wigging out??
Personally I think the stores are nice, clean and much better than a supercenter. I avoid wal-mart's traditional stores at all costs, but this is a great supermarket. It's not going to bring in any more traffic than a Publix or Albertson's. Personally I'd rather see them limit the amount of banks that are popping up everywhere. Do I really need 6 banks within a 1.5 mile radius?? |

They are designing this store to blend with the community, and while I completely respect your opinion, groceries are groceries. They have the same items (except Generic) that Publix, Albertson's and Winn-Dixie has. So quality of their merchandise for this particular location isn't a big issue. |

What a bunch of snobs in this community. How come they have no problem living next to the Orange County Utilities building (which this wal-mart will be right across from)? That brings utility trucks in and out all the time. Just because it has the name 'Wal-Mart' attached to it these people who overpaid for their homes are up in arms.
I live near an Albertson's and i just don't shop there. I deal. |

Most developers don't run jack actually its the honest developers that get the shaft, we pay out the nose for government approvals. Developers have no idea where some of their city or county administration fees even go. Developers have no say so on how their money is spent thats up to the cities and counties "Developer pays the bills its up to the cities and counties to turn on the power". The people who stand to lose the most in a struggling economy is the developer the city and counties get their money up front developers have to prey that they even get any back developers are the risk takers! |
