We'll never clean up the Lake Eola area with people like him and groups like the ACLU fighting us. Let the bums live and eat in their backyards and see how they like it.

Even the large homeless food shelter downtown is for the ordinance. they are ready and equipped to handle the homeless and feed them. This idiot and his group think they have a better idea and break the law to prove it. He isn't helping the homeless, only tryin to serve his cause. As for the ACLU, they go against pretty much everything that makes sense.

People like him always think they are smarter than those who actually have to deal with the homeless. I agree with "Sick of it", take the bums home and shelter them and see what pains in the ass they are. Many choose to be homeless. They don't want to work because they are better off NOT paying for insurance, NOT paying taxes, NOT paying for shelter or medical care. By being indigent it's all FREE.

Let the ACLU pick up the cost of these bums and removed the burden from the taxpayer!

You can bet ole' Georgie Porgie Crossley will be at that press conference so he can get his ugly mug in the news. It has absolutely nothing to do with "Rights" and everything to do with breaking the law! If anyone else deliberately breaks the law they can expect to pay the consequences! This idiot shouldn't be any different!

I hope they lock this guy up for good. I can't believe he thought he could get away with feeding hungry people.

Many of the people who you refer to as "bums" are veterans (many from recent wars) and children (who did not create their circumstance). Many of the FREE services you refer to are not FREE. A majority of the sheltered and non-sheltered homeless work. They just cannot afford to live (rent, health insurance, transportation, etc.) We need laws and services that make sense. Does it make sense that if you make over $700.00 a month you can't qualify for most services offered by the State? Does it make sense that a person making a little over $1,000.00 a month pays approximately $700.00 a month into the state heath insurance with only $300.00 left to live on? Does it makes sense that you can work a full-time job and not make enough to pay $900+ per month in rent?

This is not a joke. I've seen feats of heroism (especially by women) at these shelters that I know I could not pull off on their income without additional help. I've seen one woman who is up by 3 a.m. to walk to the bus station to get to a job at a theme park. Her children included one physically disabed daughter, but she never missed a beat. She was in a shelter because her husband (ex-military) wanted her dead and attempted to kill her several times. It took two years in a shelter to get back on track, but she did it.

Stop referring to the homeless as BUMS. There are "bums" in politics, in pulpits, in local government, in education, in corporate america, in Hollywood, etc.

And another thing, "indigent" does not mean services are free. Most who are declared indigent simply get to pay their court costs on a payment schedule. That is no different that everyday folks who pay monies owed through collection court.

Everyone needs to get EDUCATED before passing judgment on a group of people.

Rather than fighting why don't you come up with a solution that both sides can live with. You know, work together on a compromise.

why dont we compromise by having the bums get jobs to support themselves just like everyone else does? why should anyone feel sorry for people who dont have the discipline, self-respect, or ambition to get off their butts (which they just sit on all day, begging for money) and get a job? doesn't this gov already have a welfare system? why should we subcategorize the people that take our tax money?

Thanks for being the voice of reason. I can't hardly read the comments posted on these forums anymore becaue they're packed with uncompassionate, self-centered comments likes the ones before yours.

I can't believe this is what the world has come to--you get locked up for trying to feed hungry people n just so tourists won't be offended. It's the residents that should be offended. This is the second dumbest city ordinance I know of. The first is the onr that prohibits lying down by Lake Eola. So if you're homeless you should be also hungry and without a nap? Shameful!

Florida's welfare system? I did not know it existed anymore with all the hungry and sick children of WORKING HOMELESS parents I see. Actually, I thought the welfare system had shifted to Iraq. I must be mistaken.

Again, this has nothing to do with feeding the homeless. I ask, if while treating one perceived social injustice you create another social injustice...what's the point? When they feed large groups in the park, those groups trash the park and interfere with the local business commerce. Why would you fix one problem only to create a new problem?

i know people who had to sit on years-long waitlists just to come to this country with absolutely nothing that are now business owners who can afford to pay their bills, have nice homes, and are able to support large families very comfortably.
excuse me for not having any compassion for those who grow up in this country with millions of opportunities but dont take them.
you're right. lets just take all of our hard earned money and give it to lazy people so they dont ever have to do anything. the people who irresponsibly bring children into the world knowing that they will be hungry and sick.
...if you can't afford to take care of yourself, dont have kids!
i hate the president and his policies as much as the next person, but please dont use the war as an excuse for poor people.

Representatives from the ACLU. I'm sure that means CONVICTED FELON George Crossley should be there. CONVICTED FELON Crossley knows the justice system well, after all he was a guest for several years.

You don't see all these do-gooders inviting all these "homeless" folks to camp out in their back yards and eat. Free bus ride out to the big woods to a nice new camp (about 100 miles from here) with no dope and no liquor stores is just what they need. Ahhhhhh!! Fresh Air.

Are these blocking doorways? I read in the posts and the article they were in the parks. If they aren't blocking doorways, how are they ruining the business? If they are ruining businesses, it's by being just there, not by eating. Most homeless people gather in parks anyway.

Obviously what this gentleman is feeding them must taste a lot better than what is in the shelter. They are probably not being told what to do or what they should be doing in order to be fed. If you what to control the person doing the feeding, tell him he must do it between certain hours.(i.e. 11 - 1, 5 - 7). That should take care of the problem. The times are examples only.

If you were a tourist, would you want to go to a park filled with homeless people or a park where you aren't going to get hassled for change?
In Orlando, a large part of our economy is dependant on tourists who are attracted by things like clean downtown parks. If they don't come, the businesses lose money. Physically blocking a doorway isn't the only way that they adversely effect businesses.

Would you mind if a homeless person decided to live on your frontyard?...They would probably ruin your curb appeal.
