why was this child on an ATV in the first place and without a helmet? Children are not allowed to drive cars at that age, so what makes the parents think it is okay for them to drive an ATV which has one of the highest fatality rates of underage drivers? Why didn't the child have safety gear on? This is totally the parents fault for this tragic accident! ATVs are dngerous motor vechicles, unstable at high speeds and should never be driven by child alone, especially without safety equipment!

I'd like to know what the parents were doing while their 9 year old son was riding helmetless on an ATV.

On the contrary. Do you have any idea just how expensive home repairs are nowadays? An ATV with an additional 90 lb. load can do quite extensive damage. Refrain from name calling son.

Shouldn't we all stop trying to blame everyone else or the parents are start praying for the child laying in the hospital? Houses can be repaired (that's why we have insurance!) but our children can not. You know I have been a parent for a long time now as yes as parents we all make mistakes. To be honest with you, I haven't met one perfect person. That's why we are not GOD!

No suprise here. Sad but not suprised. These kids rip around on those things and their Redneck parents let them. I hope the parents end up in jail for letting this crap continue to happen, and maybe the sheriffs office will start taking it seriously too

I am the mother of this child. For your information, he was spending the night at a friend's house when this happened. So, before you are quick to judge, make sure you have all of the fact. Your sympahty for a 9 year old boy simply amazes me. My prayer is that you NEVER have to go through the same thing!
